I once missed a flight in the UK to Ireland because of a bomb scare at a train station which held up the train to the airport. A lot of others did too, so alternative flights were full. Rather than pitch a fit, like you I was calm about it which shocked the staff (as there had been several meltdowns ahead of me), but I figured there was nothing I or they could do so no point in screaming at them. But because of being chill (and I was one person) the airline was like "come back here in 20 minutes and see if someone hasn't shown up for the next flight". Well I did, and with a wink from the airline I had been upgraded and given priority boarding on the next flight too. It pays to be nice!

You can't just say "You're being detained while we investigate, because someone has been assaulted" as that is still unlawful detainment. He could have told them he needed to be somewhere in which case they can ask for contact details in the event they need to talk to him. And I don’t believe the police actually mentioned the word detain they asked him to remain, he was the one that kept saying are you detaining me and they were very careful to avoid saying that, they merely reiterated why they wished him to remain in situ, although I do believe it has been said that he was in fact arrested in the end. Not surprisingly, his attitude was really rather suspicious, when in fact he was simply being a clever clogs, not a good look. You American by any chance? As a British police officer myself he would most definitely NOT be in the right. Asking someone to remain whilst a crime is investigated is the same as "detaining" someone, provided it is made clear they cannot leave (which it was on multiple occasions). Him trying to leave then allows them to use reasonable force to stop him from doing so. If they have the suspicion that he is involved and there is a necessity to do so, if he tries to leave they can just immediately arrest him. If it transpires 10 minutes later he wasn't involved or was just a witness he can be de-arrested on the spot. Americans also have a habit of confusing "Charges" with "Offences".... you don't get "Charged" at the roadside for an offence, you might be suspected of an offence. Once all evidence is collated if there is sufficient evidence AND they decide it is in the public interest to prosecute you for that offence THEN you may be "Charged" with that offence, which would mean going before a court. @@Unclep318

I don't know if this will improve your mood but a few days ago I was on a bus here in Sussex, UK and there were a few americans on the seats behind me. There was a California state flag patch on one of their bags. They were speaking in that uniquely loud accent but were polite. When they got off the bus they thanked the driver in a way that, for a moment, made me think they were canadian.

Not this video in particular, but watching Americans "get" British comedy and culture in reaction videos etc, is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Your channel is less of a guilty pleasure now, but I more enjoy the fact that I think that you and yours are just genuinely nice people and I enjoy watching you, for you. When you eventually come here to visit and I see you in a pub in Bristol, I'll buy you a pint.

Absolutely correct that you travel as a representative of your country, and you're always under the laws of the country you happen to be in. There are certain circumstances where you are under certain laws of both the country your in *and the country you come from, but it's always the stricter of the two that applies in those circumstances.

There are times in my own country when I hang my head in shame and shock at how some idiots react here too! 😂.... Controversially, I know peoples experiences with the cops will vary, but I have been very lucky when dealing say, with a "mental health" crisis at home before medics intervened & we got the help we needed, always frontline was a UK cop playing the role of a Social Worker, (not their job) and we got steered towards help & support. (Actually, within 12 hours of the police attendance we had support in place). I know that people have different experiences, but they do actually care, as well. We are all people, at the end of the day.

I first visted the States back in 1988 and like most Brits it was the State of Florida where we went for our first visit to WDW. We hired a car, and on the way back to our hotel one night we got lost and found ourselves in a residental area so we pulled up to consult our map (no sat nav back then) We'd been there a few minutes when all of a sudden a police crusier pulled up right behind us and using his PA system told us to "Move on!" Needless to say , we didn't hesitate and complied immediately, we were only in our twenties, over 4000 miles from home in a foreign land where the police (and some of the public) carry guns! It never occured to me for one minute to exit my vehicle and remonstrate with the officer as to his actions! 🤣🤣 Fortunately we found our way back onto I-4 and got back to the hotel safely. Many many more trips to the States have followed since then and a great time has been had on all....By and large I love the American people, I find them warm and genuine and slightly comical sometimes, but in a good way!

I'm sure there are many problems with the UK police force but every interaction I've had with them has been wonderful. They're super reasonable, respectful and warm and it really feels like they're looking out for your best interests! I can't imagine behaving like this to them. They don't deserve that. As the narrator said, these guys have a bad case of the Dunning Kruger effect - they know a couple of snippets about law and assume they know everything! As for American tourists in general, they tend to be super polite and very sweet! You should find some videos of Brits acting up in Spain - so much grade-A muppetry 😂 Lo siento mis amigos Espanoles 😅 xx

I think you're largely correct in what you've said. One thing that annoyed me is when you called him a ferret. Ferrets are smart and one of my ferrets was smarter than any dog I've met. And I was a vet nurse. Second, yes Americans are very friendly over here and it does take us aback because we're quite reserved BUT... I've been to America. We think it's false. It's not. I have never, ever met nicer people. I genuinely mean that. I still fall victim to the stereotypes of Americans knowing nothing about the rest of the world because in my experience, that is absolutely true. My American wife had always assumed Scotland was a part of England. Just one of a million examples. One thing I will not stand by and hear people say is that you're rude or obnoxious. I didn't experience it ONCE and I am a people person, I love meeting people and talking and I'm good at it. The nicest people on the planet are America. But the country itself is broken (sorry, had to haha).

It’s nice to see an American get annoyed, not just us lol. I think we should make you an honorary British person. When we say sometimes Americans are over nice it’s because they get smarmy. You should know by now that you can have a bit of banter and still be nice. You can drink in the street I think but not if you’re really drunk. It probably needs to be outside a pub or something. If you acted like that, as you said at the end, they’d probably just thump you straight off lol

Working Airport Security I relieved an American Sheriff of his pocket knife. He flashed his warrant card and said we're on the same side to which I replied you have no juristriction here, sorry. He complied. Its against the law in the UK to film or take an image of a Police Officer and to refuse to give your name when asked is an arrestable offence. Also as he is filming on his phone, if arrested the videoing would be used as evidence against him, so he's doing himself any favours. And yes you're right in everything you've said.

As a serving UK officer in the same force myself... the "backup" i.e the male officer that appears is a Sergeant (hence the three chevrons on the epaulettes) - essentially what an American officer might call "a supervisor". One rank above themselves. Also, it may surprise you to know that we receive a lot of abuse but the mindset of "beating" someone for being abusive to you doesn't work - in the UK we are very accountable for our actions especially police officers. A British police officer would rather stand there and be abused for half an hour than react badly to your words, end up throwing you on the floor which then calls into question their use of force whereby they are then subject to public complaint, media scrutiny, disciplinary proceedings AND possibly the officer themselves ending up with a criminal conviction for assault. It's far less stress, hassle and aggravation to just stand there and ignore the abuse (because we're so used to it) than it is to react to it with violence and then try to justify that violence later on. Whilst I don't like the behaviour it doesn't justify police beating up persons who are abusive or rude to them.
