I could never understand why Americans acted like they won WW2 singlehandedly - especially in films - until I holidayed there during the Gulf War (remember 'Stormin Norman'!). CNN was showing 24 hours coverage about the war and it only ever showed GIs. Absolutely no mention of the British Forces fighting alongside them at all. So with many Americans never holidaying outside their own country and the 'America is best' mantra taught in schools etc I finally understood WHY many (if not most) people in the USA think they alone are the world's saviours. Thank God for the Internet (invented by a Brit) and KZbin for helping to set the record straight. One positivity is hopefully realising that the USA has a third world approach to healthcare, employment and work/life balance, tipping as a wage supplement, and money deciding who is the best person to be President.

Many Brits dont, and never have felt like a part of Europe like the mainland Europeans do. Like the English feel like a part of great Britain as opposed to being a part of Europe. People still say "we are going on holiday to Europe this summer!" As if we are not a part of it.

I feel as if America is a young country and it hasn’t grown up yet. European counties have been here hundreds of years and have therefore matured more and are more sophisticated socially. When you see news from America it feels like the Wild West with technology, everyone’s grabbing for the money whereas Europe has moved on and thinks more about its citizens…

I was watching 90-Day Fiancé and the parents of the American said to his future wife; a Ukrainian, ‘We just want to make sure you’re here for the right reasons because we know all Ukrainian women just want to come to the US’. Most Europeans don't hate Americans. But many Americans still live on illusions and have a very outdated idea of European countries, if any idea at all. This in turn irritates or amuses us in Europe.

I was in London for a day out when the awful horrifying news broke about 9/11 it was surreal as the reports started coming in police turned out in force. when something big happens we head for Buckingham Palace. I have never seen any other flag fly above the palace but there been hoisted was the American flag then the guards came out and played The Star Spangled Banner all the Americans that were there were hugged and consoled by us distraught. We are ridiculed because of our royals but you are not taught why the British royal family differs from other countries and the importance to us as a nation they are. When Bush JR took office he said the rest of the world are jealous of your freedoms so what freedoms do you have that the rest of the world doesn't ? We are allowed guns but they are highly regulated. I don't feel unsafe going out at night. Our police are not armed yet we do have armed response units. We have Ghetto's and poverty. The way that you allow your own people to burn the flag is disgusting. I could right an entire novel on this subject my country is not perfect but I would not want to live any where else.

He was right on the money with the internet influence. For decades, we thought USA was really smart, and cool. Then the internet, and tik tok allowed us to see past the glossy cover. USA has lost a massive amount of Global respect. The fact that many people really do think that EVERY significant thing was discovered, and invented by america, leaves a bitter taste to many of us.

One of the worst insults you can give a Canadian is to mistake them for an American. That pretty much sums it up. My feelings about Americans has nothing to do with the internet and everything to do with American tourists in my area of Canada. In the vast majority of my interactions with American visitors, including my own American relatives, I have found them to be arrogant, rude, loud, and demanding. And extremely lacking in knowledge about anything outside of the USA. Many times not even that knowledgable about their own country. Sad but true.

I've seen this original video before and I think it's reflecting reality very nicely. I do believe there is much more to the topic, inside and outside of Europe as well. The interventions the US of A has performed in so many different countries, with often disastrous results, have left their marks. Looking in from an outside point of view, it looks like the States are sliding backwards ever since the period that Reagan held the presidency. I wouldn't even consider the US of A a democracy anymore. After WWII the US of A had a clear head start on a large part of the rest of the world, don't know how to describe the current situation.

The people of the US of A are the best chance at changing the current policy, so you could even say that the people of the US of A are our hope on improvement on this subject. Other countries, including my own, have their own problems as well. The problems with and in the States just seem to be more extreme.

In fact, one or more European countries have participated in most of the attacks the US has made on third countries. As an example, my country, Norway was heavily involved in the bombing of Libya. Nevertheless, most Norwegians are arrogant about the topic, and scold other countries for doing exactly the same thing elsewhere. I have rarely seen anything as disgusting as the Norwegian prime minister who apologized to Libya after the dam that burst recently, after he as Norwegian foreign minister was involved in destroying Libyan infrastructure. Europeans need to stop thinking that we are somehow better than Americans. We are just as bad. Or perhaps we should realize that it is not Americans who do these things - but the authorities in the country. Europeans love to hate Trump, but he was the president for many decades who has been involved in the fewest power attacks on other countries. Because he was rude on Twitter, we don't like him, but we love Obama, who bombed countless countries? Come on. Wake up, folks.

Personally I hate the country (US) due to the fact of: Healthcare being privatised and usually no help for the people who desperately need it Food more often than not contains chemicals and alterations albeit it lasts longer but the chemicals used that are in the food are banned in the EU and most other countries This one angers me the most due to being the child of a single mother, payed maternity leave not being a thing. It’s so incredibly easy to implement and would better the lives of a lot of people. It may have to do with the fact that in the UK you often refer to Europe when you mean continental Europe. Like when English people say “I’m going to Europe this summer”, as if to say that England isn’t part of Europe.

America has also risen to be one of the most violent places to live if you live in a city. Thats my view. However, every American I have met in the UK are so lovely and down to earth. They are the most sinsere, honest working class people I have ever met. These are the true ideal members of the USA.

Thanks mate! Yep, some of my ancestors were English. My first ancestors in America came over to populate the Carolinas. Then when Florida became English territory, King George ordered them (and many others) to move to Florida. My family has since mixed all up with others of European and Native American ancestry. The first sentence is something I've said for years, a shiny third world country, so I'll elaborate in my opinion on what she said. Let's take an established 3rd world country, Africa, it has the drug and gang problems commonly associated with a 3rd world country, the poor healthcare systems and lack of good education, you cant/shouldn't drink the tapwater and instead resort to drinking filtered bottled water, the police are corrupt and violent, civilians carry guns in public, there are of course rich white areas in the south, but the distribution of wealth leaves the majority well below the "bread line" and causes high homeless rates. Now, the words Africa and America are completely interchangeable here, and unfortunately, the deeper you look, the more similarities you see, the difference being, attitude, Americans tell Americans that America is the best country in the world, you compartmentalise your life from the poor areas around you, ignoring the sleeping bags in the streets because everyone is so focused on their own american dream

A lot of what this guys says during his monologue in the middle of video is very accurate. Your news for example, does nothing, and I mean nothing except spread mis-truthes. The ebola outbreak that occurred a while back was a two minute news item here in the UK, however, your news blew it out of proportion - it was the beginning of the end! Everyone was going to contract. Like covid, you had to avoid everyone and everything.... Attitudes toward America have been twisted and shaped by your politicians (one ex-president in particular)..... you know who I mean. He did nothing (imho) for world relations despite his bragging that he did otherwise. I understand the Americans are required to swear the Pledge of Allegiance in school. This has the effect of building patriotism in almost everyone, but to some, that patriotism is extreme, and makes them feel superior to all other countries. I think this is what us Europeans see in Americans- a sense of undeserved superiority. Only a few other countries have this tradition, but I'm pretty sure none in Europe do.

The problem with his reasoning is that America was not the only place to gain more access to the internet from the 90s. We all did. But the attitudes and behaviours that have been amplified by the internet do not extend to all nations to the same degree, if at all. The internet is only the vessel, it’s not the cause. And it does empower Americans to see beyond their borders but the majority choose not to.

my position, i live in the UK. as i said in my previous comment, i have worked 40 years i am also an ex veteran My works part time, I am long term sick, not been able to work for 2 years, i am 3 months from being well enough to get back to work. My wife works 20 hours a week earns £1000 a month, the law has mandated, that there is a minimum amount you need to live on per month and you cannot fall below that line, to to help with rent and food we get an additional £700 a month to bring us to the minimum to pay rent and food, gas electric, making us a total of £1700 per month. my rent is £390 a month for a 3 bedroom house, which is included in the money the government helps me with but we also get free medication, i am on 5 types on medication and my wife is on 6 types of medication free eye tests free eye glasses to a value of £69.00 free dental free local tax reduction free travel to hospital free doctors visits free hospital

Your rent, for a 3 bedroom house, is £390 per MONTH!? Sorry, but I find that extremely hard to believe. Surely you mean that the government subsidises you that amount per month to top up what you actually need to cover your rent, right? @@sunnyjim1355 i give you my word as man, i live in the north east durham in old miners village, no its private lanlord, i pay 390 a month, it was what they call a 2 up to down, these were built for the miners, people bought them when at the mines, when the mines closed, these houses, became worthless, hence they rented them out, they are area, where the wrong sorts rented, destroyed the area through benefits, drugs, there is one estate few miles away, go so bad they closed the house down, drug riddled, they then came up with plan to sort estate out, and tried to sell the houses for £1.00, they could not sell them

@@sunnyjim1355 rents in the north are also low, for two reason's. places are not worth big money, the governemnet has also put a cap on benefit they will pay for property, which is 389.00 per month, if they go higher, people cant affrd on benefits, also, with in the social housing, there is also penalties if your on benefit, lets say a couple in council house, 3 bedrooms, so they have 2 bedrooms not being used, they will get less benefit call bedroom tax, because they have 2 bedrooms not being used, the idea is to get them to move to a 1 bedroom, and free up a house for a family, its complicated i know, one thing is im honest on this channel, i pay 390, a month, i have liveing room, large kitchen, large bathroom, 2 bedrooms, with the 3rd bedroom being attaick conversion, i was paying 400 a month for 2 bedroom with the same landlord, 4 doors up, my wife sone lived here went to manchester, i agreed to decorate, for free, part way through decorating i decided i want to live in this one, big patio, garden and shed, i just decorated, downfall is we only have bath not a shower, prevoisus property was bit more modern with wet room, arga stove and better layout, but no garden, had to sit on step for bbq, now i have patio, hot tub, bbq, and newly decorated by me,

Irishman here. I complain about Americans quite a bit, BUT usually to my American friend who totally dislikes those same types just as much as me, if not more. The key thing to take away from it is that America is such a mixed bag. It's a nation of extremes and I think this is why it gets such a bad rap. There is a large element of unapologetically stupid people who are dragging the others through the mud. We definitely shouldn't label or treat you all as if you're the same but these people are so numerous and they aren't at all subtle about how they carry on. When I (British) lived in the uk, I avoided McD because it was full of open mouthed teenagers desperate to be Yanks...when I moved to France there was a lot of resistance by local government to stop McD opening branches in towns, but if you went to the retail parks you would find McD full of men in suits having meetings. Kids would be there in the evening and weekends, but, during the day, pretty much all business types drinking coffee and using free wifi. The rebrand probably helped moving away from the fucking scary clown🤡

Whole we always had news from America particularly regarding politics. When Trump was president it reached saturation levels. Most days it was sort of, whats he done today😱 Even today with all the trials and court cases we hear more about Trump and the Replicans than we do of Biden. We are show two views of Americans:- Rich, neurotics, driving large cars childern getting there teath fixed, obsessed with appearnce, who have been seeing a theopist for 20 years. Poor, fat, McDonalds eating, carring many guns in their pick up trucks, church goers who prefer to shoot anyone they don't know who always wear an old tee-shirt and baseball cap.

It’s all down to ignorance; whether from the Americans, or otherwise. We all have a view on how each other are and many times, this is inaccurate or outdated. Personally, I would rather we all judged each other (because we are human and will judge), based on the individual and not the race, gender, nationality or ethnicity etc. I’m not going to say I don’t have any preconceived ideas about Americans but I’d like to think that I’m basing this on what I see on TV as never actually visited, and as such, it wouldn’t be a true reflection of ALL Americans.

I think most level headed people understand that America is so large that theres many cultures from all different walks of life. The dumb narrative is lazy. America is one of the most innovative countries in the world. That being said it also has a lot of issues for such a powerful country. Love visiting USA, have been many times and majority of individuals are really great but due to sheer size of population and geography they do have a greater number of issues to contend with and some of these can , quite rightly, cause concern for other countries. I hope the orange one finally gets what he deserves and its not a 2nd term.

To be political , Trump lost America a lot of prestige and the fact that he could be president again is horrific to the rest of the world. Another 4 years of Trump and all soft power of America will be gone and we will never trust you again. To elect an ignorant danger to the world once was a mistake to do it twice would be unforgivable. Especially when the world is right on the edge of so many conflicts exploding. The fact that Americans don’t know this is truly awful.

Have to admit, the American Political System is not a good advertisement for the USA, the vitriol, combative stances, the bending of institutions by political pressure, including Courts, the Mass Shootings, and the continuous non-stop political cycle, has been very wearing. The UK is a country where political campaigning is limited to 6 weeks before Polling Day, and on Polling Day it is Prohibited by Law, you're not even allowed to canvass as a political party within 150 yards of a Polling Station. In my County, Shropshire, Local Council Elections are every four years (some Counties/Cities vote on a limited number of the seats every year), here every four years all the Council Seats are voted upon, and then there's nothing for another four years. In the UK a General Election for Westminster is every five years, again a 6 week campaigning period is allowed before Polling Day, and the same ban on campaigning and even being within 150 yards to canvass are in place. The only situations for a By-Election would be the death, resignation, or conviction of a sitting Local Councillor or Westminster Member of Parliament again a 6 week campaign, nothing Polling Day, no canvassing of votes within 150 yards of Polling. Basically the continuous focus and campaigning, and engineered division in US Politics is absolutely hated here by the the UK General Public, we think you're mad to put up with it, mad to get involved, and we also think your gun laws, health service, and welfare system is completely nuts. A 'Third World Country with lots of money' is absolutely right, can't fault that description. As a people, as long as the conversation is not politics, guns, healthcare, or welfare, you're great... you just have to take all that sh!t with a pinch of salt, and have proper paid holidays, so you work to live, NOT live to work. All that time you invest in your job or the company you work for, if you die tomorrow, you'll be replaced in a week, and you'll be forgotten in two, so to the US Management of EVERY company, and your political leaders, I say this; 'fcuk you and the horse you rode in on'. Can't say it plainer than that, go to the pub, if you have one, have a proper social life, because you're here a finite number of days, and tomorrow might be your last.

There are two important considerations to remember - 1) most of those interviewees have never been to the US. 2) Europeans may feel slightly more distant from American culture, compared say to the British, simply on the strength of language. They're not able to listen to English language programmes unless they have subtitles, and in the Latin world they have to be fully dubbed. So more easy therefore to have their own programmes which have little or no attention to anything outside their own sphere of national interest.

Most people in europe speak better english than the english, the eu still does all it biz in english, skids in german schools do 5 or 6 subjects in english, evey on here speaks english, god try and speak german in berlin and they still stop you and switch to english.

The Americans I have met have all been lovely normal, respectful and interesting people. But as a society and a government it seems very insular, arrogant, selfish and it feels like there is a lot of hypocrisy and disconnect between what is said and what is done. No society is perfect but it feels like imperfections are recognised and worked on elsewhere whereas American society prefers to continue in denial instead. Similar to an annoying younger sibling who always wants to be allowed to win whether they really were the best in a game or not.

Don't take any notice. Lots of Europeans complain about the British, they complain about the French (because they don't like speaking French), some nations complain about the Germans as being arrogant, the Danes complain about the toffee-nosed Swedes, the Turks hate the Greeks, and vice-versa, and the list goes on. The US has such a great effect upon the world many people are going to hate or love Americans. Many are very cool many are shamefully ignorant a fair few are just so knowledgeable it hurts. I've had great & funny American friends. I've been very influenced by the literature & when a kid firing the Steam Engines across England I had a crush on Jack London. My favourite country of all is Greece in 1974 to84 when I lived there with a lot of Greeks who'd lived in the US coming back to Greece in retirement. I hated the US for what they did to Vietnam & now Iraq & Afghanistan. But without the Yanks we'd now be living under Hitler's grand children. So, every man and woman finds his own poison or her own nectar.
