Allemansrätten DOES include private property, that's the point. You are just not allowed into someone's house yard/garden. And it is illegal to claim a beach/shoreline.

”Allemansrätten” includes private land. You’re allowed to walk, hike, bike, ride and camp almost anywhere in nature throughout the country, as long as you act respectfully and don’t destroy anything and clean up after yourself. People’s gardens are off limit though 😉.

Yup. The general rule is not to be (easily) seen from people's homes (generally agreed to be about 200 metres), to leave no trace and to only camp in the same spot for one night before moving on. I've been told that some American states have similar rules, though easily circumvented by the property owner exercising a gun or worse.

They are WRONG about the "Allemansrätten" (Right of Public Access). You HAVE access to be on private land! This is how it works; "'the public has access to private land where no damage is likely to result and prohibition would be unreasonable"'. You can camp anywhere you want....in Sweden for one or two nights. (Not caravans dough....that's not real camping anyway) ;-) You can pick berries in the woods, climbing or hiking, fishing is free with rods along the coast and in the five largest lakes, you have to buy a "fishing-card" in many smaller lakes but that doesn't cost much. The nature is available for everybody. With a few exceptions like peoples gardens, military areas and suchlike of course and with these "right to roam" come responsibilities; that is, an obligation neither to harm, disturb, litter, nor to damage wildlife or crops'"

"Lagom" is a short form of the Swedish phrase "around the team" (e.g. "laget om"). When the Vikings had something to eat or drink to share, everyone were expected to take their own bit which had to be just about right for everybody to have an equal share, or else complaints would ensue. A reasonably advanced mathematical exercise to perform on the fly, especially if what was there to share was alcoholic.

@@RobertClaeson Lagom is from the plural dative form of lag (“law”), so literally "with the laws". The idea that it’s from laget om, and that it has anything to do with Viking drinking, is a common folk etymology. You can literally find the correct etymology in any Swedish dictionary that includes etymologies. It’s not a mystery nor has it ever been debated: it’s just the somewhat less exciting truth. Svensk ordbok utgiven av Svenska Akademien (2021) gives the following etymology for lagom: “dativ plural av lag i betydelsen 'rätt ställning; rätt förhållande'; liknande form har enkom, stundom, ömsom”. Svenska Akademiens ordbok (SAOB, 1939) gives the same etymology: “egentligen dativ plural av lag; jämför fornsvenskans laghum, efter lagens föreskrift, lagligen”. Both dictionaries (as well as Svenska Akademiens ordlista, SAOL, from 2015) are available online at svenska.se.

Just FYI, they included Finland and Iceland as a part of "Scandinavia" but they're technically not. The qualifications for Scandinavian inclusion are shared cultural, historical and ethno-linguistic heritage, including mainland geography. Finland is a part of the mainland but it has a different mythology (ancient religion) than Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Iceland, and their language is Ugric, not North Germanic. Iceland shares all the qualifications except for being a part of the mainland, which many other Scandinavians think is utter bullsh*t. Sometimes you say "greater Scandinavia" to include Finland and Iceland but it's an unofficial and reduntant term. If you want to use the correct term you say the "Nordic countries", which includes: Finland. Iceland. Åland (autonomous island region situated between Sweden and Finland). Faroe Islands (Danish autonomous territory). Greenland (Danish autonomous territory). Svalbard (Norwegian unincorporated area where the world-famous Seed Vault is located). Jan Mayen (Norwegian arctic volcanic island). Peter I Island (Norwegian Antarctic claim). Queen Maud Land (Norwegian Antarctic claim).

A really good video about Sweden! Started following both the creator's channel and yours. 😊 I think they skipped through the music industry too quick though. 😉 Sweden is the world's third biggest exporter of music per capita next to USA and Great Britain. It's most likely that a Swede is behind a song on the charts that you listen to and it's in a lot of different genres. And have you seen the TV series "The Mandalorian"? The music of the show? Made by a Swede (who also did the music for the movies "Black Panther" & Venom" for example). Ever heard about Britney Spears or The Backstreet Boys? You wouldn't have without their Swedish songwriters that created hits like "Baby One More Time" or "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)". Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi, Madonna, Pink, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake are just a few artists that have songs written by Swedes. Maybe you should check out some Swedish artists and react to their music? ;) I recommend ABBA, Roxette, Ace of Base, Robyn, Avicii... ;) There are also some famous Swedish actors like Max von Sydow, Stellan Skarsgård (and his kids Alexander, Bill & Gustav), Malin Åkerman, Noomi Rapace, Alicia Vikander, Rebecca Fergusson...

The right of public access (allemansrätten) does apply to private property as well, but we are to avoid disturbing those who live in the area by not crossing over or occupy someone’s lot, and we’re not to interfere with the activities of landowners. Residents have a right to be undisturbed. When crossing enclosed pastureland, we may not disturb the livestock, and we make sure that we close any gate that we pass through. We may pitch a tent for a night or two in the countryside as long as it’s not where farming is carried on and it’s not too close to a residence. We’re to take care of nature and wildlife and show consideration for landowners and others who are outdoors. Basically, as long as we don’t disturb and don’t destroy, we’re free to roam around.

Or type some words with å in them, such as båt, dålig or får. Å is actually a word too. It means stream or small river. It can also mean ”oh” butI think most people would spell it ”åh” in Swedish, rather than just ”å”. It can also be short for ”och” (and), but that's mostly in spoken language.

Swedish didn't become the official language in 2009. It only became the "administrative" language, e.g. the language in which laws etc would be written. It is often presented as the "official" language abroad, but it doesn't have that status in Sweden. Compare with Malta (not a precise analogy, I know), where most people speak Maltese on a daily basis, but the administrative language is English, meaning it is the language of laws, civil servants and trade.

Swedish has been the administrative language of Sweden since the early 16th century (thereby making it the de facto official language). By the Language Act (2009), it legally became the principle language of Sweden and also legally the official language of Sweden in international contexts. Språklag (2009:600) §§ 4-5 and § 13: “Svenska är huvudspråk i Sverige. Som huvudspråk är svenskan samhällets gemensamma språk, som alla som är bosatta i Sverige ska ha tillgång till och som ska kunna användas inom alla samhällsområden. When it did become official it was more like "Well Swedish is the de facto official language anyway, let's just make it official". It also annoys the fuck out of me whenever Swedes say Swedish is a hard language to learn. Whether a language is hard or easy to learn is entirely dependent on your native language and which languages you speak in general. Swedish isn't very complicated and it's easily one of the easiest languages to learn for English speakers.

The 2 Swedes living in the US are overstating the "problems" we had with the refugees coming during the Syria crisis. The only real problem we had was the government closing the borsers.

Over 50% of Syria refugees were turned away or repatriated with in a year. Yes, there were issues, mainly from underfunding the agencies that should handle refugees and asylum seekers. But those problems have been greatly overstated for political reasons, and the root cause, the lack of funding, is never discussed. Further, the amount of refugees created by the conflict in Syria eclipsed WWII, so that no one was really prepared for the influx of refugees.

Hur står det till på vänsterpartiets partikansli? They never closed any borders. Applications for asylum received yearly: 2012: 43k 2013: 54k 2014: 81k 2015: 162k 2016: 28k 2017: 25k 2018: 21k 2019: 21k 2020: 12k 2021: 8k+ 115k+ since the decision to "close the border".

@@Merecir yeah, let's actually thank you for proving my point too. The border was closed in April 2016. See any drops in the data?
