Greg Davies isn't the one who tricked them. Alex Horne is. The show pretends that Greg is in charge and Alex is his assistant but behind the scenes it's the opposite. Alex invented the show and comes up with most of the tasks but he realized his screen persona doesn't fit being a cruel judge. So he hired Greg to play that part. The show pretends that Greg set the tasks but really Alex does and then tells Greg what they were so he can act like they were his. Thus why Greg was confused by Mark's many text messages. Alex didn't tell him about that one.

Glad you started on Taskmaster. Rhod Gilbert has some of the more original solutions to tasks I think. Also you should check out Joe Lycett's clips about a parking ticket, and dealing with scammers
