This is like bullet points of history. A lot of interesting stuff between the points. Remember that the victors write history, some of what my mom told me of the period of time between the Great Depression and WWII is not everyone else's history.

Oh sweet, this was the video that made me want to study history! I had a never really bothered with it in school but this sparked my interest 😊
To be fair, it was a short video. Of course everything couldn't be fit in such a short time. But it does cover some of the major changes and inspires further study. No history course, even in schools, could cover every single event of a country. Its just far too much time that needs covered to go into depth. You'd need years and years to get only a part of it. Most of it we arent even sure of because we dont have accurate records and the victorious parties often tweak or destroy the truth.

Be kind to Americans - they have a tendency to think that "civilisation" and "human history" started in 1776 AD, bless their tiny little brains while they wait for the Apocalypse promised by a god invented in the Middle East a few thousand years ago. It does not make sense, I know. Just help them poor people forever stuck in "presence" from their lack of history 😁👏
Omg. This is the history I could actually remember

Well, well, Japan has 2700 years of recorded history, so if you try to express that in 7 minutes, it's inevitable that it will turn out like this.😅 Moreover, the history of the Japanese archipelago, which can be understood from excavated evidence rather than written records, dates back to the Jomon period 12,000 years ago...😵

“Land of the rising sun.” Standing in China and looking to the East, this is what Japan looks like. The Duch pursued trade, not conquest. That’s why they were tolerated, and that’s why New Amsterdam (Manhattan) became a prosperous center of trade, and then manufacturing. The Portuguese, with their history of conquest and subjugation, in contrast were drive out. Tokyo does indeed mean East Capital.

Its outline is, OfCourse there are some controversial topics included, OKAY. Kyoto consists of 2 kanji (Chinese character), 京+都. Especially the second letter means capital. 東+京 have 2 letters, East + 京. Hense Kyoto had been the capital of Japan so long by then, East Kyoto suggests Eastern capital of Japan. If you dig into this name story, you may find more interesting tale, Where is the capital of Japan today legally ?

Enjoy your trip to Kyoto! The depiction of Tokyo (= Edo) as the Kyoto of the East is also mentioned in the Emmy Award-winning drama “Shogun. If you are interested, please take a look. The history of war must be reflected upon. Japan has caused trouble outside of Japan, but the Japanese public has also been harmed. This is also depicted in the animated films “In a Corner of the World,” “Grave of the Fireflies,” and “Touch". kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJvGl3mDqNCgnLM

Ive seen quite a few teachers and such from various countries watch it and its accurate according to them. Of course, it doesnt go into depth and some stuff is obviously left out, but it is a short video. Hard to cover all of history in 10 minutes. But yeah, his vids are fun and accurate. And yes samuri were old time mercenaries basically. Didnt start out that way but ended up that way.
@TheTenguwarrior13 күн бұрын
It is even a little more interesting as yes, the Samurai started as Mercenaries but a lot of them also had blood connections to the emperor and other nobles in Kyoto/Heian Kyo. Basically the first samurai Clans were founded by impoverished bastard Sons or Sons of Bastards of the royal family and other nobles that took on the role of Mercenaries while being looked down by "High Society". And then it was ironic that "these Bastards" took over the country, while the different Shoguns made a big deal of their blood connection to the Emperor who was thought of as a living God and heir of the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. (Which is the reason the emperor keeped existing all this time in the first place after the Shogunate took over)

Yes, these types of videos are basically accurate as accurate as they can get from history books, but in a fun, quick, summarizing way. I think it is time you also get into more of these types of youtube videos to react to, to blow your brain, such as History of the Entire World I Guess, or The Universe is Way Bigger Than You Think, or The Ocean is Way Deeper Than You Think, or Universe Size Comparisons, & other stuff like that. 01/06/25

Everywhere in this world, there are myth and Fairy tales. So real physical evidence is Horyu-ji in Nara, built in 607 AC. From that point, we can go at least 300 years back for sure. So about around year zero AC, we have Japanese Emperor (Ten no). Of course, we have much older ruins before Emperor, back to 15000 years ago. In US, native ruins are as old as Japanese.

Thanks for reacting to this fun way of looking at history of Japan. Yes, Tokyo does mean Eastern Capital. For a long time, Japanese people treated their Emporer as if he is God himself. I am originally from Taiwan, and my father and grandfather's generation all had to learn Japanese in school, because during those 50 some years before WW2 ended, Japan ruled over Taiwan. Have fun in Japan. Have a safe trip.

3:40 Samurai originated when aristocrats who branched off from the Imperial family, became subjects, and were posted to local areas began arming themselves to fight against powerful local clans.😌 The Yamato Imperial Court, the ancestors of the current Imperial family, is said to have landed in Kyushu from the continent, first fighting the indigenous clan known as the Kumaso of Kyushu, and then ceding their country from the Izumo tribe of Sanin after peaceful negotiations (in return, the Izumo tribe asked the Yamato Imperial Court to conduct their rituals, and Izumo Taisha Shrine was built).😊 Until around the 10th century, there were wars with the Emishi, a tribe in eastern Japan that is different from the current Japanese people, and eventually the Emishi fled to Hokkaido and became the Ainu. (See Golden Kamuy.) There are two main lineages of SAMURAI: the Kanmu Heishi, descended from the lineage of Emperor Kanmu's princes, and the Saga Genji, descended from the lineage of Emperor Saga's princes. The red and white flag colors of each lineage are still alive in the lives of Japanese people today, and even the feudal lords of the 16th century Sengoku period were divided into allies and enemies based on their origins, so this lineage runs through the history of Japan.😊

Most parts are correct, but there is a discrepancy in the part “Izumo asked the Yamato court to perform a ritual. It is common practice in Japanese culture to offer to the side that has surrendered to the other side for the repose of their souls. (In terms of respect, even though they are enemies). This is difficult for Westerners to understand. And the belief in Yasukuni Shrine, which is often seen as a problem in Asian diplomacy, is also in line with this background. Originally, the shrine was a memorial facility for the war dead, originating from the Meiji Era war in Japan, The religious ideological background is that soldiers who died in World War II became one with the Japanese gods after their death. Of course, East Asian countries on the conquered side find it difficult to understand such an idea, and furthermore, they dislike it because it is a symbol of war, and the fact that government officials visit the shrine on the anniversary of the end of the war for memorial services is often misunderstood as a lack of remorse for the war.
@Mark-Elf12 күн бұрын
@ATI_PC Of course I understand what you're saying.😌However, in order to save space, I will simply follow the description in the Kojiki.I also believe that the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki reflect a mentality of the Japanese that is difficult for people overseas to understand, in that even if they were conquerors, they did not want to be seen by future generations as inhuman and rude people, and therefore wanted to leave a record of the fact (even if it was fabricated) that "we were conquerors, but we also showed the utmost respect to the conquered" 🤔 By the way, if you are not Japanese, as a Japanese person, I would like to thank you for showing the correct understanding of Yasukuni Shrine.😌
YES FOR 300 YEARS ONLY DUTCH ARE ALLOWED FROM THE WEST TO TRADE WITH JAPAN, SO THE ONLY FOREINGH WESTERN LANGUAGE AND SCIENCES THEY GOT WERE FROM THE DUTCH NAD WHEN THE UK ADN AMERICAN GOT THERE THEY SEE A LOT OF OLD DUCTH STUFF AND TECHNOLOGY xD.

If you want to learn the history of one of the three countries, China, Korea, and Japan, it is necessary to learn the other two countries together. These three countries have a very close history for thousands of years, and records of the same history remain, so you can compare them with each other.

If Japan had not been unilaterally forced by the West to conclude unequal treaties after Perry's arrival, or if Japan had not been subjected to imperialism and heavy mercantilism, it might not have had the idea of being on the side of domination rather than on the side of colonial rule. Even during World War II, Japan's oil and other energy exports were stopped, in part because of its relationship with Germany. Japan, not being a resource-rich country, is certainly in a tight spot. One fact that exists is that this triggered an expansion into the Pacific Islands and continental Asia in search of energy. This is only a historical interpretation from the Western point of view, so there is also a Japanese side of the story. This area is depicted in the animated movies “Grave of the Fireflies” and “In This Corner of the World. However, war is not good and we must reflect on the past. War only produces tragedy and the weak are oppressed. This is evident in today's Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, and most recently Syria.

This was very accurate, I loved his short version. If there’s one about Korea history, you should watch it since this briefly mentioned Japan’s occupation of Korea. In older Korean generations, this still often gets brought up and grudges are still held.

I’m from Malaysia. Japan was an aggressor that attacked our country and neighboring countries because they wanted raw materials, early 1940s. Their army marched through the villages/countryside killing lots of civilians (we didn’t have military defense as it was a surprise). Since it’s historically significant for us, we were taught about it in school (the whole ww2). So I know that the ww2 parts at least, in the vid, are true! Very short summary though.
