unfortunately its not always an option to do the right thing when you happen to cross paths with an ambulance on an active run. Prime example from my own experience as a truck driver: Two lane road with "rather soft embankments and ditches on either side, me driving a 40 ton truck" ; radio doing its thing just loud enough to be heard above the driving noises and the running Thermo King unit on the trailer; I noticed cars on the opposing lane as well as those following me diverting to the right most possible position to come to to a stop so i figured there has to be an ambulance running blue lights and siren behind me. However I could not do what the cars did because of the vehicle I was driving, so here is what I did instead: I kept driving WITH MY RIGHT TURN SIGANL ENGADED to inform the driver of the ambulance that I'm aware and will make space as soon as it is safe for me to do so.

In Italy it's a crime not to pull over when an emergency vehicle has its flashing light and siren active. This ranges from a fine and 2 points less on the driving licence, if the patient dies, criminal proceedings for manslaughter are activated and the civil compensation, the insurance does not pay when there is an obstruction to a public service vehicle.

it is simple in Europe. Forming a safe way for emergency vehicles is a law in most countries. Traffic jam, especially on highways, you always form an alley. You hear a siren, you slow down and get as much as out of the way as you can. You dont know why there is an emergency, and who knows, it might be someone you know who needs help.

Well, people are supposed to anyway because it is way easier to get everyone sorted into the outer lanes while traffic is still moving (although slowly). Once everyone comes to a standstill there isn't really much in the way of getting cars into the outer lanes as everyone already creeped up bumper to bumper. Sadly it does not work often enough and then you get those lowbobs that feel entitled and think the emergency lane is for them to get to their exit faster and they drive through the space created for emergency vehicles. And if one starts you get those other slightly less bad people that think "well if that person does it so can I" and it ends up in a mess. And you still have those that don't know you're supposed to make it happen as it slows down and then only try and start doing it when they hear the sirens and then it just gets messy. Sad to say but there are also videos of the German Autobahn where it isn't really much different from the USA scenes.

I'm a retired Paramedic with 23 years of service. It's a wonder I, or we, don't have PTSD after some or the emergency runs we did. One particular trip stands out. It contains a mixed response from the public. It was an Easter Monday, late afternoon, and we were transporting a critically injured bikey from a Ballarat hospital down to the major hospital in Melbourne. A journey of about 120klm with approx 70% on 2 lane freeway and the rest through the suburbs to the centre of Melbourne. I also had a Doctor and a Registered Nurse with the patient. On the freeway it was a mixed bag with some drivers trying to let us through but as they made room other cars just cut in front of us, causing me to have to jam on the anchors! This happened quite often actually, that day. Lots of tired people returning to the city after their Easter holidays. However, when we reached they outskirts of the suburbs we found that the Police were running an "Intersectional Block" for us. That was Heaven, after the freeway. I could sit on 80kph (50mph) all the way from there to the hospital. I think that in Australia it is pretty much a mixed bag, in how motorists behave for emergency vehicles. It is mostly good though. By the way, I set the record for the fastest trip between the two hospitals.

Hello form Spain! One of the big rules over in europe is that if you hear a ambulance or cop siren you get to the side of the road, and if there isn't much space to try and speed up to get to either a bigger place to pull over or try to find any space even if it's a pedestrian road to kinda pull over (even if it's seen as rude, if you are giving space to an ambulance or cop car to get by it's accepted, just like kinda invading the contrary side of the road would be almost always a no go you are allowed to do it in those cases as well) to let it pass, it's both common courtesy and a really smart way of thinking as "The sooner I get out of the way of this vehicle and it gets out of the way the faster I'll get back to being on the road again, and they'll get were ever they need to be". It's a win-win-win kinda deal, you let it pass both because you or a loved one could be in need of help someday, because then you can get back faster to whatever you were going, the ambulance or cop car now gets faster were it need to be and it can be the difference between someone dying or living sometimes

Now what you can say is we don't pay extra expensive fees to health care or ambulances when we need them in times of need. Cheers.

Simple fix - consistent road rules country wide & real driving schools In Germany you have to make an “emergency lane” when traffic gets jammed. Regardless if there’s an emergency vehicle approaching or not. Practically that mean if/when an emergency vehicle has to go through heavy traffic, there’s already room for them - at least in theory and by law.
@cnikkor
@cnikkor Ай бұрын
yeah, that's why those videos look even more impressive. It sometimes looks like the lane appears out of nowhere and everyone is making room just in time regardless of the traffic being jammed. When in reality or at least in theory, the emergency lane was already there like minutes ago and was propagated from the accident all the way back to the end of the jam by simply doing the same what the car right ahead of you is (hopefully) doing: pullling over before coming to a hold. and voilá you saved some lives (maybe)

@Perry0302 Ай бұрын
Hi German dude here, I just wanted to add a little funfact to the Video. In Germany we have driving schools that everone who wants to do their licence has to go to. They consist of (for cars) 12 theoretical lessons each one 90 mins and another 2 theoretical lessons for extra stuff. In these theoretical lessons the instructors already explain to you how to get out of the way when theres an ambulance coming (on country roads with 1 lane in each direction, each lane moves to their right side of the road and on highways with 3 or more lanes only the left most lane moves left while all other lanes move to the right as seen in the video.) Driving Schools also consist of Practical driving lessons where every learning driver has only one driving instructor which they do all their lessons with (its important that everyone has only one instructor because the instructors judge your progress while driving and depending on how good you drive you do more or less lessons.) When youre done with all theoretical lessons and practical lessons you have to write a theoretical test and if you pass that you do a final driving lesson with an external driving examiner also sitting in the back off your car (additionally to your normal instructor) that judges your driving and decides if you are able to handle your vehicle as well as everyday traffic.

for me it is completely natural at the moment when the traffic on the road slows down for some reason, to point the car to the side so that in the event of a stop I am already partially out of the lane even if I do not hear any sirens (ambulance, police, fire brigade), most drivers do this in our country (Czech Republic) he does that too. so an alley is automatically formed in the middle of the road that a "honking vehicle" can quickly pass through,,.. I think it's beautiful to see where people value life (you never know who he's driving, who he's driving for, when you'll need them or who has the last minutes of life and fights for every second) where human life has a minimal price (Asia) or where ego and self-righteousness wins (USA). in part it is also thanks to the fact that in Europe a driver's license is not a right but a privilege for which you have to pay hard and lose it easily..

Up to 200 EUR and 2 Points (Its a system where if you get iirc 6 points you get your license taken away, and you cant get a new one in like a year after. In Germany, Austria and other European countries there is something called Rettungsgasse (rescue lane). If there is a traffic jam on the highway, the cars on the outer left lane are supposed to position themselves as far left as possible. All other vehicles have to move to the right. So it's a prophylactic procedure: In case an ambulance, police or firefighters have to get through there already is space for them. It doesn't work all the time but for the most part. Usually it takes one person to begin the procedure and as soon as people notice they follow.

Just happened a few weeks ago, I had stopped at a red traffic light and was already trying to figure out from where I heard a siren. The traffic light turned green, the guy in the car behind me honked, because I didn't move, I pointed to the ambulance rushing in our direction. He immediately reacted and apologized. After the ambulance passed us, we both were on our way. No big deal, no problem at all. I just heard the sirens much sooner. Actually all other drivers either waited or gave way to the ambulance. Easy peasy for the EMS.

Sydney has motorcycle paramedics for busy roads, especially the CBD. it’s magic to see them weave through traffic, they do the same training as police riders.

I would expect people to not move out of the way in countries like India, China etc but the USA shocked me a little.. here in the UK it's pretty much like Germany, you hear sirens and you pull over as best as you can...

I'm german. You actually have to move when there is traffic, even though there aren't any ambulances, yet. So, If you really wait to start moving until you can hear the ambulance, that's a big difference.

I'm Scandinavian and seeing USA didn't shocked me at all, I expected people to just sit there blocking the ambulance. Anyone in these USA clip needs to have their license taken away.

In Sweden we have like electronic tolls. There are cameras that will register your license plates and send you a bill. Most tolls are around like 1$

Very interesting video! Here in the Czech Republic, clearing the way for an ambulance is a matter of course. Even when there are traffic lights at road repair sites, cars automatically stop at the right edge of the road in case an ambulance comes. Of course, there are a few bad drivers here too.

Honestly, the first four clips were pure chaos - cars almost bumper to bumper, parked cars, no place to move out of the way, even if you want. Compared to Poland, and Europe in general, cars drive to the right, leaving left lanes as free as possible. And most main city streets are free of parked cars, not always, but most. With two lane roads, scooting over to the side is perfectly easy, too.

(Ireland) i remember my dad tell us as kids that if you ever see/hear lights and sirens you either move over if you've space regardless of lines, or you speed till you can.

I'm totally blown away that people DON'T move out of the way. Dutch here. I know you've done many vid's on us too so again man. During driving lessons they just tell you once or twice- to safely move out of the FUCKING way. Hahahah it blows my mind that people don't do that. It's not rocket science.
