These police Audi's are A6 Quattro stationwagons, they have 3-liter turbo diesel V6's, almost 300hp and top out at 250km/155mph. They are used for high speed chases like this. The cops driving these are specially trained for high speed pursuits, box-in and pit manouvres, that is on top of the regular pursuit training they get in regular patrol cars. In this case the cops decided it was not worth the risk to the general public to continue the chase, due to the high speeds. They did manage to track him down and arrested him

I live in Germany in the border region with the Netherlands and as the Netherlands and Germany have mutual support agreements, I have often seen Dutch police officers doing their job in my German village. Always correct, always friendly, always highly professional. They are allowed to pursue and arrest suspects across the border in Germany or provide support at public festivals such as carnivals or music concerts. These agreements also exist in the areas of rescue services, hospitals and fire departments. If the nearest rescue helicopter or emergency doctor is stationed in Germany, we help in the Netherlands and vice versa. Or if the nearest hospital is in Germany, the Dutch rescue helicopters will fly to it in an emergency. I really like the Dutch. Great neighbors. Fine people. 🇪🇺🇳🇱🇩🇪

Dutch police will call of a chase with regards for public safety when the risk is deemed too high so they do not risk pushing the suspect into crashing and causing casualties. They decide this because they keep radio contact with a control centre where an Officer of Justice (Officier van Justitie) makes this decision. It also says that they arrested him with an warrant for this offense at his residence.

6:55 the street is deliberately designed with trees directly next to the road like that in order to discourage speeding. Thats a 38mph road but they are doing more like 80/90. Those are usually very safe roads actually. Just not with this kind of driving.

Did you also know that the trees are closer to the sideways due to the real “tunnel vision” view which makes it seem more narrow and therefore psychologically makes you slow down. We even hire psychologists to design a road down here hahaha.

It's the same reason why roads also has slight curves instead of straight roads. It's so that drivers don't get complacent and lose attention while operating a motor vehicle. Which, to be fair, in this day and age is definitely not a bad thing.

As a Belgian i wonder how many countries have imaculate roads as the Dutch? When you cross the border by car you know by the quality of the roads Sometimes i think the Flemish nationalists just want to join the Dutch to fix the potholes. The German roads are great aswell! What you say at 6:45 is exactly why there are trees there. Noone (in their right mind) will want to drive far above the speed limit on a relatively narrow street with trees to either side. A lot of the dutch infrastructure is designed so that drivers will not want to drive much faster than they're allowed to.

The calm communication was from the passenger cop, the driver only made a few comments, mostly to his colleague in the car. Makes sense, he was concentrated on the driving. The passenger cop was also giving instructions like "turn right on the next traffic lights"

If you: 1: Drive over 100% over the speed limit in a roadwork zone 2: Drive over 100% over the speed limit and exceed 100kmh 3: Drive like a madman 4: Drive with a promille on 2 (BAC 0.2) 5: Exceed 200kmh They take the car, sell it on an auction, no matter if it's your own, a company car, friends car, rental car, throw you in jail for 20 days, 8.5k fine, 3 years with a driving ban and have to take the license all over, and that's just if it's without accidents and in one speed zone. If you enter another speed zone and still break the insanity law, it's double

I’m not sure about every detail hete in the Netherlands, but when you drive 30km/h over the speedlimit you get a big fine and a criminal record. At 50km/h over the speed limit they also will take your drivers license for at least two months or more if you have previous violations. You also have to appear in court. Depending on the danger you posed or are a repeat offender, they can also take your car. These numbers are for when you are speeding outside the building up areas. Within city limits the thresholds are lower.

@@anouk6644If I’m not mistaken guidelines are 30km/h within city’s where 50’s allowed, 50km/h outside city’s, at 70km/h too fast they take the car and we have a permanent law, called Art 5.1 (to which a lot may refer) that the police is always allowed to take your licence if the public risk is exceeding and this will be evaluated later on by a judge (with priority). So we basically have the same. Although it does matter if you drive like 250km/h in the night opposed to rush hour.. both cases will cost you your licence and car, but the fine might be less due to less risk.

I fully agree, watched a lot of cop scenes all over the world, been places but they are professionals, can take insults, are strict, but also caring depending on the situation. Get soooo much training, never “need” their guns apart from own safety. Some of them are even KZbinr, showing stuff nobody can get to, explaining the whole hierarchy at the police along with the military… it’s insane, gotta love Jan-Willem the cop hahaha.

Yes, they are like that. It has become this way over the past 50 years or so. Unfortunately this now turns against them. Dutch people know how it works and that they still need to respect them, but "new citizens" who originally come from regions where the police really is the boss are now a problem. They need to be handled fiercely and the Dutch police does not do that.

The trees next to roads are not to scare drivers into driving (below) the speed limit but rather to make the driver aware of their own speed. If you were to drive on a flat stretch of land then you're more likely to inadvertently drive too fast than when there are evenly spaced obstacles to the side of the road.

The Mercedes they're chasing is 2016-2020 E63 AMG. It has twin turbo V8 with either 560 hp (regular E63) or 604 hp (E63 S) and 4MATIC all wheel drive. They can easily be tuned to +1000hp. It's one of the car that make german super sedan/estate Holy Trinity (BMW M5, Merc-AMG E63 sedan and estate, Audi RS6/RS7) The police Audi with 150-200 hp less did a good job keeping up with an AMG

The ide tify the car and state it is not a merc and they state how fast he is speeding Text 2 "Recognizing the police, the suspect attempts to flee" 250 km is exactly 150 miles per hour A female voice states that due to the high speed they wont make it (perhaps back upnin the area?" The officer request traffic be get towards the a16 as much as possible. He is being assisted with a helicopter overhead, giving instructions when they pull off the highway. The normal roads the are speeding on now have regular bike lines (!) o the right, ehich makes it even more dangerous than it already is. The town is Prinsebeek, next to the city of Breda, between Rotrerdam and the Belgian border. Officer in persuit states on the road with the trees the speed is 140 kph/87 mph. Then the enter Etten Leur, another town nearby. Its two people in the car. Almost never will you have one cop on a beat driving around. Even motorcycle officers ride in pairs in the vicinity. Suspects plates are either German, Fremch or East European. Not Dutch or Belgian or British. After leaving Etten Leur officier states speed is 180 kph/110mph, after which they enter a small town (blue sign with place name) and road. The island i the middle is to force people to slow down, as the speedlimit goes from 80 or 60 kph to 50 kph, whereas they are entering at 180, causing the hard brake and severe swerve. The officer states that the suapect almost crashed. After the wrong way roubdabout, we enter an even smaller road and village. The officer uses a less formal tone of voice and says to the driver something to the effect of : this guy has NO idea where he is or where he is going. The well populated area we see next is the earlier mentioned city of Breda. After the double lane switch getting of the larger road the offcier says concerned to the other "Okay he (the suspect) is now really taking very serious risks. Next lights, take a right (he is being posted by the helicopter). Yeah is is taking guge risks,swerving through traffic. Next light straight on." Then the text says police were able to trace the plates/infor.ation to a syspected driver. They have the judged permission to arrest the suspect outside of caught in the act. With a warrant they visit the suspect

SIV crews are experienced specialist drivers that are trained to box-in cars. Car chases are more or less their daily bread. Being calm and collected helps both the communication between the OC and the other units and keeping the oversight.

There was a young guy here in Sydney many years ago. The police gave him a nick name. "The turbo kid". On a regular basis, the TB kid would steal turbo Porsche's and drive them around Sydney like he was in a race, baiting police into high speed chase's that often lasted for more than an hour, with him eventually evading the perusing HP officers. Eventually caught. Released for "First offence". Stole another Porsche and the chase was on again. The turbo kid was eventually stopped permanently when he collided with a parked car.

I don't know if any police units here in Germany even have cars to deliver such chases! If there are suspects on the run, helicopters are called in to give chase. They are pretty damn good at that. In the Netherlands the citizens that own a car, pay “Wegenbelasting” which is a road tax. It is used for building new roads and upkeep. The text in the beginning reads: they saw the car before and later on the day they spot it again. They stopped the chase since it would only get more crowded on the road due to people heading home from work. He said the average speed was about 210km/h and together with the bavarian police he got him. The reason he was speeding was that he was scared of a normal routine traffic control and paniced and drove away...

The cop at the start wasn’t doing a radar trap. He was called in to wait for the suspect and give chase. In the end the chase was called off because the suspect was taking far too long many risks, putting himself and others in danger. At which point safety is more important than catching him. The police car in the video was of “team traffic” of the national unit. They are specially trained for, among other things, high speed chases. Part of that training is to decide when to end the chase. Part of that training is that you don’t continue the chase when it’s to dangerous because you watch to catch the suspect no matter the consequences. What you sometimes see is when the Zulu (police helicopter) is available, the Zulu picks the suspect car up and the rest of the cops gives him distance in order for the suspect to feel more secure and hopefully reduce speed thinking he got away. The Zulu then continuously reports on the position and when it’s safe to do so, the cops will either box the suspect in or perform a pit maneuver (if a pit maneuver is safe to do, which is only done at lower speeds, never at 200kph).

It's a known fact that those Dutchies have the best Traffic Police drivers on the entire planet and that they're flown in literally everywhere to educate and test other nation's police officers on how to do several maneuvers in several situations. The Dutch traffic police officers are among the best drivers in the world as well. Also, Dutch National Police Academy is said to be the toughest police academy in the world (not including countries which only supply police from army schools - that said, I'm not talking about naval/military police). Even Germany, which has very good traffic police drivers, are taught several times by Dutch police. It almost never happens that a Dutch police officer gets hurt directly from a car accident or is involved in once caused by police during high speed chases. The car used is an Audi Avant A6 which is specifically tuned by Dutch Police mechanics (nót by Audi from the factory).

The lead police car in the chase is from a unit specialized in high speed chases. It is a so called "Snelle interventievoertuig" (Rappid response vehicle), an Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TDI S-tronic Quattro with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 MPH). (Yes, 240 km/h is indeed pretty fast 🙂) In the Netherlands police officers often work in pairs, with these special units almost always. As is the case here. The driver focusess on driving and staying on the fleeing car while his partner operates the radio to keep other units informed of the situation. Regular police units are usually pretty good at car chases as well, but these guys have faster, better performing cars and are even better trained. They are exceptionally good and the only way to get away from these guys is by driving so dangerously that they stop the chase for the safety of the public. Which is exactly what happened here. They aborted the chase because it became too dangerous. The car was a rental but the police managed to find out the identity of the driver and after constulting with the DA they were allowed to arrest him "buiten heterdaad" (litteral translation: "not redhanded", better translation would be "after the fact"). So yes, even though he managed to get away from the chase, he still got arrested. Spike strips and road blocks are used in the Netherlands, but at these speeds it is very hard to position units ahead of the suspect and spike strips in particular can only be used if there is no great danger of the driver loosing control and crashing into innocent bystanders. At these speeds and with the population density here, I doubt spike strips would be allowed. Maybe outside of the towns on the less crowded country roads, but then the problem still is getting in place in time to deploy them. This guy wasn't exactly following a straight line. Running a suspect of the road is used only as a last resort and only when the risks involved (crashing into innocent bystanders) is smaller than the risk of letting the chase continue. This is always a difficult decision, but pit maneuvers and the like are only used when there is little to no other traffic or pedestrians etc. A tactic that is used more often is called "inboxen" (boxing them in). Speed limits on motorways have been reduced recently to a max of 100km with the exception of very few motorways where during night time hours the maximum is 130km. (100km/h = 62mp/h, 130km/h = 80.7 mp/h. The guy drove around 240km/h = 149mp/h) Nope, the stopped the chase because it became to dangerous. However they seemingly had gotten info about the driver, so a judge allowed them to arrest this person "after the fact". This was done so as not to endanger the rest of the people on the road. S5 is a general directive against dangerous driving. Seeing the speed of said driver his license will be taken, and a prosecutor will decide whether or not he gets it back, but as the speed was at times double the maximum allowed speed his car will be impounded as well. Besides that, due to this there is no fixed penalty a judge will decide what fine and/or prison sentence this person will get.

The chase unit youre seeing is actually an unit from the national police. they mostly drive so called SIV's which stand for (Snelle interventie voertuig(fast intercept vehicle)). Its a Tuned Audi A6 avant. To be driving one of these cars you go true extra training to be skilled enough to drive in chases like these.

Basic police training in the Netherlands is 2 years and from that point on you have to chose your expertise and take at least another 3 year training for for example traffic police, bachelor police officer, bachelor local police, detective etc. So these guys have a minimum of 5 years of training under their belt and they probably already have a lot of experience. That is why they sound so calm, because they are trained to stay calm and they know exactly what they are doing.
