Here's my own "Insurance Claim" from many years ago. - I was in the TA, back in the 60’s, and driving a Bedford 4 ton RL. In those days the A38, from Plymouth to Exeter, was more of a 45 mile long, very twisty, farm track, rather than the euphemistically re-named “Devon Expressway” that it is now. On one of the downhill “twistier” bits, just West of Drumbridges, I was, perhaps, a little bit too far to the right going into a tight bend, whilst unseen by me, coming up the hill was an RAF “Queen Mary”, also a bit out to its right, with a Hawker Hunter jet, with its wings removed, on the trailer, coming towards me. We both saw each other when it was far too late to do anything about it, and the starboard wing stub went just over the cab of my RL, and neatly removed the canvas tilt and framing from the back of my truck. We both stopped, and once our shaking had stopped, “pissed ourselves” laughing over the completely ludicrous FMT3 Accident/Insurance forms we sent in. Mine included a great sketch showing an aircraft taking off my canopy, and the RAF drivers showed the same aircraft hitting my lorry. No mention being made of it being on the trailer I never heard anything about it afterwards, although I did have a hard time explaining the damaged canopy, and I would dearly have loved to have seen the reaction of whoever received our reports over the next few days.

Ah, Jasper (Robert Davis), from my home town. Had the pleasure of dealing with him in my official capacity within aviation, and seeing him perform at the Boggery Folk club. I’m sure he will not mind me saying this, but he was once regarded as Birmingham’s answer to the superior Billy Connolly (Who has no equals). If you ever come across Jasper asking about why MG Midget drivers are over 6ft tall, that was based on me. As for the ‘Mole’ sketch, I concur with previous posts. Amanda, you must check that out for yourself. It will put your infectious giggling and snorting into overdrive.....trust me.

I saw Jasper live a year or two before lockdown. It was the same routines I’d seen him do on programme after programme after programme on TV - including the insurance claim forms - to the point that I knew word for word what he was going to say before he said it. But it was still as hilariously funny as the first time I’d heard it. It was a brilliant night out. The show had been postponed as he had to have urgent heart surgery. He looked like he’d been ill, but he was still fantastic! My favourite routine is the one he does about the dog and the Chinese restaurant. I haven’t heard him do that one for a long time.

He was on tour a few years ago with his childhood mate, Bev Bevan the drummer from ELO, a fantastic rock & comedy tour! It was absolutely brilliant but unfortunately I think he had a heart attack halfway around and had to postpone a bunch of it. He still came back and finished it off but I'm guessing there won't be much more of those :( Also saw him at the Albert Hall back in the late 80's, always been a comedy hero of mine.

Hi Amanda, my family always loved watching Jasper`s comedy. Lookout for Canned Carrott where he made fun of our adverts. Also as mentioned by Marshal Palmer, The Detectives, which was a sitcom where he acted alongside Robert Powell & they were aided by George Sewell. The latter gave weight to his part, as he had played a similar role but in the tv drama Series, Special Branch 20yrs earlier. He also played a "heavy" in the great 1971 film Get Carter & was in other tv Series, I enjoyed. As well as this comedy, I particularly liked Robert`s earlier work in the (remarkably on point) Sci-fi drama Doomwatch in the early `70`s & in the thriller/mystery film Harlequin in 1980.

Little bit of Trivia. Jasper was the first comic to do a live performance on UK TV. To prove it, he brought a TV onto stage and showed himself. He also told people the ending of the film on ITV and said that there's no point in watching it now. The show was titled "Unrecorded", which later appeared on a vinyl record with the "Un" crossed out. Two part that I remember vividly are "I've got this mole" and "Do you know you can set light to a fart". I also think it had the nutter on the bus sketch.

Hi Amanda, good to see you enjoying some more British comedy gold with Jasper! Insurance claims is a classic, so many good ones such as 'The pedestrian admitted it was his fault as he had been run over before!'

Legend. Funny Fella. Not many comedians make me laugh so much. Helps to have a comedy face. There's many more sketches he's made that are funnier.

Jasper's earlier stuff was hilarious - try "I've got this Mole" - there's even an animated version.

I used to love watching his "Commercial Breakdowns" where he showed, and commented on, some of the funniest TV adverts from around the globe, and loved listening to him quoting Insurance Claim forms. This routine had me collapsing in my chair. The bit about his daughter bringing home a yoyo damned near killed me.

Amanda, I'm so pleased you found Carrot, I've been watching him from the outset. Dig out his early gear, The Magic Roundabout, The Mole in fact anything from his early years, Thoroughly thoroughly enjoyable.

So glad you finally got to watch him. So funny, one of the best comedians of all time because like you say it is observational comedy that most of us can relate too. Can't wait for you to see Tommy Cooper, very different old comedian but equally funny. Keep up the great videos. Love your channel ❤

Jasper's reference to a stairlift remined me of his joke: Stannah has brought out a new stairlift. It's called The Rapide. It gets you to the top of the stairs before you've forgotten what you are going there for.
