I met Terry Jones and Michael Palin in Lears, Cardiff and they signed my copy of the Life of Brian script. We had a couple of of minutes chat, they were absolutely brilliant. Terry called me a boring little Tick!! (and wrote it in the book). Five hours later on the train home I realised my face was aching, I had been smiling all afternoon. R.I.P. Being British and after my mum passed, I was in Calgary, Canada and saw a car, with an older man driving. On the side it said “Coffin Dodgers Taxi”. I started laughing and thought my mum would get such a kick out of that. Thought he must British and then noticed the Union Jack on the roof.

I have to be honest, I do love our British sense of humour; it is just so varied and different to all other nations. It can be subtle, zany, mad, ironic, sarcastic - all of that and yet totally, typically British. We have a range of humour to satisfy all Brits, at the end of the day. For instance, since finding out that I am autistic at age 60 (now 61), my instinct is to find humour in it. In spite of all the misery it has caused throughout my life, I can now relate to it and make jokes about it. Perhaps that is what we do best - laugh at ourselves!
@SpeccyMan

The funniest thing of all were the numerous mistakes in the subtitles. The important thing about British humour is we will poke fun at absolutely everything and everyone, especially ourselves. We leave taking things seriously to other countries. 😁

An old favourite of mine is a sci-fi sitcom called Red Dwarf, took a couple seasons to find their footing but they really found their stride & made something special. Hell, it was popular enough that the Americans tried to make their own version & even went far enough to steal a couple of the original's actors.

My favourite stand-up comedian is Al Murray, and his persona 'The Pub Landlord'. How he interrogates a number of his audience, and puts them in his show is absolutely brilliant...and when he goes in historical mode, he's in his element... I would also watch the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London Olympics from 2012. The Opening was full of a brief history lesson, whilst the Closing was full of British music, but Eric Idle did a rendition of 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life', which was absolutely bonkers.

The whole of the "Jolly Boys outing" should not be missed. There are just so many sub plots going on, including del boy fitting a dodgy radio to the bus which then blows up. The spooky guest house etc etc. "to Hull and Back" is another absolute classic, but the day they become millionaires is the ultimate in british humour.

Hi Amanda, I recommend that you should watch The Goodies. It's an old series, but very funny. The first time I saw it I was in hospital after getting my appendix out. I was laughing so much I nearly burst my stitches, and I had to turn off the TV. Among my favorite episodes were Kitten Kong, and Bun Fight At The O K Tearoom.

The two Ronnies have the best skit. He's in a hardware store purchasing items and his accents is so thick the clerk is misunderstanding everything.
