Basically the C word in the UK is a swear word, used in soft tones is friendly, in harder tones is aggressive, usually in a middle of an argument and or in drunk ramblings towards strangers. Either way its NOT as bad as the US is with puritan outrages. The Puritans were pushed out of the UK to the US and for that puritan foundation has stayed in the US and not the UK. @mariahoulihan948314 күн бұрын
It was named Cobh, wasn't it, PRIOR to being named effectively fr Queen Victoria? Point of interest, to me, my Father lied about his age to join the Irish Army - at 15 - and found himself posted at one stage in Cobh.. well.. Cork Harbour. he spent one week on and one week off Spike Island on anti aircraft defences (guns) and plane spotting. The Irish Government had prearranged agreements for convoys of American bomber aircraft, escorted in by the RAF fighters, spitfires over Irish airspace. Part of my young Dad's job was to identify and count the same amount went over as permitted beforehand. The lads would take their week's worth of supplies in a rowing boat and have to cook for themselves until the relief boat came. The rest of the time they were at work but in Cork. His auntie lived in Cobh, I still hae distance family there, and so if he was off on a Sunday after Mass he went there for a roast and family time. I met her once, in the 1970s when she was quite an old lady.. Great lady. I could see myself in her looks and personality.. which was weird. lol. Whenever we went over to Ireland to visit the family Dad made sure it was via Cork if possible.. when that crossing came in and he used to look wistfully at Spike Island so I knew he was thinking of his time there. I think on downtime they being so young got up to quite a bit of hijinks as they were largely unsupervised. Recipe for disaster. lol.

At the risk of this not being understood by some, the Army has what is sometimes described as a dark sense of humour, or gallows humour. This combined with the British culture particularly in comedy of self deprecation and taking the pi55 out of everyone as a term of endearment, makes for an interesting combination. So a few numbers from the past, as they say: 'Don't be shy. Your mother wasn't'. And one that was great, until it wasn't. I'll explain: 'What are you upset for? It's not as if you were abused by your Uncle', until a young recruit broke down sobbing and had to be led away somewhere quiet, as it turned out.....
