Moomin isnt really his name, it's the species name Most creatures in moominvalley are name as their species and sometimes a title, as Moominpappa, Snorkmaiden and Little My Little My is a Mymble, and for being little she gat that name And Moominpappa was once called just Moomin, and so was Mamma In the books Hemulen is not the one character the show had, there are many Hamules, all with the same name but each with one especial interest

Fun facts: The Moomins originated in Sweden. The creator/writer Tove Jansson was a swedish/finnish person who lived in Finland, Helsingfors and spoke swedish. Her parents was also artistic and did creative jobs. I think it was her mother who did beautiful post stamps and came from Sweden while her father were finnish and did sculptures. Toves biggest inspiration for the Moomins was her family and friends and also other real life people that she had met. Originally the Moomins were written in swedish text in Sweden and alot of the scenery were inspired by the swedish archipelago where she lived during the summers, both as a child and as a adult with a loved one. She loved being near the ocean but during the winters she lived in Finland. Toves first attemt to sell her Moomin books was in Sweden but sadly that didn't go well since it was during the same time Astrid Lindgren came out with her books and were already popular. (Astrid Lindgren is Swedens most successful author). Tove later on translated her books into finnish and tried to sell them in Finland having just as hard time selling the books until a bit later as she managed to find success. Now The Moomins are both loved in Finland and in Sweden, it is one of Finlands national treasures. The moomins is the childhood for most of us nordics! You should consider to watch more of the show, it's incredible wholesome and cosy.
