"I don't see a snake, dude." Oh, you will love it here. 😂 I saw an elderly American chap get well thwocked in the nads by a fair-sized Eastern Grey at Zumsteins in The Grampians back in the mid-Nineties. That'll serve him right for feeding them and wondering why the roos got impatient when he and his wife started packing up their picnic while shoving the roos away. I yelled to warn them but they didn't listen (fancy that), so I just sat on one of the picnic tables to watch the inevitable show.

@ComaDave Used to live in Western Victoria not far from Zumstein's and each weekend that we visited the Tourists would entertain us as they had a "round or two" with 'roos as they packed up their picnic and made to take the food away. Lol, lol. They wouldn't listen to the locals! Don't feed them guys!! Pack up surreptitiously and quickly load all (babies, small kids, food first) leave required doors ajar, with keys in ignition, then all others back away to car, jump in and leave. You can adjust the car's load when you are a bit away from the picnic area. They're just inquisitive, looking for easy food and a bit pushy. The bucks stand tall and aggressively just to scare you a bit. Just be organised and know you'll be okey dokey.

I remember going on remote camping trips in the Outback in the 1970s, and having to take with me lots of spare vehicle parts, 3 spare tyres, food, water, a full first aid kit, fuel for the vehicle, which was an old school Toyota Land Cruiser. We would check in at the last police station we would see perfore launching into the vast empty, and register our travel plans, and nominate a return date and place. The police officer would then check to ensure we had enough fuel and food and water before we set off. And we never travelled alone. But the memories were worth the effort.

There’s a lot of Roos (and Eastern Browns) where I used to live in Canberra, backing onto the Reserve Land, and in my 25 years there I did many 1,000s of kms of Bushwalking. I regularly walked through mobs of them, often left with no choice but to go straight down the middle. I only got fronted up by two, rather large, Males over that time, and I’d just talk to them in muted tones and slowly take a wide berth. It seemed to work. Honestly I must’ve sounded like a crazy person, as I’d talk to the Roos and Magpies all the time, as I passed by, in a friendly and relaxed way. Miss these walks, so many incredible ones.

Please don't go down the MAGA cesspit slide of believing that YOUR or the freedoms are at risk at every trivial restriction. On a previous stay in Australia, our children went on PB, and they had a terrific time. The attraction was the RIDE on the steam train, not sticking their feet out the side. Worrying about that misses the point. Today THEY remember the ride and the time in the forest and hearing the lyre birds and hand feeding the wild parrots and the goanna.

@@examinatorant4522 "Please don't go down the MAGA cesspit slide of believing that YOUR or the freedoms are at risk at every trivial restriction." Every slippery slide starts with something trivial. That's the point. And no, this was not a trivial restriction. "... our children went on PB, and they had a terrific time. The attraction was the RIDE on the steam train, not sticking their feet out the side." So your anecdotal evidence is supposed to be accepted as the final word? In fact Puffing Billy had done surveys which showed that being able to hang your legs out the side was one of the top three things that people liked about the ride. Ergo, the restriction was a serious one for the railway.

I wouldn't expect you to remember it Ryan, but you've mentioned my hometown of Port Macquarie before in another video. At a local park only 300m from my house growing up (regional NSW mid north coast), we had a kangaroo that was terrorising the park, attacking 3 locals within a week, all unprovoked and one being a teenager just cutting through the park on his bike who was put in hospital. Unfortunately, it had to be destroyed. But, yeah, it's rare, but certainly can happen where, even in a small township, a kangaroo will turn and attack a human. Who knows, the roo may have been a young male during mating season or something who was moved on by a bigger male and felt the park was his, don't remember the time of year it happened, but since I was little, it wasn't unusual for roo's to be at the park coexisting fine. I also work with Port Jackson sharks at one of my jobs at a shark and ray rescue centre while I study my marine/bio degree. Awesome little guys.

No more people starting smoking at 13 in high school, or even ever after high school. Also the thought of not being able to smoke in the car with passengers out of consideration and not around pregnant women or kids, because you're not a monster. People now even think that would be monstrous of themselves. Pre 80's some men would've thought a women to be a modern day KAREN if she asked, '' Put the cigarette out around the kids please?'' Also they don't want to have to go through quitting when they have their own kids. Exorbitant cigarette prices get rid of ALL those problems and keep the hospital queues down.

Puffing Billy is the world's second-oldest preserved railway, and one of the busiest in the world. It's in the Dandenong Ranges about 30 miles east of Melbourne's CBD. I started volunteering there over 50 years ago. It was saved from abandonment by volunteers, who ran it successfully for many decades, but the state government has now taken control of it (although still uses volunteers).

mate i was at a camp a year or to ago when I see an idiot from my cabin or room (whatever you want to call it) throwing rocks at a mother roo and the kid. I pulled him back inside then one of my mates slapped him across the back of the head (we were abt 15-16 so the moron knew what he was doing) but when i opend the door 6-7 mins later the roo (same one) is standing there at the door staring at me after 5 seconds it walked away. so to answer your question yes you may have to defend your self against a kangaroo if there is an idiot near by (and if your in Australia there will always be one near by).

@@lozinozz7567 "I’ve never heard of a problem" A tourist bus driver failed to stop at a level crossing and hit the train. If it had hit where people were dangling their legs out, there would have been injuries, so the rail safety regulator stepped in and banned it. However, it was one of the most popular aspects of riding the train, so the railway worked with the regulator to make changes that would satisfy them to again allow it.

It looks like these continents could well have been joined at these spots, but it's unlikely. The continent now known as Australia is the result of at least four splinted landmasses, that collided during the shifting of plates as the supercontinent as it separated. Recent research suggests that in a much earlier supercontinent named 'Nuna' which existed 1.7billion years ago (a much earlier supercontinent to Gondwana, Pangaea and Laurasia, which existed 500m and 300million years ago) suggested that Georgetown regions in Nth Queensland was once connected to Canada. The suggestion came about when researchers analysed sediment, sandstone and rocks that had a matching signature to that of modern-day Canada. The samples found in this region were not found anywhere else in Australia. This landmass then broke off from both the supercontinent 'Nuna' and then Canada, 1.6 billion years ago, only to collide with the landmass is part of the Mt Isa region, nth Queensland around 100 million years later. The more familiarised continent that is modern day Australia broke away from Gondwana 180 million years ago. Studies are on going.

I can't work it out from that picture, but I did read a news snippet of a Geology report from the University of Tasmania that said the geological record confirms that - at one point - Tasmania and part of North America were joined. I passed on this fact to a visiting US student, who got stuck over here during the pandemic lockdown and had told me he was homesick. Not sure how helpful that was - given this was several millenia ago - when he could have just hiked across to home! Or... was it several hundred million years? Can't recall now. That Croc! From time to time we do hear of someone up North who's gone fishing, alone, and in a tinnie and never came back... Given the size of these boogers, and how they stalk & jump, AND how numerous tour operators TEACH Crocs to leap up next to / associate boats and humans with food... ... ... That SHARK! We were always told as kids, it was OK to go out to 'upper thigh depth' at the beach. Clearly NOT! And I did hear of someone snatched off a beach by a Grey Nurse shark, whilst wading at dusk. But still - pretty rare I think. 😅

To answer your question about roos facing up to you... a few years back I was on a working trip in Canberra, staying at a motel. A recent bushfire had meant that the local fauna [including roos] were coming in close to suburbs to eat whatever greenery was available. There was always a few mobs of eastern grey roos hanging around the motel area for the grass lawns. Returning late one night to my room, as I was walking along a path one of the big bucks was grazing near the path. As I approached he decided to stand up and contest my right of way. Believe me, this guy was bigger than the one in the video. I declared no contest and went back and around the motel to get to my room from a different direction.

Aussie vet nurse and wildlife expert carer here 😊We tape croc jaws and eyes(usually with a towel under the tape to protect the eyes. This is because when the croc can't see, it helps to calm them so we can safely move them without injury to the people and most importantly to make it as stress free as possible for the animal. It looks a bit crazy, but it is not in ANY way shape or form, harming the animal. Kangaroos usually stay clear of people, but males can be aggressive and females will defend their young. Though they are predominantly peaceful animals. Much better to watch from a safe distance, unless at a sanctuary or other facility that have roos that have been bred in captivity and are used to human contact, petting, feeding ECT. Sharks only really need about an adult's knee depth of water to swim. So when life guards at our beaches tell you to get out of the water, they mean COMPLETELY out!! Those "frogs" having a ride on the snake, aren't frogs they are Australia's biggest problem pests, cane toads and they aren't having a ride they are killing the snake with the poison they secrete. They are non native and cause havoc especially in Queensland and the tropics. Port Jackson sharks don't look like that unless you shine a light directly on it. It reflects similar to the scales on a snake does. Frilled neck lizards are one of my favourite animals! They have some of the funniest personalities Aussie reptiles have to offer. Thought hey can bite and will be aggressive if they feel threatened. If you see one in the wild, again, look, but don't attempt to touch or you may just loose a finger 😉😅 I guess the point here is that respecting our native animals and being as well informed as possible in regards to them is the most important thing. Our animals don't go out of their way to harm humans, unless humans go out of their way to cause it. If you respect them and leave them well alone, it's highly likely you will be completely safe. Just be smart and use common sense. Hope this helps answer some questions!!
