A burger has HOT meat. If it is then cools it is still a burger. If it is made with cold sliced meat it is not a burger. If it is wrapped in cardboard it is just a salad without a plate. Just because the cardboard can be eaten, does not make it good to eat.

When I was teaching pre primary students, occasionally one of the kids would refuse to go into the bathroom stall because there was a huntsman spider in there. I would go in and talk to it and tell the kid that it was OK, it was just Gerry (or whatever name came to mind), and that he was my friend, and wasn’t going to hurt them. No problem. Sometimes I would hear the kids saying hello to it when they went in. One year a spider hung around so long that the kids were upset when it left (or died?) and kept going to look for it.

At some gourmet cafes they have cold meat [whatever kind] and salad between fancy different kinds of grained bread rolls/buns, with whatever dressing and call them gourmet sandwiches. I suppose if the meats cold and between fancy bread rolls it is a sandwich. If it is hot between a plain burger bun it is a burger. If it is not a fancy, just a plain bun/roll and is cold salad and meat then it is a salad roll and is cheaper, just as delicious, doesn't crack your jaw and there are no grains to scour your innards out into the toilet.

The cost of a degree in Australia, although low compared to the US, has slowly risen over the years from when it was completely free up until 1989. We also have the government run FEE-HELP loan system which you only pay back through your taxes once your income reaches a certain level. We don't have a perfect system but I can't imagine having to save for your kids college education from the time they are an infant or having student loans that you are repaying for decades like the US.

Okay, you need to understand that the whole bread/sandwich/burger thing is not based upon the fillings. It is a definition of the type of bread used and the way it has been prepared. So, a sandwich is anything that involves sliced bread. It could be 2 slices of bread with any filling, from butter & jam, to steak with salad. If you toast the bread, it is still a sandwich, although there are many types of sandwiches that are very different when made with fresh bread compared to toast. For example, there is a VAST difference between a "ham, cheese & tomato sandwich" and a "toasted ham, cheese & tomato sandwich" - the difference obviously being in the toasting. If you are ordering at a local lunch bar, they would almost certainly make both types, so specifying "toasted" or not is VERY important. However, a "steak sandwich" is always toasted, so you wouldn't feel the need to specify. A steak sandwich is a variation on a slice of steak (thin sliced/fast cook minute steak or thick/tender/super delicious filet steak depends upon the outlet), with fried onions and sauce on toasted slices of bread. It might or might not have salad, usually ordered extra on steak sandwich. A burger, on the other hand, is a round (rarely square) bun that has been sliced to open and filled with any HOT COOKED protein, with or without salad. The defining characteristic is that it has a "crust" on the outside, unlike two slices from a loaf of bread. "Burger" almost always means that the protein filling is cooked, and you can add cooked extras or fresh salad at will. So, a basic hamburger is a round split bun (untoasted from Maccas or other shit takeaways, usually toasted from a decent servo), with a cooked hamburger patty, onions (raw or cooked depending), sauce, then extras like cheese, fried egg, tomato, lettuce, sauce, whatever. So, you can have a "bacon & egg burger" that doesn't have a hamburger patty at all - ditto, chicken burger, fish burger etc. Lastly, we come to the Aussie delicacy that is a "roll". I've travelled to Europe and the US several times and have yet to find this easily available on a menu. This is a halfway point between the "sandwich" and the "burger". Specifically, it refers to a round (rarely square) bun that has been split and then filled with COLD fillings - most likely cold meats & salad but anything cold qualifies. Think of it as a "bagel" but we don't really have those here (ok, maybe some but they are rare). There is NOTHING that hits the spot quite like the quintessential "Ham, Cheese & Salad" roll, especially when your local deli routinely includes onion, tomato, lettuce, cucumber & grated carrot in their standard salad, with beetroot and/or pineapple as optional extras.

I'm an aussie woman and I don't get the American gender divide. Guys and gals all have to put in the work, but it shouldn't really be _work,_ y'know? You're just getting to know someone! You gotta know if they're funny, if you wanna be around them! Even if it doesn't work out, don't you wanna say you had a good time talking to people? Why shouldn't we approach guys in social settings? I've been approached by guys before, and I'll approach guys to talk if I wanna! What's with putting yourself in a box like that and acting like another human person is such a puzzle? Borderline incel behaviour from the comments, too. "It's [opposite gender's] fault, not yours! Something is wrong with them!" Get a grip. Guys don't have to be focused on girls 100% of the time. We can and should all just hang out with little to no expectations sometimes, if not most of the time.

She points to the wall where what I've always called a rain spider sat above the couch. "This is Ice cream," She says. "Why did you call it Ice cream?" I asked "Because you can't be cared of ice cream, silly."

Ryan, NIDA is government funded and its tuition fees qualify as a HECS (Higher Education Contribution Scheme) debt, same as university fees -- meaning that you don't pay anything until/unless you get a job afterward above a certain income threshold, and then it starts to come out in your income tax, as a percentage of what you're earning. It's a bit of a nuisance, but never crippling, and if you manage to earn minimum wage most of the time (easy for actors haha), you'll pay hardly anything back.

The thing about NIDA is not the cost so much as the tough application process. Back when I completed the application, you needed evidence of your prior spyglass along with two personal written references attesting your suitability to attend, and even if the applicant was short listed, you had to do numerous auditions to potentially be selected (I gave my application to my father and he forgot to post it, so I didn't get to those stages)

G'day mate! The sandwich was invented in England back in the 18th century. It’s named after John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. The story goes that he was a keen gambler and didn’t want to leave the card table to eat. So in 1762 he asked his servant to put some meat between two slices of bread so he could eat without using utensils. The idea caught on and voila, the sandwich was born. An original sandwich is just two slices of bread with a filling in between, usually something simple like meat or cheese. Unlike a burger, it’s not made with a bun and the bread isn’t toasted or grilled. Easy as that!
