Police chases like these are still quite rare in The Netherlands, so almost every Dutch person will know most of these clips. In the US you sometimes see chases at low speed, and the police will still stay at a distance behind, because of the risk of guns. In The Netherlands, while the risk of gun violence has increased over the last couple of decades, it's still not a major concern, so only in the last video the police used their guns because they knew who they were dealing with. And for Dutch police. doing any kind of manoeuvre is really a thing they only do when there's no risk of passers by getting hurt, or there's no other way to avoid passers by getting more seriously hurt. If the Dutch police are on your tail and really want to get you, they have no need to do these manoeuvres if it puts others at risk, because if necessary they will just keep chasing you until you run out of fuel, because unlike the person they are chasing, they have communication options that makes it possible for other cars to take over, and within the European Union, the police also doesn't have to stop a chase when a suspect crosses the border, it just means there will be an extra police force joining the chase.

the netherlands and germany are pretty similar. So in contrast to the USA. and most of our pursuits are such that the police follow the suspect until it notices that he has no way of escaping and simply gives up. but such a real chase ala America where everything is destroyed and the police pull the guns at the end that's so rare. since not everyone has a normal weapon, the police usually don't have to draw any weapons. usually it is enough if 4 police officers storm 1 man and wrestle him to the ground.

Gotta do some reactions of UK chases, some are absolutely insane...
@coldwhite4240
@coldwhite4240 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm from the UK and thinking of what I see from footage of similar pursuits over here, that first one doesn't showcase the Dutch police to their best. They didn't get tight up enough to the offender's car in the first place, allowing him an angle to swerve around (you can see that about 2:19), then when he's on the open road they let him run rings around them... then one cop tries to ram him AWAY from the side of the road INTO the oncoming carriageways! (4:48). From about 3:55 they had enough cars around him and he was going slowly enough that they could've tried to use a box/TPAC manoeuvre. Not sure if that's a common tactic in the Netherlands though. I know it's not always fair to compare country to country as the regulations, procedures, etc can be different, but the UK roads police would be likely to use the tactics I mentioned. To be fair, the second clip was a text book PIT, and all the others looked well handled. The one with the Range Rover was especially difficult.
@coldwhite4240
@coldwhite4240 Жыл бұрын
For something a bit different, I'd recommend looking at the UK police intercepting criminals on mopeds. They've been authorised to use "tactical contact" in recent years, because mopeds have become such a problem in the cities for snatch thefts, raids on stores and lots of other offences. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGfSgWVuqJeVrJY

@@jolandafrijlink6103 Nope, they can fire at a shoot-to-disable or shoot-to-kill basis immediately if they don't get the chance to fire a warning shot first. There was a video once from a knife-wielding man that after being quite stationairy in a residential street suddenly ran towards an officer, who had already drawn his fire arm, which he than used to fire, hitting the guy in the foot or leg, and while bleeding, stumbled past a dumbstruck bystander who was taking a video of the ordeal. Officers don't need to fire a warning shot. If they feel their safety is at risk or a member of the public is at great risk, they will fire with the intent to harm if they can do so safely. Yes indeed, every use of the fire arm is under scrutiny to see if the use was allowed or proportional (and rightfully so), but some cases of fire arm usage will be very clear.

The normal protocol to stop cars in a chase is to box them in, or drive in front of them and try to force them to break. PITS are not commonly used in the Netherlands, I believe they are only used when direct danger for others is in case. The car you see on 11:18 is not police but Marechaussee. They actually are a brand of the army but concerned with police tasks. They do border patrol so you will see them on docks, airports etc and also they act as military police. 9:48 I'm glad that's pretty much the standard here in the Netherlands. Just a shame we are only allowed to drive at a 100kph during the day (60mph) and 130kph (80mph) in the evening and at night. @IWrocker By the way, you should watch some videos showing Daf trucks doing the Dakar rally in the 80's. If you search for Daf, Dakar and team De Rooy you'll find some amazing stuff like a Daf truck passing Vatanen in a Peugeot 405 rally car in the desert

Yes i remember that chase.😅 I am the guy in the video on the moped left on 0:45.😁 The guy in the car was screaming like crazy. I'm shocked to pieces. I heard sirens, but no recognizable police car. And then they suddenly drove straight towards me.😮 It later turned out that he was in a psychosis and was on drugs. I received that information through the judiciary and later it came out in the media. Fortunately there were no casualties.😅

Lived pretty close to a highway for a while, every once in a while a police car would come by and you knew something was up somewhere but a few times you hear several come by at once and you knew it was a chase like this. Always looked for the footage after, pretty fun to see what you can do on the roads late at night if you don't mind getting chased by the cops

I'm from Netherlands and this is old videos. The scene with the SUV got stopped in the ally was because it was a police car blocking the way from him to go further in. They blocked the car and left it there and got themselves in safety. The driver was in influence of drugs , had a gun and no driving license. The car on the field was chased by a military police car. You could see it on the color on the car, the blue end.

About the 'quote' "Nice police car"; these Volvo's are socalled SIV's, Snelle Interventie Voertuigen or "Fast Intervention Vehicles in english. These policemen are highly trained in high speed driving and doing inboxing manoeuvres. You have to be a hell of a driver to escape these copcars.

All these chases are quite rare here, fortunately. Some of these videos (like the first one) got in the national news. The police are very well trained and prepared for this stuff, it doesn't happen often. To actually use the gun and fire shots is a last defence, and if shots are fired, the national forensic detectives will investigate if that was done properly. When the suspect car is rammed, this has to be in the report because the car has been used as a weapon. If ramming a vehicle is done unnecessarily, the suspect can be freed of any charges in court. Performing a PIT manouvre is really rare in The Netherlands, although it happens if all else fails.

Answering what you said at the end of regarding strategies in police chases. You need to watch pursuits from the UK and check their strategies out with the TPAC because using the PIT is dangerous and causes damage to the immediate environment, only in very say circumstances they would try and do one unlike in the USA where they just do it without even thinking which has killed so many.

8:29 lol...all dutch Highways have a so called 'vangrail' (catching rail) in between opposite directions, however....we do NOT have North and South bound roads. They go in all directions because they have to avoid cities, villages, homes, farms, forests...etc To distinguish the difference we say towards which city it leads since our highways always lead from one city to another. And the markers on the side if the roads will tell you if it is Left or Right.

Clip at 8:40 was very organised. Looks like its a pursuit that has gone on for quiet a while. In this case, the entrances to the motorway would be blocked and traffic cleared by other units so officers in pursuit have a clear road to work with. First they were trying a TPAC manuever, essentially boxing in the driver with the recording car at the front, but it was unsuccessful as he rammed through between the barrier and the lead vehicle. At motorway speed you would usually not attempt a pit maneuver as it can go very wrong at high speeds and officers have a duty of care for all lives including the driver running from them. They attempted another TPAC against the other guard rail but the driver saw this coming and cut across the police car, pit manuevering himself a little. This then slowed the speed of the car and allowed the police to ram the vehicle and block it against the right guard rail safely. Previous clip at 7:20, the driver was turning onto incoming traffic of the motorway. This is obviously very dangerous for the public and so police made the decision to end it immediety. First attempt failed but the officers followed at all costs and made a 2nd attempt to prevent him from driving into oncoming vehicles.
