It is probably mentioned before, but DAF trucks is for me the DAF TurboTwin Paris Dakar rallye trucks. At some point they changed even the rules as they were on their way of becoming nr1 overall in the rallye over the cars (they were 2nd at some point, basically just being support trucks). Jan de Rooy stays my hero there.

Yeah, the TurboTwin is a beast... There`s a video of it and a 405 coupe more or less side by side at 200+ kph, and the DAF was actually pulling on the 405, which was already a beast for it`s time

Also, check out these military trucks from DAF. My favourite is the YA328 aka dikke DAF, or "fat" DAF. That thing is very capable off-road and has a special axle configuration. Also, look at FTF. They were actually built at my hometown, heavy-duty trucks with screaming Detroit engines.

You should watch the DAF trucks in the Dakar ralley trough the years, especially 1988. The DAF Turbotwin X1 driven by Jan de Rooy, against a normal ralley car with Ari Vatanen behind the wheel.

Ginaf and Daf are 2 seperate companies. Daf is owned by Paccar and Ginaf (used to be?) owned by a chinese investor. Ginaf makes special trucks in lower numbers using daf components and its also approved by Daf. They are known in the Netherlands for their hydraulic suspension on tippertrucks, it levels itself out for safer tipping. 5axl dumptrucks are very common in the Netherlands as we are allowed up to 50 tons on regular trucks if you have enough axles.

When we had a moron in a B-double try and deliver to our worksite, he went the wrong way and ended up with his middle axles hanging over the side of cliff( sent a pic on discord a while back) the two heavy haulage recovery trucks that came were very impressive, one long nose Mack and a cab over kenworth I believe. Awesome job done by those guys for sure.

Sorry for correct you, but the european trucks not only are moore powerful, but also have less fuel compsumtion. The answer to the mistery it's basically we need to make it this way. USA not have any real mountains other than the Rocky Mountains, so you never have real need for power. But try to go from the south of Norway to the east, or from France or Germany to Italy, or anywhere in Spain and all you're gonna meet are mountain ranges. If you whant to go anywhere in europe chances are you expend half of your time climbing and the other half descending. Europe have moore mountains, so it need moore powerful engines. Also it have moore expensive fuel, so it needs moore eficient engines.

So we had cars before, but not really many ones so they can fit in the roads that we already have, most of them centuries old roads. And you on the other side get flooded by cars and you have to build the roads that fit them. In other words... USA made the roads for the cars they had, and Europe made the cars for the roads they had. Any european knows that they can go in an american road much moore eficiently with his car or truck than an american with their, but if we had the chance to go there everyone will choose to drive one of those massive monsters with theyr uneficient v8 at least to try something cool. And any american will love to drive in an european road with his vehicle, but deep inside you know that it's gonna be a pain in the ass in every way... cost of fuel, dimensions of the rad/vehicle, etc. not to mention that by emissions it will be probaly ilegal to drive it here. Look, we have some "battlefields" like Australia and South America, The autralian outback it's like Texas, flat, wide roads long straight distances... what they want? American trucks; South America, you have to cross the Andes for go fron central Chile to Patagonia, what do you choose? European truck. What make european vehicles better? We can drive our vehicles there... yes maybe we not gonna be as confortable like in any of yours, but we can do it. You can't drive you vehicles in our roads. I have a friend that had a Firebird and they had to sell it because it was impossible to drive. You get it to a narrow road with curves and rear traction simply try over and over to get you of the road (they said american cars are no mean to be drive in european roads, but to be piloted like a jet, and with the same consecuences if you not do it with the same concentration, fatal crash). You try to get it at an historic neighbourghood and simply don't fit in the streets, you want to park it abd there's no spots for such a big car. I can get my Seat Leon MK1 at whatever road you want in the USA and do it better and cheaper... But Kight Rider doesn't drove a Leon, but a Firebird, and everybody want to drive KITT. Yes we have better cars and trucks, Yes we love your unneficient junk. And trust me you will love to drive a Leon, even you barely will fit in, and your coffee not fit in an european cup holder. But after experience for a while the reactions and nerve of such car, and praise it's compsumption, you will miss to drive sitting in a couch at an indeccent height and sipping your coffee by the gallon while your car sips gasoline at the same pace. At the end of the day we love cars and trucks... and the best one it the one that make you enjoy.

The absolute pinnacle of DAF engineering were the TurboTwin trucks. Aluminium spaceframe twin triple turbo diesel engine producing 500hp each, in the 1980's. They reached top speeds of close to 220 km/h on sand. There's a great video of the X1, the third generation producing 1223hp, racing a Peugeot 406 T16 driven by Ari Vatanen, across a flat part of the desert at 200 km/h/125 mp/h. Unfortunately, the sister truck was doing the same but at the end of the straight, it hit a bump and rolled 6 times at 200 km/h or so. It rolled for close to a kilometer (0.6 mile) and the co-driver, Kees van Loevezijn, was thrown clear of the truck and died on impact. The driver, Theo van de Rijt, and mechanic Chris Ross, were badly injured but survived. For some reason, Chris Ross is omitted from most articles on this crash, he was a British guy and deserves the mention the other 2 get. Van Loevezijn's seat broke of it factory mounts, which wasn't upgraded as the rules hadn't been updated to deal with the massive increase in speed and power for the trucks. This crash changed that. DAF pulled out of the race and Dakar in its entirety. Jan van Rooij, the driver of the X1, bought the whole operation and raced until he went over a small dune, which had a massive drop behind it. The crash was so violent, it broke the cab off the frame (COE style, so the cab hinges forward). His son also raced Dakar, not sure if he still competes. The race the DAF crashed in is notorious as it was the race the organiser of the event, Thierry Sabine, crashed in a sandstorm, trying to help competitors. A French news crew was at the scene and had the only helicopter. They were roped in to act as the medivac for crashed contestants, one of which was the DAF X2 crash. They filmed the entire thing, the French don't give a shit. The whole newscast is on YT, which shows the DAF crash in detail, very shortly after it happened. They show the body of Van Loevezijn and the injured Van de Rijt en Ross, next to the mangled wreck of the DAF. It is quite grim to watch. I didn't know when I first watched it and it is quite a shock. There is also footage of De Rooij, DAF team leader, hearing the news after finishing the stage. They were very close and it hit him really hard. More upbeat footage is of Dutch TV interviewing De Rooij, who shows off his truck on Zandvoort and in the Brabantse dunes. The most impressive Ginafs are in use in the mining industry ie not on the public road..... I believe some were exported to Indonesia In the Netherlands the max. Load per axle is ten tons in order to avoid road damage.... where this doesn’t apply these trucks are loading much more.... The power is not really lower of the US trucks. The thing is that Scania, Volvo, man and Mercedes is compeating in the superheavy truck business.with 150 ton trucks for speciall cargo. And when you hear the truck having 700hp, that is them. The normal trucks usually just have 300-500. Still, some truckers buy the 700hp just because.

all uk Daf, are built by leyland trucks, every xf, is based on the original Leyland 95 series, the cf series were designed by daf and the two combined to make Leyland Daf, daf went bust. Leyland Trucks then took over and sold all european trucks under DAF, Packard bought leyland trucks. All uk Daf, still say, built by Leyland trucks, inside the door.

That Ginaf truck has 5 axles because of axle weight. A dump truck with only 2 axles and 50 tons of rocks in the back cannot drive on regular roads. A 5 axle truck has only 10 tons of load for each axle, so it still can drive on normal roads. That is also the reason why those big machines (4 wheel diggers and so) are transported to their location on low-loaders having 30 wheels.

GINAF are totally different ,they just use the DAF engine and cabs ...Daf have never did an engine larger than 560 ,now it is 530 bhp as the largest ..With them being american owned ,all engines are called PACCAR ,you will see the engine in PETERBILT and KENWORTH product....The yellow jackson recovery truck was a 2003 truck

so those engines make 480hp, but theyre also making 1700ft-lb's of torque if this conversion is correct. also fun fact, im british but i dont use nm's. i think ft-lb's is better. though i do watch many american car youtubers like cleetus etc.

too bad Daf do not have proper 8x4 heavy haul truck what can be competitive with MAN and Mercedes. Lets be honest 2500Nm is not what we need on heavy hauls. They dont even offer proper 6x4 heavy haul trucks because they dont offer 16 gear transmissions anymore but those damn 12 gear transmissions
