We, Thai people and ASEAN people will see the style of playing Sepak Takraw as normal. Because it is a sport that is played everywhere. Usually played for fun in the evening, from children to adults and everyone, regardless of nationality, can play if they play often. Speaking as someone who used to play Takraw before. 👌👌

This was once used as a passing time or to sharpen our traditional martial arts skills before sparring especially for Silat and Tomoi/Muay Thai students. Year 1968 something, it became a standardized sport. It is super good for martial art students from South East Asia to master timing, deeper energy, tactical, pain control and so on.

as somebody mentioned, you dont need to master the spikes … just an ability to juggle the ball with both feet, knees and forehead, you are good to go … but against ur friendly next door SEA guys, an ability to deliver decent spikes will make it a decent fight … and both teams jeer each other often for any mistakes or points won … and both teams will take it in their strides no offense taken as both knew one can give out as good as the other and can take it as good as the other… quite gentlemanly …

Used to love playing this when i was younger. Beauty of being sub 60kg you can throw yourself around and you dont feel the hits/landings like a heavier person. Also id imagine like the floors we played on the floor in the video is probably spring loaded. Although you cant see the floors movement it is significantly softer to land on than it looks
@MystroZB2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the floors are made out of rubber to soften landing but there is no way they are spring loaded, learning how to land after spiking is a very important thing to learn while playing this sport

My body back then was flexible and nimble as fck. So athletic, girls literally fell in love with me🤣 But, today I can't even pick up things on the ground because of my large tummy. 😂 Playing this sport need a lot of hardwork to master complex moves. We were champion 8 times in a row in highschool. Filipino here.

Modern Sepak Takraw's balls are made from synthetic plastic, which make them lighter and more durable. The original Takraw's ball are made from woven rattan. They are hard and heavy. Also hurt when it hit you or when you try to hit it with your head. And it get heavier and harder when wet. I was a Sepak Takraw club member, back in my primary school days, as part of my compulsory school curriculum. It's not by choice. My first choice was football (Soccer for Yanks). My school's Sepak Takraw club was the loser/rejected kids club.😅

Takraw used to be just brownish, made of 'rattan' (like some furniture) with varying quality, heading was used very often then than now, w/o callus the initially hard ball hurts anywhere it contacts, the bandana helps your head some, learn to land with two hands (w or w/o one additional foot), one hand landing can break a wrist. One day it will become a true international sport.
