So I’m Jewish and I love this sketch and I’ve sent it to friends. Some things might not click for you but Stanmore would be an equivalent in the US of say living in Brooklyn, so it’s an area with a high Jewish population.

You may wonder why, looking for the most obvious Roman Catholic character they could find for the punchline, they chose a 15th century Borgia Pope. It was probably because this sketch was produced shortly after the (controversial and critically-panned) 1981 BBC series "The Borgias" in which Adolfo Celi (Emilio Largo in "Thunderball") played the lead role, so most of the audience would get the joke.

I interviewed Ronnie Corbett for radio at the Theater Royal, Glasgow, Scotland. He was hilarious. I tried my best to keep focused when his cigar set for to the waste paper bin next to my right leg. His wife Anne casually poured a glass of water over the bin. He completely ignored the problem and just continued on with the interview. Lovely chap.

We British, are used to harmless anicdotes, and we do appreciate those who find certain topics offensive... It's not just the audio that is bad, this video cuts off the beginning. When it starts he has already said he wants insurance against becoming Jewish, and Ronnie Corbett is doing a double-take while the audience laughs. There used to be a full version on KZbin but it must have been deleted.
