He meant he had to pay for the sauce in the Czech Republic and he didn't need to pay for it in the US.

The weird thing is in some parts of Pennsylvania, not the big cities even, if you don't get nuggets, or just want extra sauce or packets, they want you to pay. McDonald's says "They are franchises and get to set their own rules." In my area, you might get charged but then one a mile down the road, won't charge.
@0utcastAussie
@0utcastAussie 7 ай бұрын
@@RedPenguin2 That's the same here in Peterborough (UK). You can go into (or use the Drive thru) Mukky D's on the boulevard and they'll charge you for the sauces. Go about 2 miles north into Mukky D's on Lincoln Road (Morrisons) and they'll give you numerous sauces for free.

@@0utcastAussie I worked at Maccies about 15 years ago through college, It's meant to be 1 sauce per meal is free. However there were times where the managers would tell you that you should charge for sauces (they were marked as an item on the register, so it must be the case). However as they would flip-flop between free per meal to charging regardless, it makes me think it's down to the managers trying to maximise their profits so they can say "When I'm on shift, we make more money" and it helps make an argument when they want a promotion.

That's what he said, I'm pretty sure he meant you had to pay for extra sauce above and beyond the portion given with the meal.

@@Cheepchipsable Oh yea, but what I mean is, some McDonald’s and even Burger Kings will charge even for a single packet if you don’t get nuggets. Like buy a cheeseburger and want BBQ Sauce, gotta pay. Other locations of MD or BK won’t charge in that same situation.

Hi, a Czech guy here. I've got to pinpoint a fact Honest Guide boys do love the states for sure, and travel through them quite a bit. This was just a clickbaity-ish video to highlight some negative things they encountered, but they sure don't hate the US :) They've got more videos about the US, much more positive ones. Also, the thing with the sauce in McDonalds - he was talking about Czech McDonalds - here a trip to McDonalds used to be very expensive when it started here, and so it was considered a classy trip. That's why he mentioned the sauce, and he compared our McDonalds to a "dirtier" one he visited in the US :)

I've never been to America, but from what I gather, they don't really do "city centres." The real difference is that European cities were built before the motor car was invented. So European cities were designed for pedestrians. American cities have all been built to accomodate motorists. Americans also have strange "zoning" laws. So they don't blend their residential and commercial within the same area like we do in Europe. I've never been to Prague either but I know a lot of people that have. None of them were disappointed. If I were to ever travel abroad to see a city, Prague would definitely be right up there at the top of the list.

I went in a casino in Sydney once across the road from the Penrith Panthers ground. A massive room filled with slot machines or 'pokeys' as they call them in Oz. You would sit down in front of one of them...ash tray to your right , drinks holder to your left and a bucket of quarters in front plus a button to call a hostess for anything from another drink or food , more quarters or to stand guard whilst you visited the rest rooms.

I stayed all over Michigan and found the town squares and as you said go out of the big cities and it’s completely different- I found the people more than friendly and would go out of their way to help you find things or just generally gave you their time on the street if you asked for help. I stayed in Lansing and MSU and visited so many cool places- all around the Great Lakes and a place that boasted the largest Christmas store in the world(I believe the town was called Frankenmuth) … stayed in a converted boathouse on lake in a forest which apparently froze over and people drove across it in winter 😮 Met a real life Sherrif somewhere called Ingham county and had my picture taken on his horse 😂 true story- we got there in the middle of a town parade where they were on floats and throwing sweets to the families and kids as they passed! Have to say I only had positive experiences over 3 and a half weeks and would 100% reccomend the Great Lakes or other parts of Michigan as a holiday destination

Not been to Florida since 1995! 😲 Loved Tampa Bay and St Petersburgh. Watching the dolphins jumping about in the sea. Buying cups of fish and feeding the pelicans. Until my family chucked their full cups of fish at me, only to be rushed by stampeding pelicans. 🤣🤣 My favorite night spot was St Armands Circle, Sarasota area. My wooden Alligator that I bought there is looking at me right now LOL. Hated Miami, apart from the beach front. Great Art Deco buildings, but too busy for me. Might have to go back one year.

I watch some British gaming content creators who have been over to San Fran for various expos and stuff and they've all said it's a weird place. Like you'll be in a really nice cool area, that seems quite gentrified and kinda hipstery, and then you'll walk just a few blocks and you're suddenly amongst a sea of tents filled with homeless people, and people just casually shooting up, smoking crack and meth. I believe it's the Tenderloin neighbourhood that's where it's worst.

Hey king boomer, I think you misheard him, when he was saying they charge for extra sauce he was talking about in Czech, as they do in the uk in (some) McDonald’s, some staff don’t care, ask for a bbq sauce and a sweet and sour and you’ll get 3 of each even though you’ve only ordered a double cheeseburger and fries lol (way too much sauce for the amount of food you’ve ordered) but on the odd occasion you will get either a miserable employee or one having a bad day that will charge you 10 pence for the small square dipping pots and (I think) it’s 20p for a pot of ‘premium’ sauce like sour cream or sweet chilli, but yeah, think he was talking about the maccies in his country/Europe and it’s the same here in 🇬🇧 ! Happy new year by the way 👍🏼👍🏼

If you and your family visited the UK, I would recommend the North West of England as you are within reasonable distance to Liverpool, Manchester, Blackpool, Chester, North Wales and the Lake District to get different views of the UK. Generally cheaper than London and if you plan ahead, may be possible to get an inexpensive flight or ferry to Northern Ireland from Liverpool due to the close proximity. If you do visit South I recommend Devon and Cornwall- I remember Woolacombe and Ilfracombe in particular as beautiful places to visit.

I love videos like yours. They highlight, in a comedic way, how very often people can get disappointed by a visit, holiday.. whatever. Ask yourself this: Why am I going there? What do I want to see? What interests me? If you just go and want to see everything... well... you won't. Plain and simple. Europe is Old. It has transitioned from one 'age' to another 'age' through other ages. You have the Old next to the Young and all right next to the Now.. Do some research first. If you don't... prepare to waste a fuck-ton of cash... Simple stuff... obvious stuff... but you'd be suprised how many people don't... ANYWHERE

In the same year I visited NY and London. London is my old stomping ground before I moved up to Cumbria. New York was a city I visited regularly back in the late seventies early eighties. I was disappointed in both cities, they have both lost that certain something they used have. Times Square had definitely developed a corporate look. And London was just looking dreary. My partner bless his evil little heart caught me on camera ranting about how a black cab is no longer a black cab, it just a mobile advertising hoarding that will transport to your destination. I know we often see the past through rose tinted glasses but when did the cabbie stop chatting to their passengers. I guess I’m just getting old and grumpy.😊

Big cities in Europe often have multiple squares,such as Barcelona. Other cities around the world likely have "hubs" that gear themselves to different demographics, like Bangkok, for example. Edit: almost forget, Happy New Year Kb and family! 😅

Ofcourse there are a lot of squares, but only one is mostly considered the main square. But in big cities like Prague, you can still find original city centers of previously independent cities, because today megacities are younger think than people believe, until like 1920, all these parts were independent cities with their own historical centers.

Old mate is back home talking about his trip. So when he says "We" have to pay extra for sauce, he's not talking about the USA at all. The reason for paying for this is allied to the fact that o/seas McDonalds don't give free fizzy drinks in giant barrel-type cups, and our "large" chips are like your 'small'. Gallons of tomato sauce are wasted every day when people grab handfulls of the stuff and disguise the taste of what they ARE eating. Litres of sugary drinks are also wasted because the human body isn't designed to ingest all those chemicals & stuff - which don't quench thirst but instead build up a reliance on more & more sugar & chemicals. But hey - in many places beer is served in Maccas overseas franchises 24/7. Have never seen anyone get pissed though...touch wood😆😆

You mentioned coming over here UK and theres something that Americans (from lots of vlogs) and some Uk habitants dont appreciate on their historical tours. That is the place names often tell you something about the village or towns history. For example, there are lots of -chesters ,Manchester, Bicester, Dorchester, Colchester which indicates they developed from Roman forts. All of the -fords developed from river crossings eg Ilford (river Hyle), Thetford (river Thet), chelmsford (River Chelmer), but dont mention Oxford cos its the river Thame lol. THeres the -Burys :Sudbury, Danbury, Canterbury all denoting former Anglo Saxon strongholds. There the -bridges-Stourbridge (river Stour) Cambridge (river Cam). It saddens me to see UK place names in America like Cambridge, Boston where they are just names. Where I live, theres places named after celtic islands which were at the edge of the fens before draining : Nornea, Manea, Stonea. Nothing here has a name that doesnt relate back in history.

I Remember when they banned smoking in casinos in the UK. It wasn't like anywhere else, gamblers stink. All the casinos I worked in after that just smelled like sweat and depression.

Interesting video, the smoking thing especially, something as a Brit who as for most of my life known the smoking ban the idea of indoor smoking elsewhere is something I've never considered, don't think I'd like it vaguely remember the smoking in a pub as a kid and it was like walking into smog not good

Yes finally- where are these people being charged for sauce in Macdonalds- I thought I missed the memo cos I’ve never ever paid or been asked to pay for extra sauces… maybe if you’re taking the piss a bit they have to charge but one or two extra never had any problems and going through the drive thru they ask how many you want then throw in extra anyway 😂

22:15 interesting observation on the lack of "city centres" in America, as opposed to those in Europe. I suspect that might be because of the influence of original Roman fora in Roman cities, with a central square & market (forum), and the main public amenities clustered around it, - which then just continued to evolve through medieval and early modern times. Perhaps something American cities never really engaged with.
@lewmo2811

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the influence of the Roman Empire. I think in Europe cities have slowly evolved over hundreds upon hundreds of years whereas a lot of American cities were mostly build within decades.

Where to start! I went to Disney World in 1988 there was only Disney & Epcot, they took a day each from 8am - 9pm queues for every ride (although I'm sure you can pay more to jump the queue). San Fran I was due to go there in May 2020!!!! covidium fukd that up, my Son lives/works in the US of A touring with theatre productions (Peter Pan is his latest show coming to a City near you in 2024) he' was working on Harry potter and had a year contract for San Fran (where it was opening) so rented a apartment for 12 months, nearly bankrupt him, dearest City in the US and a complete shithole (but he got $1,800! his least favourite City is New York, Dirty, Rude and a Con, he hates it, personally I have never been but not bothered about going tbh. I think he was saying In Prague he had to pay for sauces?! In the UK we don't. your not a frequent McDonald's user, your an Abuser 🤣🤣

Theres a comical video that compares American and UK McD's and the ingredient list for the fries is hilarious. UK: Potato, Salt. USA: Potato, Salt, Flavourimgs, Food dyes, Chemicals X,Y,Z, Cocaine, Cement, Nicotine, Caffine. Ok, slight exageration for the last few, but the point remains.

I think the US City Centre thing is pretty obvious, it's a modern layout. Almost no one goes to church anymore or the market square to buy food. Here in the UK and Europe, these are just nice historical places to look around so think he was being unfair to the US. Anyone been to Milton Keynes? A modern layout, similar to a US City. Shops, Bars, Car Parks...and more shops.
