Calm down. Geopolitically the USA takes a very center-stage position in world affairs. There's a reason everybody cares about their elections. Because the USA is very involved in global affairs, it's not unreasonable to think people from other countries dislike the USA because of this involvement. Especially people in countries like Russia, which seek to compete with the USA on the international stage. And if you can't think of a reason for why Ryan would assume Russians might dislike the USA, then I wonder how much you know about current affairs re. Ukraine. @@airamseravat You know anti-Americanism exists, right. It's a phenomenon where people in non-US countries hate US citizens, basically. Americans are more disliked because of the geopolitical power the US government possesses. So yes I understand US citizens will be more attentive of who dislikes them than I am. There's no such thing as "anti-Netherlandism". Its because the Netherlands is less relevant and dominant in global affairs. Russians are very aggressive nation, often displaying hostility toward democratic countries. Many nations that were once under Soviet occupation hold significant resentment toward Russia due to the wars and conflicts it continues to instigate. On the contrary, older people are interested, because there are, so to speak, unloved countries. And one more thing, Russians always distinguish between the people and the government. Therefore, when they say that they do not like the USA, Britain, in 99% of cases they mean the politics of the country, and not the people or the countries themselves (including geography and culture).

I suggest you to dive deeper if you want to see wider picture. Video like this one is from Moscow. It’s a bad representation as Moscow youth live in their own world. If you ask them about war directly you will see how shady their answers will be. And if you go ask same questions in other regions of Russia the answers will be much more hateful even from younger generation. Never take videos like that as a representation of any sort. That’s very easy way to fall under propaganda narrative. Sure some ppl nice and kind but it still very bad example of how you can falsely believe in something just because someone showed you something that they chose to show you. What works the best is your own experience with ppl, working or living with them and those ppl should be from different social circles. And only after that you can say that you understand at least little bit
@stormy_awys15 күн бұрын
@@beDIFF-ERENT So, did YOU dive deeper, have you lived there? I'll say that the positive opinions given in the video are basically the general opinion of the youth and even the older generation, older generation are just more like realists; someone there is more irritated at the world issues, someone else is more kind and undisturbed. Second, I don't understand where the propaganda lies there, lmao. The guy just really asked bypassing people and that's all. I suppose you didn't even dive deeper as you've suggested, because it would very hard not to notice that Russians are in general very kind and welcoming people. Like, you really sound like you yourself just didn't watch anything about Russia, and then there you are, surprised by their kindness. Also, don't perceive Moscow as something different from the whole rest of Russia, people there generally have the same infofield around them and have the same level of their maturity to have similar opinions; even the town streets look all the same, and for me personally some cities are even nicer than Moscow. (The social circle in the video is the lower-middle one btw, which is very huge. Meanwhile poor young people are more prone to be liberals (that's kinda logical) instead of being 'neutral'. Liberal ones would say "I hate Russia")

About everyone hating the US "during the cold war". No. Both sides were fed propaganda. I don't know what the Russians were thinking. But we in Eastern Europe knew that we were fed propaganda. So we didn't believe it. It seems to me that in Britain, in the US, people believed the propaganda. I have recently seen a video in which Russians in Moscow were asked by a Russian "what do you know about Finland?" Most of it was positive, mainly about the art and architecture, Finns themselves were pleasantly surprised as they had not expected it.

I also was always confused how western Europeans blindly believe their propaganda! I was in the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Czechia and Finland. America is not the entire world, and neither is most of Europe. If Americans traveled to Russia, they would discover many things they couldn't get in America, and that's exactly what those in power are afraid of: no homelessness, better safety, and better healthcare. In America, I had to wait 7 months to see a specialist. My friend in Russia (the Moscow region) saw the same one the NEXT DAY at a private clinic. It cost her 10 dollars to see the specialist, and she was better in a week and that is the rule, not an exception for private clinics. My retired relative gets to study languages, play sports, and learn computer skills, all free of charge in Russia; transportation is free for retirees, even on some trains, and, of course, free healthcare. Yes, some specialists at government clinics have 2-4 month waiting lists but it is still better than in America when you pay 2.5K insurance premiums per year and only get worse and worse because there is NO preventative care in America and too much greed.

As a Russian who has lived in Russia for 64 years :), I must explain this video :).To be honest, the very question "which country do you dislike" is not posed correctly for the Russian ear. And that's why ALL the Russian people in this video answered this question superficially.They kind of decided not to amend a rather ridiculous question for them. Which country don't you like? - Japan - Why Japan - Doesn't like their culture. In the answer itself, the young man can see that he does not like ONLY the CULTURE of Japan, but not the whole of Japan. Which country do you dislike - Kazakhstan - Why Kazakhstan? - Because there is a bad president there - As you can see, we are talking ONLY about the president, but not about "the whole of Kazakhstan"....But most Russian people answered - they like all countries - thus they did not want to go deeper into the "political system" of all states :). They just said they liked ALL NATIONS.And they ONLY talked about the people.Do you understand? :)....The fact is that in the consciousness of a Russian person there is ALWAYS an understanding that the people and the GOVERNMENT governing these people are completely different things. For a Russian person, ANY nation is beautiful, but the power of this people can be criminal, bloody, terrible. If the respondent had put the question differently - In which country of the world do you dislike the government of this country? - then, with 100% probability, the answers would be completely different. And I can, based on my life experience, guess what the answers would be. Almost ALL of the respondents would answer that they do not like the authorities of Western Europe and the United States - Why, do you not like the government of these countries? - And now guess, Westerners, the most popular answer. Do you know how these Russians would respond? Do you think they would answer that the West is ruled by villains?That the West is ruled by criminals and thieves?That the West is ruled by hypocrites, liars who dream only of their own power? Yes, Russia is probably the most hated country in the Western Europe and North America - although Israel isn't far away (this has nothing to do with the Russian or Israeli peoples, or religion, is just caused by their governments actions and policies). In the entire world, however, the US is certainly the most hated country, followed by Israel. And then a few others, depending on the region / continent. Again, that has not much to do with the people in the countries and much more to do with their governments.

In my experience, it is a huge shock to Russians that no one outside the country used to pay them any mind. It's only since they invaded a neighbour whose boundaries and sovereignty they signed a treaty to protect, killed and tortured civilians on a major scale and keep attacking civilian housing, schools and hospitals, that people do. And surprisingly, it hasn't made them any friends...
@WretchedEgg52812 күн бұрын
@@wessexdruid7598 Your imagination is pheomenal. 👏 Say, what "experience" do you realy have? Have you ever even seen a Russian with your own eyes before, or only on YT/TV? Who invaded whom? Eastern Ukrainians voted for independence and Kiev sent the army. In order to stop the prolonged civil war and defend the Crimea, Russia signed a mutual defense treaty with the republics of Donbass. Ukraine kept shelling them anyway, ignoring the warnings. It always was Kiev, who was killing and torturing civilians, attacking housing, schools and hospitals. There are videos of it, documented proof, yet westerners still ignore it. That's why the civil war started in the first place. When Russia does it, it's only for a single reason. It's no longer a "school"/"hospital" etc, but the barracks for soldiers or a munition storage place. A legitimate military target. You can easily find a video on YT, where a merc says how they were stationed inside the church, because Russians don't like blowing them up. Another video, where Ukrainan soldiers sleep in a kindergarden, then at school gym. When they say that civilian appartment got wrecked, it's either for the same reason, or due to the Ukrainian anti-missile missiles falling down, which gets recognized, but Russia still gets blamed for it. It's all for the sake of publicity, to get more support and spread hate for Russia. "All is fair in war" they say... The Maidan coup was dumb, bloody and unfair. Imagine voting for a president, he wins, and then some extremist traitorous schm*ks get foreign agents help to overthrow him. Wouldn't you want to leave the country, with your house and the land, and let them boil in a separate pot, with their "new rules" and all that? In the end, it's just a proxy war between the US and Russia. Part of the ongoing WW3. Ukraine itself didn't do much wrong, except for being weak, and allowing the "revolution" to happen. Everything after that is not Ukraine. Ukraine died back then in Maidan fire. This new monster is just a country-sized US military base. No independence, no souvereignity, no care for its own people. Kinda like every NATO country, except far worse. That's what Russian perspective is like, not whatever bs you imagine for the sake of justifying your hateful views. Ukraine can never win, because it no longer exists. Russians don't hate it for that same reason. And for that same reason, lots of Russians hate the US. The government, not the people. Hopefuly Trump is slightly more sane, than the most of them.

LGBT is a political tool to influence other countries,LGBT minorities should not have any rights,they destroy traditional values and reduce the population by not wanting to breed,denying nature that there are two genders. In Russia the government knows this and that's why this shit is banned, that's why conservative people respect Russia, only stupid liberals don't like it, come Trump, America will turn into Russia, maybe Russians will respect America, but only when America stops destroying it. And yes there is no such thing as good and evil people,there is no such thing as white and black in the world,this is stupid infantile thinking and the influence of propaganda on people

I'm Russian and I don't like the US government. it, like an annoying fly, is constantly trying to get into some corner of the world, and God forbid, some poor country wants to defend its opinion, a “democratic revolution” will immediately take place there. on the other hand, the American diverse biomes are fascinating, ancient redwoods coexist with deserts and crocodiles and mountains and so on and so forth, a competent economy. There are, of course, contradictory points. the cities are too heterogeneous, in some places it’s heaven on earth, in others it’s as if the apocalypse has happened (judging by the video from LA). people are also too different, there are normal blacks, there are those who join gangs, the same with Latinos, maybe I seem like a racist, but isn’t this an objective truth that has developed due to historical circumstances? in general, America is an interesting country, but I would be afraid to visit it, in case I say something wrong, I end up somewhere in the wrong place and that’s it, I end up either in court or with a bullet in my stomach. This is my opinion, of course I’m judging superficially and I could be wrong, but why else are comments needed if not to express an opinion

I think this is a very delicate question to ask in this country. The older generation may, as you said, be influenced by the past and possibly more aware of potential consequences. Younger people have maybe travelled a bit more ( a few years ago) and until recent years maybe had more access to outside influences. However, under the current circumstances, i think all media all over the world are pushing their political point of view. I think, however, the younger generation may be more aware of this but have to control their words. So, you know how most Americans live in American bubble. Well, it's the same with Russia - most Russians live in a Russian bubble. It's an interesting coincidence, I think. Some concepts about Americans that are the basis of jokes funnily well translate into Russian if you switch American with Russian, especially the suspicion to "Un-Americannes" and monolingualism.
@ingemarsjoo454218 күн бұрын
In discussions with friends I have always pointed out the strange similarities between american culture and russian culture. This baffles them, they have never thought about it this way. It is a) the feeling that their country has a special mission in the world, that differs it from other countries, 2) the travel. Both countries are very big, Russia has 11 time zones. Many american books, like Jack Kerouacs "On the road" is very much about crossing USA by car. In the same way many traditional russian novels are also about travelling long distances, but in their case by train, 3) The childhood. In many of Stephen Kings books the childs experiences and world wiews is central. In the same way the russians seemes to have a fixation with childhood. The child is regarded as "innocent", contrary to the grown ups. I could probably go on and on with more examples. Personally, as an west european, I have a certain scepticism to both american and russian culture. Neither country is that mature that they can claim a "special mission". They should both mind their own business for at least another hundred years.

And one of the main representatives of the Kremlin regime, Dmitrij Medvedev (who acted as a prime minister and president, in the period when Putin switched for four years from being a president to being a prime minister), one of the main accomplices of Putin - in his social media in the recent time was writing many threats towards Japan. @ertalt33316 күн бұрын
It's a wrong impression, you would be surprised how popular of a topic politics is in Russia, at least among millennials Russia has a very rich political history, going from an empire into a communist state into a federation, producing lots of propaganda and massive cultural footprint at each step. There were lots of political shows and political music in Russia for the last 40 years, take Egor Letov, who used to be underground in late Soviet era, yet became one of the most influential rock artist among millennials in Russia. A lot of popular tg and vk communities specialize in historical and political topics. Of course, there are lots of people who try to be as apolitical as possible, saying things like "why should I bother if I can't affect anything", which is a common sentiment esp in poor regions, yet school education in Russia puts HUGE emphasis on history and geography, and not quite as often in propaganda's favor. There are many Russians who are very blatant and dull, yet there are lots of very cultured ones, and politics is one of the most generic topics to discuss during the breakfast coffee or a beer-talk
