Traditionally you could only fit the older style automatic transmission systems on cars with bigger engine sizes, something to do with the amount of RPMs needed, and because there's a lot more smaller cars with smaller engine sizes in Europe we just got used to cars being manual transmission, with the modern automatic transmission systems, it's now possible to have automatic transmission on smaller engined cars. However we are slowly moving towards more Electric cars, which don't need a manual transmission.

I far preferred manual transmission, for better traction control on snow, ice, and mountain roads. Then I got old, and infirm, and holding the clutch in in slow traffic jams just became too tiring. So the kind of driving you do makes a big difference. In the city, on dry pavement, automatics are just fine.

It’s also an image issue. Generally in Europe automatic cars are associated with elderly and/or infirm people. If anyone else drives one they are assumed to be lazy and very very uncool. Many people would be embarrassed to admit they drove an automatic car.

Over half of new cars sold in the UK are now automatic. I don’t know if that’s because of the sale of EVs which are always automatic (or semi-automatic with two gears). Either way, projections suggest that the UK market is trending towards the dominance of automatics.

None of the reasons he mentioned in the Video are true. . I have driven all different Transmission cars, but lets say 80% of the time is manual Transmission . And then I drove Automatic and what happens then after I got used to it again , I hit the "clutch" like I used to do in manual Transmission. ^You probably guessed it no clutch in Automatic cars , it was the damn Brake Pedal I hit and everyone in the front row literally hit the dashboard. This happens from time to time . And one reason we drive Manual is , in Germany in driving school you learn driving on manual cars so you can drive both manual and Automatic, if you learn and get tested only on Automatic Cars you are not allowed to drive manual cars
