American Ruger Rifle Review

This is a review of my Ruger American Rifle that I ordered from BudsGunShop.com . I bought the rifle for $364. I also bought a Nikon Prostaff from Walmart for $144. This video addresses some the things I would like to do to the rifle and I'd also like your opinion on how I should quit the action of the bolt.

Take the bolt out and use at least 1000 grit wet/dry sand paper, but 1200 or 2000 grit would be better. Personally the noise doesn't bother me. I hope you tightened those stock screws very tight after you removed them. I like both Vortex and Nikon. I have a few of the crossfire 6-18x44 and they seem good for $180. I recently bought the Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x40 bdc new on ebay for $100 with free shipping. Very good scope for the money.

Cool, I tried using tooth paste on mine and it seemed to smooth out the action really well but still makes the noise. It's not near as loud but is still there. I haven't tried putting any grease on it yet, but I'm sure that would help too. If that doesn't I might try the sand paper. Thanks! Thats a pretty good deal on the scope I thought about buying a used scope but I din't want to run the risk of getting a defective one. I might go that route next time I look to buying one if it has a warranty.

Also, I did tighten the screws after I did that. I just did that so I could reseat the barrel. I also forgot to mention that I cleaned the whole gun inside and out after I was finished.

I think Ruger says those stock screws are supposed to be tightened to 60 inch lbs which is actually a lot. It's basically as tight as the average person can tighten with their hands. I don't know why people care about the noise the bolt makes. I always wear double hearing protection when I shoot so stuff like that never bothers me. I guess if you were hunting the noise might be a problem, but you probably should have already chambered the 1st round before the game was anywhere around you and after you shoot the 1st shot that tiny bit of noise wont matter because the gun shot was a million times louder. I say just leave it alone and use that saved time to go out and shoot some more.

That's a good point. Your right, the first round will already be chambered and it will be a lot louder shooting the gun than reloading it if I was to shoot and still be able to take a second shot. I think it's just personal preference that I'd like it too be smooth and quiet. I also enjoy to fix things my self so I will enjoy doing this.

Well, if you like to fix things and tinker around with things you should consider getting into reloading your own ammo. It's a very rewarding hobby and is actually not hard to do. Some stores like cabelas even offer free classes to teach people how to reload. I reload about a dozen different calibers and even cast my own lead bullets that I powder coat. It's lowered my shooting costs by a lot. Depending on the caliber I can make 10 boxes of ammo in my spare time for the same cost of buying 1 box in a store. Reloading also allows you to make ammo that's more accurate or more powerful than you can buy in the store too.
