There is in fact two movies made about this, the first one "Tungtvannsaksjonen" was made in 1948 and the cast is the actual saboteurs that performed the raid. The second one is "Heroes of Telemark" Starring Kirk Douglas, if I remeber correctly.

The plant was demolished after the war I believe. On its foundations they built a different building. The original basement is still intact and you can still see a good chunk of the damage from the explosion.

Nice, I didn't know about this song. My grandads uncle had medals from his work in the Norwegian resistance but no idea what he did cause his wife would never allow him to talk about it.

Several movies or series have been made: - Operation Swallow: The Battle for Heavy Water (Kampen om tungtvannet), 1948, Norwegian movie. Features many of the avtual saboteurs playing themselves. - The Heroes of Telemark, 1965, British movie. Features Kirk Douglas. - The Heavy Water War / The Saboteurs (Kampen om tungtvannet), 2015, Norwegian-Danish-British miniseries of 6 episodes. My personal favourite.

There is a short norwegian series made about this operation named "Kampen om tungtvannet" or "Heavy water war" in english. It might be difficult to watch it as a non norwegian, as about 50% of the show is in norwegian while the rest is in english and german. If you can find it somewhere i highly recomend watching it. Very well made show.

Every year at christmas, Norway sends britian a Christmas tree that's put up in London, largely as a thanks to Britain for supporting them with the SOE and this event was a large part of that

The first movie is "Kampen om Tungtvannet"(1948). Some of the real saboteures plays in that movie. Shit production, but much more real than the fiction "Heroes of Telemark". Read the books if you want the whole story! Have a nice day :)

Yep. This song is about the Norwegian Resistance tasked with taking down the Norsk Hydro-Electric Tellemark plant where the Germans were producing an astounding amount of heavy water for the construction of their atomic bomb, which although the saboteurs did their job, the Nazis still were able to produce and test at least one tactical nuclear weapon in Thuringia in Northern Germany. Eyewitness accounts recall an intense bright flash and estimates of up to 10,000 POW slave laborers were instantly vaporized in the explosion. Aerial photographs from before and after show the crater and the ground there today is still radioactive from the fallout of the test.

Oh hell yeah. Such an underappreciated song. Drummer's name is Hannes van Dahl, married to the equally famous Floor Jansen of Nightwish. You can also tell because they call out his name several times in the Christmas Truce video.

This song is about the norwegian resistance called the heroes from Telemark who came during the night on skis in the wildernes and blew up the heavy water factory where the Nazis was developing a nuclear weapon. Imagine if the Norwegians didnt succéed and the mission had failed. Hitler would most probably have an A bomb before 1945.

Not the "Heroes" album no, it's off of "Coat of Arms"... also a really good album. So, a lot of mentions of the drummers name, but none how to pronounce it... Hannes (Hun-ess), the 'e' is often lost in english. And also for completeness, "Pär" would be pronounced more like Pair, 'cause the dots...

Fun fact: The words saboteur and sabaton are related. Sabaton is a piece of armor covering the shoe, an old french word. Saboteur comes from the french word sabot, which is a footwear that the original saboteurs used to throw into the machinery to cause them to brake. So in english they should be called shoers. :) Sabot => saboteur and also (almost) sabot => sabaton. This coming from a non french speaker so I might got some detail wrong but the overall idea is true. At least I hope it is. :) And you have pretty much nailed the pronounciation of Joakim, but you are way of on Pär. Ä is not A. :) It should be pronounced similar to the english word pair.
