Innocent are those who think kabbadi is an easy sport to play professionally.😂 The amount of body strength and flexibility you need in kabaddi is just unbelievable. Imagine being one against seven.

No one is saying that its easy lol. Its not easy to be a professional at any sport. That's why they are the professionals, they are the best at what they do. I simply said that I think I could be good at this game. The skills needed fits a lot of what I was good at it when I was younger and playing multiple different sports.

This game was played in a state called Tamilnadu around 3000 years ago by history and may even be older. It was not actually a sport but a war practise for the soldiers. Kabaddi came from "Kai pidi". It was meant to be rough but became a sport later on with rules. Anyways my fav thing about this game is the non stop action, pacing is intense. A fun to watch❤

It is an ancient sport . It is much much older than lot of the contact sports that exists today. That's where the one breath and chanting kabbadi part comes from. Not needing any equipment made it a great training exercise for armed forces on field. Best part about this sports is no equipment required, neither a ball nor a glove or anything, traditionally it is played with bare foots so no one could crush someone's foot accidently or as a precaution, u just need an empty garden, or a ground with soft layer of sand so no one gets hurt, In schools we used to finish our lunch quickly in 5 minutes or even before the Lunch starts and just go in the group draw 2 rectangles using a stick and Play, cost of 0 penny but full enjoyment and health boost

No clothing lasted more than a couple of days. Miss those days and those friends.

The defenders ( whose job is to tackle the raider) usually playing in both corner position and 1 or 2 in the middle positions among 7 players . The defenders hold the wrist of the guy next to him , so that he can form a chain to tackle the raider or dash him out of court and if he wants to hold the ankle or waist of the raider he can quickly leave the wrist of his partner and attack the ankle or waist of the raider, that's is why they are called a chain tackle or a solo tackle

@@RealFansSports not exactly..all defenders who have touched the raider in pursuit of tackling him will be out..(irrespective of whether the raider touched the defender or not) In simpler words..a touch is a touch if a defender touches the raider or raider touches the defender before he crosses midline To counter this what defenders do is..when one defender tackles the raider..they tend to hold the defender without touching the raider..so if at all raider reaches the midline..only that defender will be out who is in direct contact with the raider but this is instinctive and the defenders need to make a decision whether to tackle directly after the first touch or hold defender..you will understand that while watching in realtime)

Kabbadi is a really old sports. It’s pretty much considered ancient (4000yrs old) compared to current modern sports, thus why it has a childhood game vibe ( older children’s games come from such sports) and it has that kingdom vs raider vibe. The breath hold is so that the players don’t stall. You have till you run out of breath to score a goal or get back to safety. It adds a bit of desperation and ensures the game doesn’t drag on.

Holding hands of partner player also help the defender when he tries to save himself from the raider so take back steps and might lost his balance so he can use his partner to support him to save him from going in the lobby area or out or cross the end line in the back.
@SriramIyerNanu24

The bonus point rule is that when your foot crosses the bonus line, the other foot must be in the air. The foot will obviously touch later, but at the point of impact, the rule is that other foot must be in air. As for holding hands, it is a strategy. When a raider is trying to touch the defenders, the can go back only till the endline. But by holding hands, the player can use the other person as a pole and lean even more back without going outside. If you see more videos, you'll understand that. Also notice how they hold hands, they don't hold palms. One person, usually the inside one, gives his hand and the other person holds the wrist area. And a thing you might find interesting is kabaddi name is derived from Tamil words 'Kai pidi' meaning 'hold hands'. Although that isn't the actual game, its a fun fact.

There are evidences available for Kabbadi being played in Iran (Persia) in 2000s to 2500s. So really nobody can tell how it started , but there are instances of Kabbadi & HUTUTU (Man's game) , Sattgotti & KHOKHO (Child's game) being played in Mahabharata's detailed texts. So yes it is ancient.

@@RealFansSports He brought that up because that is how this game has been played for thousands of years. It is only now that competitive Kabaddi is being played like a modern sport and that the need for more "fair" rules was felt and they switched from the breath rule to the time rule. This game is older than Yoga, and since Yoga itself is at least 6000 years old, that makes this game older than that. Although the academic debate on how old it is is still on, academia has concluded that it is at least 4000 years old. Ancient Hindu Epics describe the Gods playing this sport thousands of years prior to even that era, so some even believe it has been around for around 10,000 years. And the breath rule is how it has been played for literal millennia. In fact, if you see the Pro League raiders carefully, they do chant the word Kabaddi repeatedly out of force of habit. Even I was completely unaware of this time rule instead of breath rule system until I saw the Pro League for the first time.

The other sport you were talking about is other version of Kabbadi called circle Kabbadi very popular in Northwest India and Pakistan. In this game only one defender can tackle raider not the team and the mid line is very far away. Much more difficult much more physical.

i have played kabaddi in fierce competitions and it was serious to me and let me tell you it's not a kid's play at all. it's a very serious game you have to play tricks and mindgames with your opponents all the time you're playing doesn't matter if you're on defending side or an attacker.

Oh yeah ofcourse. I think a lot of people are misinterpreting what we are saying. We are saying it reminds us of a school yard game. Ofcourse the games have serious strategies when you play it competitively. That goes the same as with playing tag, or dodgeball as a kid and then playing it in a league.

We can breath while we chant what i think is its to make the sport more disciplined.As the raider enters the court opponents start sledging if the raider start replying them with mouth situation will be hostile.

When you look for kabaddi results on KZbin, you seem to get two kinds. One of them is this kind of "arena kabaddi" which is played indoors, has a middle-class looking audience including some women, and often has commentary in English. The other kind is an outdoor sport with a larger field, which can be either grass or sand. The players do not wear shirts, and the audience is entirely male and tends toward Indian clothing, and some matches have a lot of people in Sikh turbans. The clothing is the "Persian" Indian kind, like maybe the matches are in Punjab or Rajasthan. The second type is predominant in videos from the US and Canada.

the indian government have set aside jobs for those that are good at kabaddi but dont make the pros. this encourages a lot of people in the country to get good at this sport. In one word if I were to describe the sport, it's heroic. 1 vs 7. It's ancient. The buddha played it. Everyone in south india played it growing up like kick ball in the states. There are a ton of moments in kabaddi that are fun and exciting to watch because it's 1 vs many. the rounds are short. it's even more accessible than soccer (football) because you dont need a ball. There's also a japanese anime about kabaddi that's quite good. Once this gets in the Olympics, it will grow even more.
