Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

💸 🤗 I hope there is more to come!! I do have a question though... My kids can't have access to youtube... Is there some way to download your new definitions/videos so I can pass them along without KZbin? I have always used your gifs for them, but your new video definitions & lessons are really good and more thorough but they can't see them with any sort of KZbin connection... Does your superdisk have the new videos?? Thanks for any help you can provide!

This is great! Thank you for posting these lessons. I would love to see all of the videos redone with students who are as competent as this group. It makes learning ASL so much easier and more enjoyable.

Trevor, If I did an "ASL 1" (beginner-level) video with a student from "Lesson 54" the student would be bored out of their mind. The competency of the student needs to match the competency of the level for the instruction to work as well as it does. If the student is "too" competent then the beginners in the audience can't keep up. Many students have commented that they "like" learning along with the student in the video. If the student in the video is already "competent" in the language the "audience" would not have the same experience. However, feel free to expand on your comment. I'm certainly open to suggestions to improve the channel. - Dr. Bill

Hey Bill! Would love to know the "behind the scenes" of this class - with whom are you signing when you're seeking alternative or confirmatory signs? From context it appears maybe you're signing with deaf individuals? We love your videos so much, thanks for all you do!

Brad, During my time at Sac State I had an open-door policy for Deaf and/or other teachers to come visit my classes. I always loved it when they took me up on the offer because it allowed me to indulge in one of my favorite obsessions: Seeing what others sign for various concepts. Just yesterday someone mentioned that they sign MAINE a certain way and I ended up spending a huge chunk of my day tracking down how people *actually* sign it. Turns out about 90% do it on the dominant upper chest area but enough do it on the non-dominant chest area that I'd consider both versions to be acceptable but the dominant side to be "recommended." www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/m/maine.htm Anyway, as far as who is sitting at the back of class (in the video) for that section -- I can't say for sure BUT I'd bet a dollar it was either Michelle or Donovan Heathington -- both of whom were picking up their BA degrees around that time via Sac State (if I recall right) and are now working as (wonderful) ASL teachers. Again though, it might have been some other visitor or visitors.

Is this a remake of lesson 54, or a separate lesson 54 based on a level such as level 4? Looks like I'm not ready for this level. At times, I miss much due to the speed and unfamiliar signs.

Eh? The vast majority of my in-person / in-class students are female. Typically the few fellows in class do not tend to volunteer. This semester has been the opposite! Lots of guys and many of them volunteering. Not sure which video you are referring to in regard to comments being turned off. I do have the "approval" option set for most videos to prevent inappropriate or offensive comments.
