It's funny seeing that café in Nashville, it has a typical décor of a laid back Aussie café, glad you liked the Sausage roll, it's more of a gourmet one than a regular sausage roll, good to see you like the coffee, Australia inherited it's "real" coffee from the Italians when they started migrating here, thank god we did, as we now have some of the best coffee anywhere, keep a look out for Campos if you can find it over there, it's a very nice product ☕☕☕

Well, yes and no. The espresso - fully Italian, yes. But in Italy, coffee is small and black, black, or black, in most cases during the day. Coffee with milk is considered more of a desert style coffee, maybe after dinner. Australia and N.Z. were the first countries to specialise in and make an art of milk based coffees we have today. I remember drinking a cappuccino in Europe, no thanks... The Flat White came from Australia/N.Z.

As a Melbournian, the open warehouse, industrial aesthetic is very authentic. That’s a homemade sausage roll - I make them for my family just about every week! Edit - after reading the comments in this thread about the sausage roll, let me help clarify a few things. I’ve been making home made sausage rolls for decades because I’m celiac, so if I want a sausage roll (I’m not giving them up), I have to make them myself. Sausage rolls in Australia are normally made with sausage meat. Yours looks made with mince beef, probably because you can’t buy sausage meat there. That’s why it tastes similar to meat loaf. I’ve also made home made meat loaf for decades. Here, you can mix sausage meat and minced beef together for meat loaf. It’s hard to tell, but even the pastry could be home made. Not sure if you sell off-the-shelf puff pastry in the States. I’d say they’ve made it from scratch. So here we have a USA based Aussie cafe getting their food as close as possible to authentic Aussie food while being somewhat restricted by on-hand resources - good on them!

I'm a pommy barsteward not an aussie but that's not what a typical sausage roll looks like here in the UK, usually they're longer than they are wide, like an actual sausage(usually with the skin removed but not always) wrapped in pastry. That's a sausage roll is a sample. So small 😂 You need to have a whole one. In paper bag and yeah anyone's coffee will beat a American percolated coffee. Flat white is Aussie recipe, but is made out of a real espresso coffee machine, that's why it's better. Sausage roll is the poor man's Aussie pie. Pie is what you need to be looking for 😉 But you must choose the right ones. Straight chunky steak is good start. Steak and kidney, or mushroom is best. Potato "heaps of mash on some mince" chicken veg is a watery rip off usually. And never get a pepper steak or curry. They never good as they sound.😅 Some exotic ones like kangaroo or seafood are good. But you must try plain steak meat pie first 😋

Glad you liked them. Of course there are a million different coffee and sausage roll flavours as there are stars under the sky. Traditionally sausage rolls are longer and thinner, more like a skinless sausage wrapped in pastry. But that one did look nice.

Do Melbourne people have an inferiority complex? I live just over the border in NSW and have been advised all my life by Melbournians how the best fish 'n' chips come from Melbourne and the best coffee comes from Melbourne, the best restaurants are in Melbourne etc. Says who? Do you honestly believe there would be coffee experts travelling the world's villages, towns and cities judging coffee? Why would anyone do that? Think about it. I've travelled a fair bit myself and the best fish 'n' chips I've had was in Dublin, Ireland and the best coffee was in Milan, Italy and yes I have spent a lot of time in Melbourne.

Last time I was in the U.S I couldn't find a decent cup of coffee anywhere. When I came back to Sydney Australia I had a 2 hour layover to my connecting flight to Adelaide. I went straight to the airport coffee shop and ordered a large flat white coffee. Brought tears to my eyes. I then ordered an Aussie meat pie with Rosella tomato sauce. I was home and I was happy.

Ya haven't had a snag roll till ya have the normal long thinner ones from a good bakery. Comes in a paper bag that the oil makes see through, with or without a squeezy sauce and the pastry flakes off all over the joint . Yummmmmm.

No idea how this showed up in my recommended, but glad I saw it. I'm a Melburnian living in Japan. I will visit the US later this year most likely. Nice to see there exist some home comforts :) Thanks for trying and hope you can try more. By the way, I think that sausage roll is just one style. The style which I normally prefer and see more commonly in Australia has more pastry and less meat. You might prefer that, too, if you dislike meatloaf, as it makes it a bit lighter in my opinion.

I'm a Melbourne girl and that menu looked legit! Converting the prices to AUS$ it looks like they stung you with some genuine Melbourne pricing too, ouch! The sausage roll looked like a proper country bakery roll, one of my all time favourites 🥰 Though US$7 would get you the whole roll in Australia, it looks like they chopped it into quarters for a serving size. Great way to serve it though, as the end bits are always the best part of the roll IMO, with all that crispy caramelistion and you would have that with every bite. Yum!!

Maaaate, as a Melbournian it's a treat to watch you enjoy a "Melbourne flat white". The thing about coffee that if it's properly prepared with good beans it has a natural sweetness (not overpowering, but it's there). Bitter coffee signals burnt beans. I wonder where they got proper tomato sauce in USA... Imported? Anyway, happy you guys enjoyed it. Try the meat pie next time. 😂😂

That sausage roll looks better than anything I've seen at home LOL. I think our love of coffee comes from the Italian/European influence we have. I always thought US coffee was better (though not having tasted it) than Aussie coffee. It wasn't until I got older that I heard that US coffee is just strong, bitter grounds. Australian coffee is constructed with care and love. Strong, yet not bitter.

That sausage roll looks more gourmet than what you’d get at a servo (they’re longer and thinner and the pasty is softer). You’d probably get something like that at a cafe here so that’s pretty authentic. 😉 Our coffee is so good. I haven’t tried Starbucks yet (apparently there’s one in Melbourne) but if it’s more watered down than our typical Aussie coffee, nuh uh, no thanks. Double shot cappuccino *chef’s kiss*
