but it is called American village because it's a part of a land reclaimed from when the US military was occupying it (50% of Chatan is still occupied by Americans anyway)...they wanted to revitalize the area and set this up as a tourist spot...it is not trying to represent an actual American village...they just tried to model it after outdoor shopping malls. But anyway, it's next to huge military bases and so it's always full of actual Americans.

Okinawa looks nothing like it was when I lived there in 1970 - 1973. There was a lot of open space, farming, and rural driving roads. The few small beaches had no sand, just coral rock and we had to wear sneakers to avoid cutting our feet while swimming. Now Okinawa looks like Japan. I'm very glad to see your video and details of what it looks like now. I wouldn't recognize anything. It would be like visiting a brand new place. It is beautiful nonetheless, and the ocean is always breathtaking. Thank you for showing us these modern Okinawan places.

A lot of joggers, skateboarders and surfers, some bars and restaurants but not as many as where you are and it’s more for locals and Americans. I always go there when I visit Okinawa. Not necessarily for any particular reason, just cuz it's a place to grab some food lol. I do like the arcade they have there though. Lots of crane games. The spam musubi place they have along the boardwalk ocean side is really popular. Pretty sure it's the same one that is at the exit terminal of the airport. Got the goya spam musubi when I went last time, since I never had it before. It's tempura-styled goya with it. They managed to remove nearly all of the goya taste, which my friend said wasn't how it normally is, so I think I still have yet to have the goya experience lol. Next time you go Okinawa Shinichi, you really should try this chicken and waffle place called CC's Chicken and Waffles. The fried chicken was absurdly good. I have no idea how they made it so good lol. Definitely a lot of the US military folks going there too. Not to mention my absolutely favorite burger place ever, Captain Kangaroo. You might as well head to the aquarium if going out there, since it's very far north of the island. If the burger place is busy, they just give you a call to let you know when your table is ready. You can just wait out at the beach behind the restaurant in the meantime. It's a really awesome location, just sadly very far out of the way lol.

Random thought, I'm intrigued by how people park their cars in this part of Japan. I thought that everyone parks in reverse in Japan, so it's easy to get out of the parking spot. Maybe, since Okinawa used to be an American territory, some people park the American way (park into the spot, then back out of the spot), while other people park the Japanese way (park in reverse, then drive forward out of the spot).
