There's a good video on KZbin called 'Cricket explained for baseball fans" which explains the game really well - worth having a look at. This video would have made a lot more sense if you'd seen it first! :) Only the wicketkeeper (= baseball catcher) has gloves. That "out of bounds line" is the boundary. If the ball had landed beyond it it would been six runs (= a home run). Those sticks are the stumps - if they're broken while the batter is out of his ground then the batter is out.

It's obvious you can get confused. How can u understand this video without knowing any rules? Lol first know the rules & then watch the game. There are plenty of cricket explanation videos on youtube.

The sticks are called stumps. If the bowler hits them, the batter is out (no strikes). Also if the ball hits the batter, but would have hit the stumps, he is out too. He must use his bat. The rope on the outside is the boundry. If batter hits ball over it, then it's 6 runs (runs = points). If the ball hits ground then goes over the ropes then it's 4 runs. The white lines across the pitch near each of the stumps is called a crease. The batter needs to stay behind the crease to be safe during play. The batter can also score runs by hitting the ball and running to the other crease, this is 1 run. The fielder can get the batter out, by throwing the ball and hitting stumps, before the batter makes it to his crease. There's heaps more rules, but that covers most questions from this vid.

I'm affraid you chose a difficult video to watch for your first try at cricket. The ball is slightly harder than a base ball and a tad smaller. It is not baseball so you needn't keep viewing it with that in mind. This sport is much older the baseball and played throughout the rest of the world.
