These guys aren't just old school. They are pioneers of the genre. They got LL Cool J his shot. I grew up listening to these guys. First album was 1986. Paul Revere, The New Style, No Sleep Till Brooklyn, Shake Your Rump, Pass The Mic, Sure Shot, 3 MC's and 1 DJ. Too many bangers to list. I've said this before but it bears repeating: it is not by accident that when the Beasties were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they were presented by LL Cool J and Chuck D.

I agree with the Boys being in the HOF, but how do you feel about them putting people in it who have never even been close to rock?
@ritomase814 ай бұрын
@nakmuay7705 rock 'n' roll is a lifestyle, not just a genre. Hip-Hop has its place, especially with Gen-X and Millennials, as we grew up prominently at the same time as Hip-Hop.
@chrisd70474 ай бұрын
I don't have a big problem with non-rockers being in the Rock HoF provided they have sufficient respect from the rock community. Dolly Parton is a good example. Aretha Franklin is another, though I guess it can be argued that Aretha was at least a little bit of a rocker in her time. Same for Johnny Cash. I don't know of artists who are in the RnR HoF who never got anywhere near rock. I would probably object to N'Sync being inducted, to give an example. Or Conway Twitty. But this is a little bit like defining porn: I can't tell you what it is, but I know it when I see it. While Dolly didn't perform much Rock on her own, her songs have been covered as rock songs. And being the great ambassador for good people that she is, she feels like a worthy inclusion to me. Frank Sinatra, otoh, doesn't have any rock bona fides that I'm aware of. Even though he's just as big a legend as Dolly, he shouldn't be in the RnR HoF (and I don't think he is). Hopefully that answers the question.

@@MegaChagus Credit where it's due, Mario Caldato Jr engineered Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty, co-producing the last three. He's mentioned in the first line before Watcha Want begins "To Mario C-you can't front on that." Arguably one of the best things about the Beastie Boys is that they were top tier collaborators and didn't do it all - From getting the Dust Brothers to make the tracks for Paul's Boutique, to working with Money Mark (who also helped build their studio), DJ Hurricane, Biz Markie, Mix Master Mike, etc etc. Mario Caldato jnr also toured extensively worldwide with Beastie Boys during Check Your Head and Ill Communication, and mixed their live sound.

Beastie Boys 1978-2012. They heard Spoonie G, Curtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, the Furious Five in 1976-79 and the two bands (YOung and the useless/Beastie Boys) melded together into one rap group before rap was known about outside of the Bronx and Brooklyn. They were there from the beginnings of the genre, along with Run DMC, Rick Rubin, and Russel Simmons, they started the Def Jam label with the BIGGEST SELLING RAP ALBUM OF ALL TIME. and ThE FIRST RAP ALBUM TO SELL PLATINUM. THey took rap from a couple boroughs and gave it to the world on tour with Madonna, Run DMC and Public Enemy in their first big tour (7 years after starting) in 1987. Run DMC are the kings of rap, and the Beasties are the crowned princes.
