Americana Chicken Growth | One Day To One Week Old. We just received five Americana chicken chicks. We wanted to document their growth, through to adulthood. This video shows day old chicks as well as one week old chicks. The growth is incredible!

Sweet chicks! I'll be adding a new breed to my flock too. In a few weeks I'm getting 6 Belefelder hens and 1 rooster. One of my Barred Rocks is broody and has at least 12 eggs under her. Some of the eggs are donations from my Bresse and Orpington . Soon I'll be up chick creek! 😊

I swear that you can sit and watch the wing feathers grow. It is amazing how fast they shoot out! Can't wait to see your vids on the Bresse. I've heard they are tasty birds. Are you growing them for eggs or meat? Either way, it'll be interesting to learn a new bird! Cheers Lisa!

Beautiful! Those will be some great birds for your hen house! Interesting how the cross breeding affects the birds so much. I got a dozen Ameraucana' back in Feb. Learned the hard way I should have listened to the breeder to only use a heat lamp, no heat plates and I lost two chicks before getting a lamp. :( But they are very slow growers. Slow to pin out, slow to gain weight. I got Blue Copper Marans a week before them and today the Ameraucana' are half their size. Super charged with energy but very sweet birds. Almost fearless little boogers that love digging around through the woods for food. They don't leave a leaf unturned! Very good foragers.

I have read there are two breeds. One is pure (Ameraucana) and the other is not (Americana). We got the Americana. It'll be interesting to see how they grow, compared to yours. Ours are keeping pace with the ISA Browns. Thanks for adding your insight! Cheers!

The Americana is just a name coined for a cross between an Ameraucana and any brown egg layer to create an Americana (Easter egger). It's not a recognized breed. Kinda like the Starlight that's a cross with the Cream Legbar and brown egg layer to also make an "Easter Egger". I'll be making crosses eventually with my Copper Marans for Olive / Easter Eggers.

I'm all about production. I want numbers and LOTS of eggs. Holly wanted cute eggs so we got the Americana. I think they will be blue and green eggs. A novelty for our customers (and for Holly). Cheers Bryce!

I’m with Holly. I love that breed. They’re clever and have fun eggs. I’ve got some welsummer chicks right now for the chocolate brown eggs. They lay significantly less than some breeds but I thought the pretty eggs are worth it.

We have Welsumers and really love their egg color. They lay a more terracotta color, some are lighter than others. They do stop during winter, but are very winter hardy. But don’t expect them to be lap chickens. They’re very independent and great foragers! We also have a Welsumer rooster, but he lost his comb and ginormous waddles to frostbite in January. He looks like he joined the marines now. 😊🐓

@@primitivedaisy Ha! A Marine Rooster! That's all we'd need! I've heard the Americanas are great foragers and not lap chickens. We'll have the ISA's for that! It'll be interesting to see the egg colors when they start laying. Have a great weekend!
