Wilson Nesbitt Walker was my great, great grandfather from my fathers side! 😍🥰 We have an amazing photo of him as well that I used for one of my school reports about the Civil War when I was little. I love this! When he was wounded on the battle field they thought he was dead & it wasn't until the next day when troops came to collect the dead, they found he was still alive. Such an amazing story. Later, my father fought as a combat medic in the Vietnam War and was wounded in the head much like his great grandfather.

Hey little sister! That was awesome; It gave me God bumps! I'd like to try to get ahold of Dr. Hodges to see where he received the photo and the information. (Now that we're moving to Alabama maybe we could find some long lost cousins and you, Jay, and the girls could come up and visit for a family reunion!) ... Ps, The fact that our Daddy - Wilson Walker's Great Grandson - was also wounded in the head during battle, receiving a Purple Heart even, didn't escape me either!

I’m from Fort Oglethorpe! ( shares the park with chickamauga! I wish I knew y’all were there! I would LOVE TO MEET YALl! I’ve been blessed to be raised in such a thick, and rich history area! Many of my relatives fought right here!

I would like to know the name of the book that Gary held and referenced thru the video. I had a great grand uncle captured at this battle , 49th Ohio Infantry, and was sent to Andersonville Prison Camp. I would love to read it and hopefully visit where he fought and was taken prisoner, thank you for all that you folks do to keep America’s history alive! Great video as always ❤️

Absolutely great video. I was brought here looking for visual insight into a Diary I am reading written by William Bluffton Miller, Co K, 75th Indiana Infantry, here is an excerpt... "We moved perhaps two miles and filed off to the left of the road and layed down while the battle raged in our front. We are now in reserve and are to support or reinforce any part of the line that may give away. We were in this position for some time and then went off by the right flank took a circle and halted at the road facing East. About 11:00 AM the 1st Kentucky Infantry was pressed so hard they gave way and left a part of Battery “F” 1st Ohio Artillery exposed to capture the rebels charged and came for their artillery. Our command was “Fix Bayonets” and the race was on for the guns one of which was fast on a sapling and nearly all the horses were dead and only a few of the men left with their Lieutenant. We got to the battery first broke files around them and met the enemy face to face. They halted and we opened fire and they began to waver and finally broke, but our regiment had received a volley from them that left its impression on our ranks, but we followed them up for some distance before they reformed. Then we fought them back and forth over the field or through the woods rather during the day. The rattle of musketry was dreadful and to see the men lying dead and dying on the field and being run over by artillery and lines of men it was perfectly appalling. The first man killed from my company was Andrew J. Harter and he was killed about the time we reached the guns or soon after we crossed the road. There are many incidents of interest on the field that came under my immediate notice some of which should occupy a space here and I will insert some of them. When we passed the battery we rescued they had double shot the guns and the gunman fired them into the ranks of the rebels at short range and they were 3 or 4 lines of battle deep and the shot mowed of road through their ranks that a six mule team might be turned around in them. It was terrible to behold it seemed like they had almost annihilated them. Some were only knocked down from the force of the shot but many of them never left there. I noticed a rebel sitting against a tree near us at one time with a handkerchief tying to try up a wound in his thigh. I merely remember of glancing at him and only a moment after I noticed he was dead. Some random shot had found the vital spot in his body. One place I noticed the colors of some regiment lying and I don't think fifty men dead is an over estimate lying around them. The battle raged all day without ceasing until 5 O'clock when I was struck by a Minnie Ball passing through my right thigh and lodging in my left one." He survived and would return to the ranks many months later.

The story of Walker a 58th Alabama soldier who was wounded and survived, his souvenirs is a minie ball, his hair remained black until his death, He was a self Identified confederate veteran this is interesting how the battles take shape and the memory as stating the historical memory takes shapes

anybody got any info regarding Dardens Battery ( csa)? I'm aware that there is a plaque at the battlefield. bit that's the extent of my knowledge
