I do plan on getting into a proper apprenticeship eventually but I'll be able to use my hours towards becoming a journeyman. literally my only complaint is inconsistency in work as i rarely get more than 30 hours a week. Let me break it down for you looking to get into the trade. If you're not a self motivated, mechanically inclined, adaptable person, be a plumber. Alot of states make you go through school, some 2 years, some 4. Most of these programs are just a way of the state making money. Being in the field IS your education. This does depend on your lead/teacher. Electrical trade is amazing and can do everything from simple service calls to 23k square foot multimillion homes. BUT!, you gotta want it. You will not succeed, if at all, like you can if you dont put forth the effort to learn. Its a art form, just like all the other trades. Eventually you'll tell the difference between a good tradesmen and a jackass. Do your homework on who you hire on with, learn what tools to buy off the start, what you can buy later. The quicker you learn and get a license the more you make, depending on that company. Man the F up. You have to show up everyday and be productive. Its an investment in life. Dont think of it as getting paid, think of it as becoming a more productive citizen, spouse and role model.

He makes it sound like it’s so easy to get an apprenticeship. I’ve been on the waiting list for 3 years for my local union. I’m going to trade school in the fall
@americanelectrician7 ай бұрын
The union slows the process way down but if you want to get into the trade there are other options that are much easier to deal with

I just turned 28 this year, and I am considering this trade. I am interested in this because 1, I love to at least do something with my hands for work and it's meaningful work unlike being in atrophy with desk work. Number 2, it provides great potential of benefits for my financial wellbeing and don't have to worry about going to college because it's so expensive and overwhelming to me, and number 3, I'm somewhat of a diva and I don't think I could be a plumber because I don't think that I could handle something like sewage waste. 😂
@ShutUpBubi2 ай бұрын
Worst part of plumbing is the labor and the heavy cast iron part if you're in new construction you almost never deal with sewage.

Become a technician instead, way less schooling required and higher pay faster. I was an apprentice for a year until I got into Battery Energy Storage and became a tech and now a field engineer. It would’ve taken 4 years of work + schooling to get to the pay level I started at. Now im salaried with huge benefits, basically the apprenticeship might not be right for you but you’ll definitely learn a thing or two.

I live in Ontario Canada and in order to join my local union, it required that I took at least 1 physics course in high school which I have not done and graduated in 2018. I think this field looks super interesting but I am scared about making the commitment to take an online or night course for high school physics course. Any advice someone can please provide.

Not specifically. I would call around and find a company you’re comfortable with. Other than that there are a ton of women electricians who create content that would cover the day to day stuff. Other than that the process should be the same

You’ll be apprentice SAURUS 🦕 . You’ll work a lot in your beginning years and at your 5th year you’ll be sent to the local hall and your hall rat 🐀 days will commence. Remember what I said, I’m gone now. Bow your head.
@Hatim.13 Жыл бұрын
@@Lomdy333 Hello man, if you really decide on what you wanna do in your life then you ll have YEARS on most people! You ll be a millionaire by retirement! Google "IBEW "your city/town", drive there and ask to talk to an organizer and say that you want to apply for the apprenticeship (some locals have online application, others it's in person), you ll need the highschool diploma and a valid driver's license (also a car is a must), apply as soon as you can, you ll be scheduled to take an aptitude test that includes basic algebra and English reading and comprehension (since you re fresh out of highschool I assume it won't be much trouble to do well in it), you ll need to get an average of 4 out of 9 possible score, then if you pass you ll go to the interview phase, you ll be interviewef by a panel of 6 to 8 people (half of them are IBEW leadership and the other half is the contractors), if you convince them that you re serious and this is what you really want, you ll be accepted. Also you can KZbin "Mad Electrician, how to apply for the apprenticeship" he is the best resource on the matter, also shares tips on every step.

@@PeymanSultan-wn6iw Apprenticesauruses are in their 40s and some 50s, early 30s are SUPER common where I am from! Also that hall rat shit is a generalization, first of we don't call Brothers of the IBEW Rats! That is wormy to say. I know people who were not laid off once and they re in their 50s, worked steady ADN overtime during 2008/2009, Covid...I guess it depends on the area, and on your reputation as a worker, which you should do all you can to build and maintain!

How does one apply for an apprenticeship though? Just cold call different companies and ask the receptionist if they do apprenticeship programs. The IBEW local near me isn’t calling me back or answering so I’m out of options. College isn’t really the option right now as I have two kids and rent to pay. Plus everyone says about not doing a trade school due to still needing to do an apprenticeship afterwards.

So I just took mine recently and it reminded me of the SATs in highschool, where you had to bubble in the answer you thought was correct. There was a math section based on Algebra and then there was a reading section and that was all. So I would say make sure you're good on all aspects of Algebra and be able to answer questions correctly based off what you read, hope this helps
