It’s sad. I’m glad I caught this cool cat in 2020. Wish I did sooner but glad I saw the legend. One of my artist of all time. Brian, in his role, not so much the BB tho. I do dig much of their stuff of course, but brain is where it is at for me even more so than his output.

I can understand why Dennis was in awe of his brother Brian is because he thought in ways that nobody else did and he would make each person feel comfortable in their role. Even though Brian knew what he wanted he also allowed his musicians to express themselves and even the slightest mistake would turn into something beautiful and it'd be no longer a mistake.

The Wilson brother's used to come over to my house and sing with my brother. Being 8 years old I hid under the bed and sang with them, but not for long. I will never forget Brian's eyes as he glared under the bed at me and said "Bob, your little brother has got to go" I was ejected big brother style.

I don’t believe he is. I saw him a couple nights ago in concert and it was sad to watch. I l’m seriously hoping the man wants to be touring still, but at shows he just sits there, doesn’t play, and hardly sings. It’s a bothersome sight and one that I hope is his desire, and not someone else’s.

@Fordham19692 жыл бұрын
I would say this is more an example of what an arranger does than what a producer does. If you look at the history of pop record production the role of the producer can be somewhat nebulous, there have been successful producers for example that aren't capable of doing what Brian is doing here. However, most of what we're seeing is precisely what an arranger does, choosing which/how many backing instruments, writing out parts for them to play, choosing a style and tempo, etc....
@whippleLopez2 жыл бұрын
In his hey day Brian was both
@justkelly2 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I think Brian is famous for blending both into a single process. Arranging and producing at the same time. "Playing the studio" as an instrument.
@SeahorsesJay9 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think the general audience needs to be reminded that Brian Wilson here is NOT the Brian Wilson of 1965. At that time, he was very much the producer as well as what you see here which is a conductor/arranger capacity. Of course, he also composed, performed piano, bass and many of the vocal parts and leads.
@TheDilligan7 ай бұрын
The role of the producer really can range. It not uncommon for a producer to be a mix/recording engineer, arrange or at least guide the arrangement of the songs and even write or play instruments on those songs. Many of the greatest producers have done some range of all those things. And that usually comes down to a producer filling out the roles that the artist cannot do themselves in order to get a great record out of the process. Every producer will do that either by doing various tasks themselves or hiring the people who can. One producer might play 4 instruments on the album, write half the songs, place the microphones and mix the track. Another might simply guide the process and hire writers, session musicians and engineers for those parts - depending on what the artist can’t or won’t do themselves / the desires of record executives who are paying for the production.
@mumbles2152 ай бұрын
He’s done the arrangements already (hence the “it can fall apart at the end) but he is in full producer mode here. Instructing the players how to play their parts…is producing.
