So glad you get his humour. Part of being British is we don't (usually) take ourselves too seriously and we can take the piss and receive it without offence being taken. Hope you guys manage to come over here soon but please remember that there's more to this country than London. You will also find the old saying that a hundred miles in Britain is a long way yet a hundred years is just a few moments ago is very true. I'm sure you'll see what I mean. Also avoid coming over in the winter, it's bloody miserable right now!

The Brits take the piss out of themselves more than anyone so only fare that other nations should get a share. All comedy is based on exageration and Al has some very funny and thoughtful performances."How Global Finance Really Works " is one of my favourites.

You might know this already but Al Murray is actually a Oxford educated Historian - the persona he plays he calls the 'pub landlord' - that is to say the manager of a british pub. Stereotypically pub landlords were thought of as being rather pompous, clinging on to notions of British empire/patriotism and a superior attitude to the rest of the world. Al is being sarcastic about that type of englishman who thinks that Great Britain is the centre of the world etc. He writes and delivers it brilliantly and recommend any other clips of his to you. Ironically he has reduced his performances of this character drastically as many people started to think it wasn't an act but he was being serious - also with British politics moving more to the right, including the Brexit referendum etc, his comic character started to become more realistic! Just my personal opinion! Keep up the good work!

You took the "Slings and arrows" well Sir. Al Murray, to me, is the sharpest, to the point, comedian I have heard, of our time. The initial moments in ANY of his routines, when he engages with individuals in his audience is unparalleled. OK, his language is FAR too colourful, but is in character. Sorry to the late, great Robin Williams, who was another comedian with an incredibly sharp brain. Murray takes a subtle swipe at his own too.

A lot of British humour is based on irony and self-deprecation which, it's well known, is often lost on an American audience who can easily misinterpret it as personally insulting to themselves and their country. To launch a tirade of 'abuse' might not be the smartest career move in the world if members of the audience have a sensitive nature, carry guns and have had a few bevvies. :-)

That's true at the moment by a decision from the present government, but the science bodies are cautious that the virus, in all its present and possible future forms, is entirely finished with us. I have have quite a lot of complaints from angry tourists who change there dollars for £50 notes, and get very cross when they want to buy a article costing £1.15 or something of similar value, and find that shopkeepers or ticket sellers don’t have the capacity to give the right amount of charge in the till or float. £20 notes are about the largest used Al Murray doesn’t speak like this when he’s not playingg The Pub Landlordd. Doesn't the American in the audience "Steve" look a helluva lot like Norm in Cheers (George Wendt). 5:48 I've seen this clip a couple of timed before so finally had to mention it! Shame we didn't catch the earlier piece of this clip where Al works the audience. perhaps it's available somewhere. Norm would be 84 now somewhere. I hope he is well. Thanks to King Boomer for bringing this to more people in a great way. I never really watched Al Murray until a few months or weeks ago. Really amazing performer, particularly starting with this performance but the "money" characterisations and audience assasinations are even better. Sound effects, razor sharp wit and audience memory. Staggering. I do think the pub landlord character would initially deter people (like me) from watching it through, but when you are told, or realise, what's behind the idea and what talent is on show, you become hooked. I worry he will now never be raised into the pantheon of greatness which he deserves. (Wow ... I'm poetic this late at night!)

The word 'great' does not refer to any illusions of greatness but rather the main island of Great Britain - to indicate size. The Romans called it 'Britannia Major', the French 'Grande Bretagne' and so on to differentiate between the smaller islands that surround it including 'Eire' to the west. The British Isles is made up of 6,000 islands and 'Great Britain' is the big one - hence the name.

@@KingBoomer They named many cities and towns in this country that remain to this day. As an American person you may be interested in this one as it was the surname of arguably the most famous of your Presidents. I am from the city of Lincoln in eastern England. Prior to the Romans invading the settlement in the area was known as Lindon, after they arrived, the latinized version of the name was Lindum and it in time it became a 'retirement' settlement for legionnaires, and so was given the suffix colonia, so Lindum Colonia. In time as with the vagaries of languages and tongues and human propensity to shorten things, Lindum Colonia became Lincoln, and has remained as such for 1500 years. A place no doubt where the direct ancestors of the aforementioned President hailed from. Hope that was interesting :)

The "Great" in Great Britain comes from the Romans, who used Britannia Magna (Large Britain) for Britain and Hibernia or Britannia Parva (Small Britain) for Ireland. Over time, Large Britain became Great Britain, and the term little Britain got transferred to Northern France - where you'll find Brittany to this day.
