Reminds of of the sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service. It got broadcast worldwide then deaf people started complaining that they didn’t know what she was saying. Turns out she didn’t know sign language at all and was just making it up. Then it turned out she’d been hired before and they’d never had any complaints so thought she must be good 😂😂😂

There is a character on The Fast Show called Different With Boys played by Arabella Weir who is a woman who is assertive and assured when in the company of other women, but becomes coy, giggly and childishly winsome whenever a man enters the room. Linda's virtual triathlon was a joke then, but I'm doing exactly that right now. They're called the Conqueror Challenges. They use your fitness tracker to track your progress and google maps / street view to show you where you currently are in your challenge. You get a real, beautiful, metal medal at the end, and whilst it's not for charity, they plant trees and stop bottles from entering the ocean as you hit milestones. It's getting me out and touching grass anyway. I did my 10k steps today. 😅
@AndrewJonesMcGuire
@AndrewJonesMcGuire 5 ай бұрын
But the questions that have to be asked are - why aren't they planting trees anyway? As for the steps, after 6K it's diminishing returns in terms of how it affects your health, and in fact is more likely to cause joint problems later in life.

He isn't that close to the fire, it is forced perspective. There is space between Roy and the desk. Incredibly common trick, there just is not enough distance for our eyes to pick up that they aren't near each other, the rest is taken care of our brains: people sit near desks, and here we have the fire that is blocking a lot of the view. The fire also is most likely just a line at the edge of the desk.

Objectively, I know there are better candidates in the show's run, but this is my favourite episode. The scene talking about the absurdity of the Sea Parks fire just gets me because of how the actors emphasise their bewilderment (Roy's Irish accent makes his exasperation twice as funny), and the way Jen runs with her improvised Italian never has me in stitches (even the Italian businessman's laughably bad Italian only makes it funnier). So, yes, despite the episode barely using Douglas's trademark comedy, this is the episode that leaps to mind whenever I think of I.T. Crowd. Make of that what you will.

I'd 100% rather drown than die by fire, but then I'd also rather drown than dying in most ways tbh. Drowning is actually a very peaceful way to go, or can be. I almost drowned when I was a kid and it wasn't distressing really, it was actually weirdly peaceful and then I faded into unconsciousness. Drowning due to a whale or shark would be fcking terrifying though. Even pics of sharks with open mouths unsettle me, I'd hate to see that coming at me under water lol.

I'm cracking up like I think you've invented a new philosophical problem that will be debated in classes for generations, akin to the trolley problem, the sea world fire vs killer whale conundrum, some professor like "consider the morality vs. hubris; choosing to die in the fire? considering your fate and the impact on a sentient creature in confinement? Or challenging the beast of the depths? and lo and behold if you did enter the killer whales domain...would you enter into a competition of survival of the fittest? or enter into egodeath; pretend to be driftwood in hope that an aspiring escapee would be befallen a toothy demise in your place?!"

The answer though is obvious - and not the one either of them picked. If the question is specifically about which way to die, and there is no factoring in of the chances of maybe not being killed - then the answer is fire. Drowning is indeed painful, and sound terrifying. Burning to death though, in a particularly intense fire - will be intensely painful, for a very short time, and then you will pass out from the pain, and shortly after - die.
