Filipinos are mostly trilingual. 1st language is where they grew up, 2nd language is Tagalog and the next is English. they use Tagalog mostly to communicate with other Filipinos. English is mostly used in work, making documents, etc. They learn English from early schooling to college. The only thing they are not confident using English to foreigners is because they are afraid to miss pronounce or make a mistake.

In the Philippines there is a stereotype that if you speak English well, it means you came from a wealthy family and studies at a prestigious university. Filipinos from middle class and those who are in the poverty line, understand English but not comfortable to speak it because people around will judge them based on how fluent you are in English. Based from my experiences, I have rich, middle, and unfortunate friends. They all understand English but the difference is their level of confidence is big.

The problem with generalizing, that Filipinos eat dog, is that the statement “Americans eat raccoons and crocodile” would be true - you see what I’m getting here? Or that Americans eat bugs because there is a small community of ppl in Berkeley CA, whites I should mention who practice eating bugs for protein in place of meat. Signed, Filipino born American. And no, I’ve not eaten a dog. Not my family, not anyone I know.

in the northern part of the Philippines especially in the Cordillera mountain tribes as a food source dogs ;because up in the mountains food is a bit difficult to ,a kind of rodent that is found in the rice fields that resembles mice but are closely related to rabbits, beetle that swim in the rice paddies called "ararawan" , ants during the mating season we catch them with plates that are greased so the ants would stick to the plates because its oily; ants in the mating season have wings and fly chasing the queen ant ,crickets during the first rain falls because that's the time that they shed off their old shell so it has soft bodies not hardened yet and then theirs frogs, bayawak (monitor lizards) snakes, bug larvea found in the coconut trees, then balut , seaweeds and lots of other things that God gave us to eat and take advantage off so that we will have something to eat

Third lie: we speak English everyday. It's our second language. Fourth lie: we don't only speak tagalog. We mostly speak Taglish (tagalog-english hybrid) Fifth lie: Yes. We have hundreds of different cultures. It's like each island has at least 1 or 2 diff cultures by themselves. Sixth lie: the stereotypes are true but not the only jobs we do. My uncle is actually a chef in Dubai, so.... Seventh lie: no. We don't have EVERYTHING in THE CITY of Manila. The Manila Metro tho, has most. Eighth lie: it's illegal to eat dogs and it's frowned upon almost everywhere here. Say you are one once and everybody would either never talk to you or avoid talking to you but still be polite. Ninth lie: most just like to travel, I mean, we're all mountains and beaches. No snow. We'd like to experience that at least once. Last lie: only the backalleys are dangerous enough to be considered "dangerous" really.

(1) World's largest Island nation - in terms of total land mass area. Indonesia is the largest Archipelagic Nation in terms of number of islands and territorial area. (2) Woman, or locals in general, are just not confident in speaking straight English with foreigners because the Philippine culture is very critical about proper grammar and pronunciation (even accents) when it comes to speaking in English. So, yes, it's just a matter of confidence. They are just afraid to be judged but once they overcome that, there is no problem. You can communicate with almost anyone, even in the streets, using English. (3) The Philippines has already taken over call-center services from India in most customer service functions (except maybe for tech support, which India still holds). (4) There is already a Law in the Philippines against eating/selling dog meat.

Actually our national language is Filipino. But our medium of instruction in schools is English, and our legal/official documents and communications are written in English. But in spite of that, English is used only in our official communications, business transactions, legal proceedings, legislations, and formal communications. But it is not commonly used by the majority of our people. In our day to day affairs we speak our local dialects which primarily the regional mother tongue i.e. Cebuano which is widely spoken in Visayas and Mindanao; next is Tagalog which is widely spoken in the National Capital Region, & some parts of Central Luzon, and Southern Tagalog Regions; the Ilocano in Northern Luzon; Pangasenense, ; Pampango; Hiligaynon(Ilongo); Waraynon in Samar and Leyte, and Chavacano in Zambianga. Others are ethnic dialects spoken by our cultural minorities i.e. Ibatan, Yakan, Manobo, Tausog, Bagobo etc. In our inter regional communication, we use Filipino which is majority Tagalog based, but it is a combination of English, Spanish, Chinese, and some are regional and local dialects. The reason why other Filipinos are seemingly silent when it comes to communicating in English is because English is our borrowed language which most of us Filipinos cannot express our thoughts/idea that are in our minds because we don't what is its equivalent in English. This happens mostly in the countryside where most of our people who were born up to 70s were not able to finish elementary. It was because our system of education then were concentrated only in the urban areas and in the cities or municipal centers. Unlike these days that there are already high schools even in the remotest area of the country. But in the urban areas you will notice that our countrymen are so expressive and even opinionated. It is because most of them are educated, and so they can express their feelings because they have learned how to use the English language properly. One thing that I would like to share to you is this: Filipinos can accept if you speak grammatically incorrect in our national language, but never in English because it seems that it is a crime for them to speak wrong grammar in English especially to the educated ones. That is why we better keep silent rather than become a laughing stock by these meticulous people.

In other schools they do teach you English. I spoke English for most of my school life for some reasons. I think you learn English along tagalog, idk it's your choice. Right now my English sucks cause of quarantine, I speak taglog at home and I don't even speak that well, just like what I said, I only speak English at school and since we have online classes today I haven't spoken a word of English in my 7th grade class. So, now vocally my English sucks. My dad had called been calling call centers and most of the people he called were Filipino, he sometimes can recognize them by accent. There's a lot of Filipino people who do work in call centers. And one of my relatives is a nanny for this dude's large house and she cooks food really good. The owner sometimes let her fam go to her house and one day she held somesort of reunion there. But yeah in the end she does the work pretty well. And hell there was a lot of papers for my grandmother, grandfather, dad and mom for us to just get I here to america. My grandmother went to America to get more money for my dad and for other things, but not to date someone and get money from them. She's a hard working mother and one time she told me that someone was eying on her at a store and I think they told her something like she's using my step-grandfather for money, hell no. She does the most of the house work, she's a hard working lady, and they just judged her by just looking at her like that. I'm not saying all Filipino women, men, peeps are innocent. Just saying what I've experienced. And when my grandmother came to America, she was working hard with several relatives. She was introduced to my grandfather by a friend and she told me that my grandfather's house back then was like really messy, cause of other thing's I think is best to not say (and my grandmother is like a clean freak I tell you and strict sometimes.) Yeah other Filipinos might say jokes about dating rich foreigner, but most are together cause they love each other, not because of the money they see on each other. But again not saying that all are like that. And no dog meat is like illegal to most places, but yeah in the northern regions there are some groups who eat dog mean. I thought my aunt had eaten dog meat but no, it was my dad.

Originally, before the Spanish came, the Philippine women became warriors or spiritual leaders in the Philippines. Princess Urduja was a famous female warrior we learned about even in present day. In recent history, 1/10 Filipino guerilla forces in WW2 were women. They helped in the war as soldiers, couriers and spies. Even now, the Philippines is among the top countries with the least gender gap. So they're not submissive. Sometimes friendliness and patience in people can be mistaken for submissiveness, but that's a common misconception about anybody.
@uriahthehittite23093 жыл бұрын
Philippine women were warriors? Women in general were never warriors in the past nor in the present. This feminist myth has been popularized in the media that this lie repeated often now appear to be the "truth." Women have periods and their primary biology is geared towards child bearing and rearing. Now, these days there are contraceptives but it does not make them warriors considering that institutions which only allow the most fittest of men before have had their standards lowered to get women easier in the ranks. In most cases, men still carry the heavy lifting. Get real. We are not born equal and we will never be equal because we are not endowed by nature with carbon copy abilities and features when we come into the world. We can lie about equality, sure. But then again it only refers to political rights and opportunity. It was never about interchangeable gender not the denial of only two genders based on biology and not some idealized fiction imposed on us by those lunatics who hate the foundation of the nation, which is the traditional family.

I think the things is why Filipinos don't speak English to others, at least from what i see, is that we only use it at school and work, we rarely use it to talk with our family and friends, we use our dialects like Ilokano, Ibaloi, Cebuano, Bikol, or just Tagalog as it is what we are more comfortable in using. There are times we speak Taglish (Tagalog+English) as there are also words in english we use often here in the Philippines. We understand English but in speaking we tend to get shy and insecure with our accent and grammar so people tend to just stay quite rather than embarrassing themselves. Correct me if I got anything wrong.

Women in the Philippines are not quiet as they seem. There are 2 types of Filipinos, the one who attended formal education and the other is who are not. Those who cant speak to foreign people are those who are not able to study English that's why they are quiet. But majority of the Filipinos can speak English because English is our second language. Which, makes the reason why Philippines is the call center capital of the world because we can speak better English. And also, a lot are into working in call centers because the bpo industry offers a very good salary compare to working in other industries. In bpo, you can find engineers, nurses, teachers etc.

similar to japan... there are filipinos that can understand English, but having trouble expressing themselves, its not that they don't want to communicate but they choose to stay quiet and smile instead rather than speak broken English and get embarrassed... despite english language is being taught from primary school to high school and college... tagalog is still used as the primary language in their daily activities hence the practice in speaking English is under developed sometimes not at all.

We have divers dialects. My parents have their own dialects while their children speaks different dialects. We are divers when it comes to dialects. To communicate nation wide, we formed one dialect, Tagalog, at schools and at work we speaks English. And for fun we speak tagalish. Tagalog and English at the same time. To spice up the conversation we speak Spanish English and Tagalog at the same time.

As a Filipino myself, our stereotype of OFWs are mostly anyone who works in jobs like doctors and nurses, caregivers, cooks, maids, and nannies. Mostly the "doctors and nurses" one though, Lmao.

FYI: Philippines has surpassed India as Call Center Capital of the World. Also, regarding women.. well I must say that yes indeed there is a stereotype for old generation of filipinas being submissive, but now because of technology Filipinas has also evolved. For me, Filipinas are still the sweetest and thoughtful, well it's for you to find out. Anyways the only way you'll find out is once you travelled or watch someone who really travelled in the Philippines.

Actually, Philippines has surpassed India as the Call Center Capital of the World for almost a decade already. You may not notice that you are talking with a Filipino over the phone because Filipinos have neutral and can mimic accents. As one of the people working in this industry, I also have colleagues catering to English, Chinese, Japanese, British, Spanish etc customers depending on your language skillset etc

The killing of dogs as a livestock animal has been banned in the Philippines since 1998 via Republic Act No. 8485, known as the Animal Welfare Act, with exemptions for dogs killed and eaten as part of indigenous rituals.

about the women speaking English, I think the reason why they are afraid to talk to foreigners even if they can speak and understand English is they are afraid to have some grammar mistakes or mispronounced words. In the Philippines, some Filipinos can be very critical of other people's English that they will call that person's attention if they mispronounced words in English.

well, he didn't refer to all women, he only referred to women that foreigners may encounter that are silent and prefer not to speak. the reason might be that they are not well versed in speaking english.

That the Filipinos share the same culture is true in highly urbanized areas, no matter where. This is because Filipinos have the innate versatile quality of self-acculturation. In short, they adjust to every situation or set of beliefs and practices. But if you go to the rural areas, those that are the origin of such tribe, you see a different culture. So the truth is there are a variety of cultures in our country.

The fluorescent light was proven not made by Agapito Flores as his identification of patent was overturned. The Americans did first invent florescent. Karaoke for some reason, Japan and Philippines did. But title of that held to the Philippines because it was patented.

The host probably wants to say largest island nation birdering another country. Indonesia borders Brunei and Malaysia in island and borders East Timor in 1 island. Philippines is completely isolated island country. Filipinos learn English early in school. That does not mean it is used in everyday conversation, at least verbally. It's on the TV, the newspaper, in songs, in the government, in street signages, etc. So, almost all Filipinos understands and knows English, just don't speak with it everyday. That can be a reason why some are hesitant to talk to a foreigner.

Honestly speaking. We filipino speak with in respact way that others can understand.but for some reason..first im asking for apology if im being rude im just letting it out my own oppinion. Some foreign really speak in rude way. For some reason its natural for them. To us filipino before we speak we need to consider others perspective in short we think before we speak.one thing more if we know we can put them in awkward situations we rather keep silent that spoke nonsense .because we are always considerate towards other people think that we don’t know how to speak English or other languages… I’m just want to share my thoughts..✌🏼 I’m a big fan of you two. Thank you for hard work!!
