Some companies allow kpop groups to have a solo projects. Like Lisa, Jennie, Nayeon, Hwasa, J-Hope, AgustD, Hoshi and etc. I think because Western artists don’t do this a lot that’s why your not familiar with it, but it’s pretty common in kpop. And no, BTS is not breaking up, it’s a “break” from creating music/ sound as a group, since they’re focusing more on their solo projects. Which means more music to come, I see it as a growth in their career. J-Hope is releasing his album first, and maybe followed by the other members soon. So, maybe we’ll just see what else they have in store for us.

BTS didn't break up. THey are just concentrating more on their solo works for awhile, but have said they still have group projects to do for awhile (just not group music at the moment). BTS as a group did 3 all English songs - Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance. Also, Jungkook performed live with Charlie Puth before at an award show about 3 or 4 years ago, after Jimin and Jungkook had done a cover of the same song. They sang, We Don't Talk Anymore (one of Charlie's songs). This new song was their first MV together and Charlie has indicated they will likely perform this song live sometime in the future. I love it. Great summer vibe and funny, colorful way to talk about a breakup and not being able to get someone out of your mind.
