So here's some clarity for y'all, these girls are in their mid 30s now...they started way back in the early 90s....things were very different back then in the region these girls were living... Their father was training them & pushing so hard because this would lead to them being independent and not like the other girls who end up getting stuck in the married life with no way to persuade their ambitions or dreams.....and this is prevalent across Asia wherein parents start pushing their children from a young age in order to achieve success....

The climax of this movie is fictional, her father wasn't locked in the stadium, and the coach wasn't villainous. They changed the story for movie purpose. In real life ,her father watched her final in the stadium and her coach was a good guy.

100% disagreement with the conversation around 6:20.. She is his daughter, it's not about winning or losing for her.. It's a cultural thing. You can disagree but you can't disrespect - by words or by actions. It's not that she won, but the way she won... that she took him throwing her on her ego.. that she's rebelled. And that's why she regretted later.

yup was looking for a comment of this sort. The way they fought, it was not something that should have happened. I was gonna comment the same thing. Arrogance will will kill you in the long term. The message is one should stay grounded and remember where they came from and not start flying in the air, considering themselves god, she learnt the lesson and that was a good arc.

You guys were clearly against father from the start. Probably thinking that father was imposing his dream on them. Opportunities in a populous country are different from any developed nation. Father do their best to make their children succeed. They kill their dreams for their children. 99% of people in their life will appreciate if their father help them to choose a path before it's too late. Waiting for jujutsu kaisen reaction.

Also after watching and interacting with western people I have learned that ‘respect for elders’ is not a thing. They think that older ppl have to ‘earn’ their respect and often would cheer for the elder guy who loses, and a younger person who shows them down. Izzat waali baat nahi hoti, na hi izzat karte huye apna point prove karne ki. For teachers, parents, even grandparents.

Not really surprising - Western (specially US) culture promotes the idea of living life with liberty. This has it's own positives n negatives. As Indians our culture allows parents to interfere in kids lives even after they're adults. When I was a teen (14-22) I too hated that, but culture didn't allow me to disrespect my elders (yes it wasn't limited to parents) and now when I'm 28 and successful I look back and see all of it as form of discipline. And that's exactly how I want to raise my kids. I celebrate the courage of Indian parents who accept the possibility of their kids hating them for kids' future and success. Sounds 24carat selflessness to me.

Normally in India they play the National Anthem before every movie in the theaters but in this movie they didn't. Everyone that went to watch it on the big screen were wondering what happened and why was the National Anthem not played as they were ready for it standing at their seats. The makers decided to not do it so that when the National Anthem plays at the end of the movie, it is a better experience for the audience. That was talked about a lot once people realized what happened and the news spread that it was not played because it is being played in the movie at the end. Truly magical moment that gave goose bumps to the audience and made the movie one of the biggest blockbusters back in the day...

The only problem with this was that even geetha(in real life) said that, the coach wasn't depicted properly. As for the movie they made him kind of a douchebag, but in real life he was a good coach who wasn't anything like the movie depicted. Apart from this, I think as a movie it was one of the greatest biopics in a way.

5:46 That's not the point here tho. She won only because her Father is old now, not because her technique is better. The father knows his daughter's strengths and weaknesses and his techniques are like tailor made for her, unlike the coach who trains everyone the same way. She is just caught up in the mindset that the coach knows better than his poor dad, which is wrong.

Sometimes I feel that western audience can never ever understand a true emotion of an indian household. Like when they talked about the scene in when geeta fights her dad. They were like if he asked her to fight then would she lose. Yes she will. Not because she doesn't have talent but as decency. Thats how we are been brought up. That specific scene is not about accomplishing something its about the overconfidence a person gets when they think that what they are right now doing is only the correct thing.

So about the time when the daughter and father fought, there was definitely some ego going on there. They were both prideful people and Like father like daughter. But he didn't slam her down just for his ego, he was just trying to show that the technique she showed is actually wrong because if you look at it carefully, she's saying that you should move the hands to the right before untangling them (I mean why?? Like they literally does the same thing, why move to the right to untangle them when you can do it otherwise. It's almost like she's giving more importance to the aesthetics of moves rather than the move itself). Anyways what her father was trying to prove was that the extra seconds for moving the hands to right just to untangle them is enough for your opponent to slam you down. And she never won. He was getting older and hence his strength weakens.

We, as Asians, are sometimes too accepting of negative encouragement when positive could and would work too. But sometimes, it is what works and is necessary. In any case, this is increasing my world view. I appreciate that. :)) P.S. I guess the dilemma lies in cultural differences. And compromising is the key here.

The 90’s India the girls grew up weren’t the best opportunity wise for girls. Their Father saw wrestling as something that would give them purpose and be independent. In didn’t want his daughters to end up just being housewives. The Real Mahavir Phogat had once explained that in an interview. The Real Geeta and Babita have said in severals interviews that the Wrestling wasn’t forced onto them by their father he gave them a choice of doing something in life that would give them the courage to be independent. Because of him now that State has become a Wrestling hub churning out a Good amount of Female Wrestlers.

One of my favorite family movies! ❤❤ As a parent and a daughter myself, I can see decisions and choices on both sides that were made that caused so much unnecessary hurt and resentment between Geeta in particular and the father. Had the father explained the long term goal of empowering them as girls in that culture so they will have more options and a better future, the resentment Geeta had may have been so much less. Geeta came home "feeling herself" and decided that she knew more about techniques than he "outdated" father! She had no business interfering with his training program! She did not have his permission to do that. That was showing him disrespect and disregard. It had to take a humiliating loosing streak to humble her and get her committed to training again.

The most powerful scene Where Geeta wrestles her Father, its the clash of egos that doesnt care about relations and bonds.. its human nature perfectly depicted....🙏

I know that to you guys, the dad felt like an antagonist in the movie. But if you are a bit aware of the Asian culture and then personal dynamics, you will know that if there was one protagonist in the movie from the start to the end, it was the dad. The movie not at all about a dad imposing his will on his daughters (although it might appear that way to a foreign audience). The movie’s jist is about a dad pouring his soul into making his kids achievers and accomplished athletes. Remember that he is a little bitter because he couldn’t become a wrestler and he harbours some resentment towards the government/sporting system of the state. The best line of the movie was at 9:42 when the younger sister says that he is our dad, and even if he gives her an earful, his only goal is to bring out the best in his kids. At 18:12, when he said “don’t lose the match Geeta”, it wasn’t a command from the dad that she must overt, rather he was in a way telling her that this match is the culmination of the years of hard work and effort that she had put in, and must seize the moment and win. Sometimes the translations can’t bring out the true meaning.

So guys in countries like europ or america children can do whatever they want if parents wants anything good for them and children don't wanna do that it will be against parents but we asian people are not the same may be sometimes our parents are wrong but over 90% we succeeded because of them . As you can see if their father didn't forced them in the start then where they would be no one knows just a simple housewife and now their 3rd sister RITU is also in MMA UFC nad many more brightning their country 🇮🇳 Love From Pakistan 🇵🇰

dad only lost against daughter geeta because of his age, not because his technique is weak...you seen his face struggling, almost out of breath and almost seem he'll have a heart attack.

Love the reaction guys! Dont let the negative comments affect your journey :) Looking forward to more. Shah Rukh Khan movies are a gem. I agree with the comments that "Taare Zameen Par" should be reacted too, especially since Lisa is a teacher. The enjoyment of watching western audience react to Indian movies is seeing their perspective on things from a different culture. Of course theres going to be the moral police who'll take everything you say to heart, but all the takes you guys had are valid too. Cant wait for more videos, Hugo my man!
