It's not really supposed to be about terrible worst ever case scenarios. Most of my friends in London at the time of airing could relate to the anxiety in some way, especially around dating women while in your 20s in the city. They're certainly a pair of oddballs, but you should be able to relate to some of their deeper darker weird thoughts you wouldn't say out loud but only think privately. (Hence the show's name; was intended to be relatable at the time. I think.)

I feel like so much of the witty dialogue in the main characters' internal monologues doesn't register with these guys. But then again American comedy does tend to rely on the actions of the characters as opposed to being dialogue-driven, so that seems to be the culture over there and it probably becomes conditioned over time.

It's the social anxiety factor of Mark and Jez that's clearly alien to these guys! The ETS guys are putting themselves out there on YT so they've obviously got a fair degree of self confidence.

I noticed Mark corrected Jeremy's "less" to "fewer" in the same way Stannis in Game of Thrones would subtly do it, a few years later. I never would've picked up on that little detail the 1st time I watched :)

"that's the culture over there" it's called a sitcom, US has them too. Stop assuming it has any relation to real life. There is no culture of anything like that here every sitcom since the dawn of time relies on characters not behaving the way people would in real life to work.

Nah bud. Series 1-3 is the gold standard. S4 started with a couple of iffy ones, but then had the best series-ending. These here are the 'Bain & Armstrong running out of ideas and hiring new writers episodes'! ;)
