Carol Vorderman did Rachel Riley’s job on Countdown before Rachel took over. She was on from it’s first episode. Countdown was the first programme that launched Channel 4 in 1982.

There were better TV shows in the UK in the 80s than some of those mentioned on here. There was the great Spy drama sequel to "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" (1979) called "Smiley's People" starring the late, great Alec Guinness! 👍 Both deserve a watch! I think both the TV & Movie versions of Tinker have great endings, but I'd say the TV version has the edge!

Spencer says "full fat coke over diet because less chemicals" then immediately says "Mountain Dew above all" which contains chemicals actually banned in the EU. my logic for ordering a diet coke is "this meal is 200 less calories less with a diet coke" which adds up if you drink more than 1 a week (which i don't because it's the actual solution to "chemicals" in my ultra-processed foods.

When the wind blows is a haunting movie. Because it was genuinely funny to the very end, while being emotionally absolutely brutal. I don't know any movie that does that mix better. It's also technically a interesting mix of real and animation. You can tell from their reaction, it's not one you ever forget. And David Bowie wrote a song for it.

Any explanati9on of the Krankies is inadequate. They were children's entertainers with one acting as a farther and the other acting as his son. The one that was the son was actually a mini woman and they were married. They were good clean fun, but then it came out that they were mad swingers having a whole host of adult times, fights and all sorts.

@Lones555
@Lones555 5 ай бұрын
They changed the recipe in 2020 as it used to contain a banned ingredient "brominated vegetable oil" which is why mountain dew felt like you were drinking oil rather than a water based soda. It still has too much sugar in it to be sold as a soda in the UK so they rebranded it as an "energy drink". It's basically the same recipe as the US one but can't be marketed as a soda for health reasons. Obviously the FDA in America doesn't give a shit about whether a food is fit for human consumption which is why so much high fructose corn syrup is used over there.

I wouldn't worry about copyright. All of these are uploaded by channel 4 on their channel. Maybe use a proxy so it looks like you're in the UK. But there's lots of people who share these video on their channels without any problems... Early CD tech was really shite and super expensive.. But, as with everything you could have paid $800 for a CD player when they were first released. Or just wait 18 months and by one for less than $100. The only time you should be drinking any kind of fizzy drink/pop/soda is when you are mixing it with alcohol. I thought that it was just common knowledge that ET was the biggest movie. It still is to this day if you ignore Titanic. But in the making of Episode 1 George Lucas is so pissed off and he's complaining that Titanic is a better movie and how no one will beat it. George, maybe if you were not making shite movies you might have had a chance.

I'm not sure what the deal with is Vorderman + all the griefing she gets on 8/10 Cats, but on the plus side, as she's gotten older she looks more and more like Isabella Clarke 😮 I've personally thrown away 12x copies of Moby "Play", used to date a girl in music promotion, horrible album, you couldn't even give it away lol The Krankies (irl husband and wife) were Scottish "stars" of kids tv. The wife played a naughty schoolboy in a sitcom-type setup, christ knows if it was any good, probably hilarious in hindsight knowing what they got up to in their personal lives - they were proper old-school swingers ;)

You won't understand just how big Neighbours was in the 80s, it was originally shown at 1pm and repeated at 11am the next morning but they ended up moving it to 5:30pm because so many workers were skipping off to watch it! I was lucky enough to be at school and lived close enough to be let home for lunch, and my dad was a teacher and did the same. We both got hooked on the show. Kylie Minogue owes her entire music career to some nameless exec at the BBC deciding to buy the show as a cheap daytime soap filler.

I think the reason the later shows don't seem as good is because there hasn't been a lot of things happening in the last few years that lends itself to humor. They are doing the best they could with the material. But I did dislike the former Spice girl in 2014. I must not be the only one. I see someone posted an edited version with her bits deleted.
