M&S is short for Marks & Spencers. I don't quite know how to describe M&S, it's basically a store that sells clothes and food, many stores have 2 floors, with one floor for clothes and the other dedicated to food and sometimes called the food hall. They are one of the higher end food stores a bit like Waitrose.

When we were children in the 1960s, we always had M&S Fondant Fancies as a treat after tea on Sundays.

What a lovely surprise and how kind of your friend. M & S food is one of our higher end stores and can be quite pricy. Percy Pig, Colin and Connie The Caterpillars are M & S own Sweets and Confectionary range, although some stores have tried to replicate their Colin The Caterpillar Cake. Which I guess the fondant fancies are a take on the brand Mr. Kipling's French Fancies. Some of their crisps are hand cooked which I think the prawn cocktail looked like. Worcester is pronounced Wuster Sauce and I agree you want a bit of flavour and zing but too much and it burns your tongue! Double Devon is probably referring to cream in the toffee.

I’ll let you into a little secret. Worcestershire sauce is not really pronounced the way it’s written. Most British people( at least in the south) dispense with the ‘Shire’ part of the name and the R is to all intent and purpose Silent in Worcester. So we phonetically pronounce it ‘Wooster’ sauce . Though if really want to, you could call it Woostershire sauce. Hope that helps.

The fondant fancies are indeed very mildly chocolate lemon and strawberry. I've never been a huge fan of them, I find them way too sweet. Cocktail sauce in the UK is different to your cocktail sauce

I love these videos! I need more of them! Maybe you could try and get hold of some foods and snacks from Scotland, Ireland and Wales to try. Everything you tried there are general British snacks that you could probably get from whatever country of the UK you are in. But each of the countries have their own snacks and foods that that you wouldn’t really get in other countries. Some ideas for you may include: Wales: Bara Brith, Laverbread (it’s not what you think it is, trust me!) and Welsh Cakes. Scotland: Tablet, Edinbugh Rock, Irn Bru & Tunnocks (both of which can be found in other parts of the U.K. but are typically Scottish) Ireland: someone’s going to have to help me out here, I don’t know much about Irish snacks. But they’ll be some that are typically Irish! England: Kendal Mint Cake, Pontefract Cake & Bakewell Tart (again can be found in other parts of the U.K. but both originate from England) I’m sure there’s plenty more I’ve missed but you get the gist! But it’d be nice for you to try some regional stuff!

The Mr Kipling French fancies are definitely different flavours but M&S may not have flavoured theirs. Mr Kipling is the usual brand for these.

Marks & Spencer’s is one of our higher end shops in terms of food, but their main thing is clothing. I’m not sure if all of them have a food hall, but I do know that there are some stores that are just the food hall which are basically just an expensive supermarket 😅
