I lived in the UK for a year as a teenager and fell in love with British chocolate the first week I was there. One of the first I tried was Fry’s Turkish Delight, and it was like nothing I had ever tasted. When I returned to the US, I brought a few bars back and loved sharing them with my friends (who had only heard of Turkish Delight from the Narnia books) and seeing the expression on their faces. Thankfully, the candy shop at a local mall sells it, so I still buy it on occasion. My wife and kids like it as well.

Can you imagine how they would have reacted to the old style Dairy Milk? From before Kraft food bought out Cadbury's, and changed the ingredients, recipe, and got rid of the foil wrappers?
@peterwilliamallen10636 ай бұрын
Why do people like your self think that Cadbury Chocolate has changed, first yes it was bought out by Kraft because the Cadbury Shareholders wanted to sell out, the shareholders were looking at a deal with Hershey Chocolate, but Kraft thank goodness a hostile take over bid that was accepted by the Cadbury Shareholders and Cadbury became a part of Kraft who were tempted to change Cadbury Chocolate tate but came up against hostility, next Kraft purchased Heinze Foods and split the Kraft Company into the Food side and Confectionary side starting a new Company Mondolaze International that deals with the Confectionary side and Kraft dealing with the Food side such as Hienze food. Since Mondalaze took control, they have turned the Cadbury factory in Birmingham into a Factory of Chocolate exellence and Cadbury have become one of the biggest Chocolate Manufactureres in thw World and the ingredients and reciepie have not changed, it is the UK Government that made companies like Cadbury cut back on Sugar and Salt Content that have changed the taste and in the UK Cadbury ditched foil wrapped chocolate way before Kraft took over

@@tucoramirez3333 It tastes oddly 'sour' due to butyric acid. It's part of the recipe and proportion of cacao solids and partly the preparation. The Cadbury bars of my childhood were made under license by Hershey’s. They were somewhat better than regular Hershey’s, but not really that good. Maybe not now, but years ago Creme Eggs were imported from England where the chocolate was smoother. There has always better quality American chocolate, like Guittard (mostly sold in bulk to candymakers like See’s), TCHO, and even Mars. I’ve had samples of Mars bulk chocolate at the Ethel M factory in the Vegas area, and that is extremely smooth and suitable for high end candies. Lindt has bought several American companies including Ghirardelli, and they manufacture in the US.

Back in the 80's and early 90's, you'd get the smell of chocolate from Rountree's, the smell from the sugar factory, and the smell from Terry's and Cravens. It was so intense that even Willy Wonker would've blown his load 🤣 My grandfather was a charge hand for KitKat at Rountree's, he was there all his working life. When he retired, he was given a very expensive hand crafted clock made from walnut with a brass plate that had his name and service dates engraved onto it. I was working with an American up in the North of Scotland. One day he rushed in and said to me "I've just had a Mars bar, and read the ingredients on the wrapper! It's made with *REAL CHOCOLATE!!"* (me) "Yes, Dennis? It's a chocolate bar, so what did you expect?" (Dennis) "But it's *REAL* chocolate - not just a chocolate-flavoured coating!" He had to explain at that point; that a typical American equivalent would be coated with sort of chocolate-flavoured stuff, but anything with real chocolate on it was the exception, rather than the rule. It's no wonder I've never seen a Hershey bar over here.

Hershey uses some sort of sterilised off milk, that gives it that long shelf life and vomit flavour undertones.
@deadbydayinblack7 ай бұрын
You are right. Its quite the tale. Basically Hershey used butyric acid as a preservative back in the day. ( this is one of the things found in baby sick/vomit) Nowadays there is much better preservatives. But during the second world war most of the other chocolate manufacturers gave their machine plants over for war making. Hershey did not, continuing to make chocolate for rations for the troops. During the war the troops got used to it and when they came back home they where ok with it. And since Hershey was the only chocolate manufacture ... americans just accepted it as the truth. BUT the rest of the world yeah the butyric acid was not wanted. Hence uk chocolate is more milky and suger filled.* Belgium chocote is more dark using more coca. and swiss chocolate is more milky ( these are genaralisations of course) * Uk chocolate also uses milk solids...you can look it up

As a Canadian, who has also lived in the 🇺🇸 FYI: 1. Those chocolate orange slices, perhaps sure same brand but still UK were selling at Trader Joe’s and so many other places - also sold in Canada. 2. In 🇨🇦you can find all of the Cadbury bars seen here except for the Double Decker; the Easter Cream egg is everywhere - you will even find it on sale at all grocery chains after Easter. The Nestle Aero bar (due to the patented chocolate air bubbles inside hence the name) is very popular in 🇨🇦 - it also comes in several other flavours now apart from mint: the original plain chocolate, caramel, orange and I think I have seen strawberry.

But they're English chocolate, they get shipped to America and stuff

@@sirEggHead-g4n Not really. US supermarkets, no matter how big the chain or location store… have a FIERCE shelf turf war placement location going on at all times. So with all the brands of chocolate bars and candies…the above is not about to make room for a foreigner brand - not even for the undesirable lowly bottom shelf. It is a psychological game that has been going on for many decades worldwide - eye line level to waist level is the prime real estate for regular and impulse purchases. But in big cities, like Los Angeles where I lived, you will find Brit ex-pats, who open a little tea shop serving and to go British recipe pastries with another business next door being a mini grocery shop full of British brand imports items from Heinz, Cadbury, etc. for the homesick ex-pats. I would often frequent the 2 shops. Otherwise things like Cadbury chocolate products would be just found in Commonwealth countries. FYI: even in Canada we do not have the Heinz canned British products. Heinz Canada does their own canned offerings which are completely different from the British ones except for baked beans LOL but Canada would have different flavoured baked beans than that of the UK.

As a canadian, we have acsess to almost all of the candies (at least in my province lol), American and the British candy, so its really funny watching Americans/british that only have access to one or the other try the opposing candy lol

I love Tunnock's tea cakes. I used to live in Scotland (Tunnock's factory is there) and had those from time to time. I miss them. My wife loves Terry's chocolate orange. Will definitely have some of these when we go back.

Love Terry's Chocolate Orange. Long ago, the company I worked for was one of the few companies that sold it. Now you can find easily in the US

That dude is a genius. I've been telling people the secret ingredient in a double decker is mild coffee for a lifetime!

Ah thats interesting to know, thanks! Ive always thought it tasted like coffee, love me a double decker!

The first time I ate a double decker I asked if it was ‘cappuccino’ because it DEF does have coffee notes! So happy to see others agree.
@caras47668 ай бұрын
I'd never thought about it before but it definitely has a mild coffee flavour!
