Your confusion over whether Jaffa Cakes were biscuits or cakes made me smile. Years ago the tax authorities could not decide this question (cakes and biscuits are treated differently for VAT, our sales tax). So it ended up in court (seriously!) and the judge found they were cakes because they go hard when they are stale, where biscuits go soft. Thank goodness for the law!

If I may add to this. Chocolate biscuits are classed as luxury goods in the UK 😀...so we have to pay tax. Cakes are every day food so no tax. Ridiculous. They also baked a giant Jaffa cake to take to court to further prove its...cakeiness.

Jaffa cakes are among the most popular biscuits in the UK - and my grandkids in Vancouver insist their uncle in Edinburgh send them a care package of them (and of milk chocolate Hobnobs and Garibaldi biscuits) every chance he gets. Jaffa, btw, is the trading port in Israel from which Israeli oranges are shipped. But then, anyone who enjoys McD's chicken things has a major palette problem.

First off, great to see your girlfriend appear alongside you. Now, lol, Jaffa cakes. They are scrum-diddly-umptious! The orange jelly filling is what makes a Jaffa cake what it is. Most of the others aren't part of my regular eating habits. Hobnobs do a chocolate coated version which makes eating them more palatable. But yeah, Cadbury's is still THE brand to go to .... even though there was a huge outcry a few years back when it was announced that the US giant, KRAFT, was buying out Cadbury's. Not sure if this was entirely true but I've not noticed any difference in the taste/texture of any of the produce. I'm sure now you've got a P.O. Box you'll soon discover that we Brits aren't obsessed with just chocolate, there's a whole plethora of different sweets to sample. ;-)

actually they made a good point of why they don't find them as nice as we do. in american food they use a lot of chemicals and additives that we don't put in our food due to food safety laws, so their tastebuds have been conditioned by the addition of things they shouldn't be consuming to need those additives. they also aren't too focussed on food texture like we are either which explains them not liking jaffacakes because jelly is something americans wouldn't put with cake and chocolate. but the one thing most americans tend to agree on is our chocolate is better than theirs because we use more milk and cream and they use more chocolate and chemicals to preserve the milk so their chocolate is quite bitter where as ours is very sweet.

The face pulling and the look of disgust and throwing of the food was completely disrespectful. And yes it did come across as offensive . It felt uncomfortable as it's ok to dislike something but perhaps the way it came across felt (even if it wasn't intended) ungracious in respect of the time, trouble and expense that someone has taken and gone to and when we are in a pandemic and still in lock down here. The sheer effort of buying and posting this alone would have taken time and risk. I agree it's good to tell the truth but in a less rude way.
