Because Ohms Law has not been repealed (by act of parliament 🙂), doubling the voltage would also double the current in a resistive load. As Power equals voltage x current, the power level would quadruple.

Why do I love box opening videos so much? I think part of me is excited like in childhood watching a magic show “what’s in the box?” 😂
@DenathornСағат бұрын
I definitely think the person in the video was clutching at straws with the "cons", because lets face it, when it comes to these things, you have to find some, but he did well with the situation where you get up in the middle of the night to go for a wee, and the other half has left her hair straighteners on the floor unplugged, and before you know know it your yelping like a good'un! :D Like someone said, load balancing is not an issue since a house has multiple rings running from the consumer unit (DB) feeding different parts of the house, very hard to overload it, even a rats nest of extensions behind the TV can usually hold up fine. And again, if something has suddenly stopped working, it's not a real issue, the first port of call is the switch, then plug something else into the outlet, if that's okay, check/replace fuse... If that doesnt work... The thing that has stopped working will probably just be old skool f[HEYYYYYYYYY MACARANA]ked!

You can get multi way adapters with type 3 surge protection built in. Now with the wirong regs they recommend fitting a type 1 or type 2 in the consumer unit(breaker box for americans)

On a recent trip to New York I took my travel kettle with me as the hotel didn’t provide one in the room and to my absolute horror it took over an hour for that kettle to boil. Back home in the UK that same kettle boils in less than three minutes. Also, when I plugged my Worldwide adaptor into the socket, the weight of it kept pulling the flimsy pins out so I had to wedge it up from underneath 🤯😱

This info is somewhat out of date. Since the 1990's all domestic houshold appliences sold in the UK must be supplied with a fitted moulded plug which cannot be opened. The fuse is still accesable and can be replaced.
@Shoomer198828 минут бұрын
That's a very common misconception, because nearly all of them are but the rules (BS 1363-1) don't actually say that. Only that a plug conforming to the standard must be fitted, and that user access to a fuse is provided. Any non-moulded plug on an appliance must comes with clear instructions on how to service it, so for the manufactures it was just simpler to stick a moulded one on things.

We dont need to leave plugs on the floor, we just leave it in the socket that's switched off

Most people in the uk know their own number plate! Some parking "lots" you have to put your plate number in the machine so people tend to memorise it!
@andypandy90133 сағат бұрын
To you our plugs look huge. To us your plugs look tiny. And dangerous! 😟 Also, we only rarely step on a plug because we just leave them in the socket ("outlet") and switch off the power from there. We do not need to physically pull out the plug to isolate the appliance. 🙂

Load balancing??? Im pretty sure he just made that up! lol Basically ive never ever heard of that being a problem. My father is an electrician since the 1950s and he said thats never been an issue, and he worked on building projects all over London.

Load balancing? I've never heard this to be an issue here in the UK.
@beautybeagles69826 сағат бұрын
Never had an issue with load balancing in any house I've lived in. The fact that they are flat against the wall rather than sticking out like the US ones means the extra size is irrelevent. Never stepped on a plug in almost 45 years of life, but to be honest, we normally just leave them plugged because, like i said before, they are flush against the wall. What he said about turning them off at the wall, making it harder to troubleshoot the lamp not working was just dumb, the first thing any Brit would do if the light didn't come on is check the wall socket switch.

uk plug nothing step on lego in the dark now ur jumping all over and power balancing is done automatically by the ring system that was brought in after ww2 to save on copper and keep the load equal if u use spurs off a ring ie more than the lehgal 1 allowed trouble other places just run 20/30 spurs all over the house then there is 3 fase and tuned serpresed and steppers also when uk powers bites u nine outr of 10 ur fine

those are the only standard plugs we have, we do have a 2 pronged plug like yall, but its usually only used for electric razors or a few bits of bathroom equiptment and those still have the doors still however, and they are up above the mirror in a bathroom, everything else uses those type Gs

Load balancing is not an issue. Also our plugs may be big but they don't stick out as much as the US ones when plugged in. That means you can push furniture almost flush against the wall.

No one ever stands on plugs. No one ever forgets to turn on the power at the socket. Load balancing? Never heard that ever being an issue not least because a house will have multiple rings, so everything is not just all off one. Testing etc? All about electricians knowing what they are doing. As for the size of plugs, the wire hangs down so the only size consideration is the depth of the plug which of course is less than a USA one for example where the cord sticks out the back, so again not an issue in real life.

You can by universal travel adapters which have Europe, uk and American plugs
@alanaindow5577 сағат бұрын
The only real compliant that holds weight here is if you stand on it, something that very rarely happens as you don't need to unplug, just switch off, the size is to accomodate all the features, of safety, US plugs are a direct contact to the circuit with no safety, quick small and therefore a risk., calculated yes, but a risk

IF you ever bring your phones over here. Most homes have at least one wall socket with a USB charging point on them. Like the one he was using in the video. So make sure you bring your USB phone charging cable. If not we have plug in adapters available for sale almost everywhere. *WARNING* Don't purchase one at the airport though.. (They sell them there, at seriously inflated prices)

You can run anything off a UK socket and there are never any "load balance" problems. Ever. That's just nonsense (unless you try to power four cookers off one outlet or something equally dumb I suppose). Apart from that, I rather liked this video (the original one I mean) when I first saw it. I always love JT's videos!

Trooping the colour comes from hundreds of years ago medieval times when there was no army belonging to the monarch so each noble man brought their private army to the field so on the field of combat before the battle all the different flags or colours of all the different noblemen were paraded in front of all the troops so they knew who to follow and who not to kill so now you now

Electrical safety in the UK means it is IMPOSSIBLE to get electrocuted if your house is wired correctly, even if you throw a toaster in the bath! Also, you cannot change a plug anymore. All plugs are solidly molded to the cable and cannot be changed, again so they can't be rewired incorrectly.
@kriswheeler56869 сағат бұрын
Other than stepping on them he was really really searching for flaws in the system Plus it’s built in to us to check the socket first, check the plug, socket then appliances Generally you plug something in when you want to use it and the switch is right there with a big red end so you can clearly see it’s on/off it’s really not an issue at all
