Had a ridge, he showed up at our door one day out of the blue, still had stitches in from getting neutered. No one claimed him, we kept him. He acted the same way at first, a little discipline and he straightened right up. I miss my boy chopper

I’ve been binge watching all your videos for the past week…. Learned so much from you! On Friday we’re heading up to open our cottage for the season, for 10 days… peaceful area to work with my 18 mo old pup on the leash, bought a prong collar. Woods and the lake 🫶🏼 Not proud to say, but had tried Zaks way last year. 🤦🏼♀️ My dog doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, like this dog- he’s such a lover, not a fighter.

I had a dog that looked just like this one, was also a rhodesian ridgeback without the back-pulled hair, someone told me he was mixed with boxer, don't know if it's true but rottweilers have very distinctive colors and color changes that the dog in the video has no trace of Nowdays I own a swiss shepherd mixed with (probably) lab or canaan, and I now train him to walk besides me without pulling, but other than pulling he is really a sweet sweet dog, super friendly with everyone

Dex is a good boy at heart, he just lacks discipline. I've seen alot of big dogs that are like a spring loaded with affection just like this guy. I've seen it alot with breeds that need lots and lots of activity like collies and ridge backs etc. I think exercise is very important to get these dogs trained right. Gotta get some gas out of that tank to help focus them.

Just watching this today. Its interesting to me that people want to argue about size. The behaviors and proper training should be the focus.
@mikeseigley99004 ай бұрын
Will you go into more detail about the bite on the lip as a show of affection? It was hard to hear but I think important to understand the behavior.

I use the harness to control my dog, but I don't attach a lease to the harness unless I want the pull, I use a martingale and/or a prong collar, but the harness makes it easier to pickup and handle the 90 lb dog if need be. I'm trying to train him to pull me on command like a husky, and then let me lead him normally, back and forth. I like the pull when I'm running, it's fun, and good exercise for us both.

Love the look of those! Rhodesian ridgebacks beautiful dogs when I was working at a dog daycare. Horrible job but got to meet a bunch of good boys and girls. These were great dogs.

I know I'm a couple months late to this but have been watching your vids. My dog is like a carbon copy of Dex in looks and behavior (he's a Black Mouth Cur). I'll be implementing your techniques with him and just wish we lived closer!

Only time I use a harness in when I’m doing bite work with my corso and that’s to allow him to pull without choking himself out I’d never try to use one to stop a dog from pulling that’s a bit like cutting your foot on cause your big toe hurts.

Do you have a video on resource guarding ? I've made progress with my dog but he still isn't trust worthy near his treat and anyone else in the house I can pet him I can take his treat but nobody else can get near him without growling and snarling he was a stray but I know it can be trained just need some pointers to move forward

Looking for part 2! How did he turn out? I have a Dogo Argentino who is quite similar, 8 month old, 100 pound puppy who is very well behaved until there are people or dogs around them and he gets completely out of control wanting to love on everyone and every thing. Inside I can get him on his place (with difficulty) but outside is harder to get him to focus on me.

Hey I love watching your videos on how to train dogs I have an 8 month year old pit Great Dane I think but I was wondering on how you train them to ride in a pickup bed and how to potty train cuz I gave him good attention when he goes potty outside I give him treats but then he'll come inside and do it again after he drinks or eats and I'm normally take him out right after he eats and drinks but sometimes he'll just do it right away or when he comes right back inside and for the truck part he peed in my backseat every few times we go in my truck so I was wondering how you train them to sit in the back of the bed!!!!!!

Fun video, thanks Garret! Very Cesar Millan-ish, that scene at the front door: "Puppy Jesus 911" is here! My bet is on Rottweiler as well, judging from the face, and heavy, compact built for a "normal" Ridgeback. Can't wait to see the owners' faces either, when they get their dog back after all the demons of undesirable behaviors have been exorcised :-)

@hay_Z2021Ай бұрын
Poor dog! So sorry that happened to your dog 😢💔 my suggestion would to start carrying a belt over your shoulder when you take your dog out to walk, or have it in the area laying somewhere during a fun activity with your dog, as for random noises, are they loud noises?

Loving your videos, but please don’t tell people to throw harnesses away though! 🥺 They serve an important purpose… in the car! Most people can’t fit a crate in their vehicles. Getting a seatbelt tether and hooking it up to the back of harness keeps pup safe in accidents. Never hook them up by their collar, it will break their necks. Please start telling people in your videos! 😫

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but this dog is not a ridgeback... I have the exact same dog as this guy, its called a Black Mouth Cur and its a Cur mix breed dog. Ridgebacks do need the stripe on their back to be a "ridgeback". That's why they are very expensive and mostly owned by snobby people who want and need a 100% ridgeback.
@Aswodel2 жыл бұрын
My adopted black mouth cur was exactly the same behavior at 3 years old. Its the impulsiveness and knowing no boundaries that is causing this behavior.
@1packatak Жыл бұрын
They do not have snobby owners. There are just way fewer breeders who are very particular about who gets their puppies. Thankfully Ridgebacks have not been “discovered” by BYB and puppy mills-probably because they are too expensive for the crap people to own.
