BELGIAN MALINOIS ATTACKS DOG TRAINER! OUT OF CONTROL!

This is Sarge an approximately one year old Belgian Malinois that has some major issues! We have a few videos lined up with him showing you his progress as we take him from a very unconfident, highly leash reactive and aggressive dog to calm, submissive, and obedient in all environments. Wish us luck!
Unfortunately we only got to see Sarge act out for about 5-10 seconds. There is a reason for this. In dog training and in the dog world, bad behavior is dealt with immediately. A pack of wolves do not allow a misbehaved outsider to come into their pack and act like a fool (barking, growling, attacking other members of the pack) for 20 minutes until they learn to calm down. A misbehaved dog in a dog park will spark a fight in seconds, not minutes and not hours later. Aggressive issues are dealt with immediately.
Dogs live in the here and now. Issues are addressed immediately. They don't schedule meetings in the future to discuss ongoing problems. They don't put each other on timeout or wait for each other to "calm down". They don't wait for things to just work themselves out. They confront problems immediately. Unacceptable behavior is dealt with swiftly and severely. Unfortunately, that doesn't allow for the best "build up" for entertainment purposes. It's hard for me as a dog trainer to allow BS behavior from an aggressive dog to build and build just to get more shots and B-Roll of the bad behavior. Every single time or every moment a dog gets away with BS behavior (barking, lunging, attacking, biting) those actions become habits and are deemed "acceptable" and are more often repeated.
I want the dog to know from the moment it meets me that trying to attack me or anyone else in my domain is a horrible decision and will absolutely not be tolerated now or ever again. Dogs respond very well to this type of training. They do not respond well to "sometimes", "maybe", "later", "kind of", or other wishy washy leadership.

@@Demonic.k9 I did not intend to refer to the dog as the problem . The behavior and lack of knowledge of the owner (including me ) is the problem. Garret trained my dog because that’s not my full time job so I approached a professional as I am not . I trained horses . My dogs biggest problem like many dogs is me . I know that I don’t need you to explain it to me . Why would I listen to you ? I don’t c anything from you out there in the form of video, or education . You just make comments . Mostly negative comments lending me to view you more as a troll than a concerned person owner or trainer . Kinda like a arm chair quarter back .

It's more like, "Thank goodness the owner realized what kind of problem this could escalate to, and knew he needed to get some help to get the dog past this issue." Also, he knew to get the dog trained to a higher level of obedience and good manners. Malinois are amazing dogs and with proper training, they can look like Olympic level athletes performing at the top of their game. I'm going to have to see if Garret has videos of this dog being trained. Sarge is an absolutely gorgeous dog.

Incorporating a mix of these three rounds me out on my theory, only thing I could ask for is more feel and timing. Be prepared if you go searching up dog daddy, Zak George has basically launched a slander campaign on him. It’s kinda despicable, especially from a guy that has used chat GPT to reply to my comments on his channel lol.

I’ve been binge watching your videos. Love your stuff! I am an emergency veterinary nurse and even so many people in the field are all “positive training”…but i feel like they don’t truly understand 1. not all breeds are the same and some breeds need balanced training 2. the dogs quality of life is better after training and 3. Good job with him man. My malinois came to us at one year old, had zero socialization with people or other dogs, and was a real challenge. In the one year since, he has come a long way and is no longer dangerous to strangers he meets unless he senses something isnt right. He's still in training, has a lot to learn, but I'll work with him every day for the rest of his life because he's an incredible dog and well worth the effort. @@criticalcommenter he was surely a danger to strangers when we got him, but he's come far enough along that he obeys our commands, and will not attack anyone. He still lets us know if he doesn't trust someone, but he'll communicate that and wait for direction no matter how uneasy he is feeling. I have trained several of my own dogs and can say the process is actually pretty fast with most dogs. As long as they are not completely mental, they respond very well to praise and reward. They respond well because all they really want is to get your approval.

@@migueljimenez5165 my dog likes going into stores like Home Depot, Lowe's, etc so with that came exposure to more people and it's really about repetition. I wouldn't recommend taking your dog into Lowe's at first, but maybe another place your dog enjoys being like his favorite park, hiking trails, or a more mellow place like that where he's going to be happy and comfortable being at a place he enjoys, and gradually meeting more people each time. I didn't force my dog, I let him see me shaking hands, putting my hand on the strangers shoulder etc to show him I'm ok with this person, and that let's him know he can be ok with this person too. Your dog will get there soon enough, just show him lots of love and comfort in the presence of other people to relax him and don't force it and he'll get better with it slowly.

Thank you for this excellent real-life video! Times are financially very tough, yet I'd bring my Mal/GSD for board & train in a heartbeat if / when my situation changes. It's a priority. I love how he mentioned touching the dog to desnsitize. As a shelter volunteer I tend to touch dogs' ears and face for the purpose of get them used to that. I only do this with dogs that I've already established a relationship with for safety reasons.I can read body language and know when to back off but kids usually don't I also check their teeth and paws so when the go to get a check up they don't see it as this strange, scary, or horrible experience.

Should never get a Mal for a first dog! This is only for an advanced dog owner. I couldn't live without mine, but out of dozens of rescues over 40 decades, from 7-180 pounds of varying breeds, I can say this breed is the most work. Be prepared to change your life for him. But worst part is, it takes many years for most owners to grasp the concept and develop the skills necessary for a Mal and most will never get there, which is fine, that's why there are other breeds. He'd be better off to rehome the Mal before the Mal becomes a problem, and get a Lab, Golden, etc. I hate the fact that people think these are "cool dogs" so they get one. Thank you for working to educate your friend. Unfortunately, he needs to know this stuff BEFORE he gets a Mal and it is always the dog who is blamed and suffers. Mine is 85 pounds, large for a Mal and even in full predator mode chasing a rabbit, has 100% recall and will come right back to me when I call him off the rabbit. Young small visiting children can take bones, balls and meat out of his mouth with no problem. You know how many thousands of hours that took, to get that obedience? What a great dog, and worth it, but only for a person who can devote the time [I am home all day], energy, and a person who already KNOWS how to be the calm, confident, secure leader that a Mal needs. [My ex, over twice my size and male {I am female}, a macho martial artist, had zero control of the Mal. My Mal liked him, but only as a "friend," certainly not someone to obey, even though they lived in the same household for years. ] Confidence really can't be taught, the person has to already inherently have it, and from there, learn the skills. Most dog owners have no idea of this concept and they think "leadership" is aggression. I am 95 pounds and in my 60's. Nothing aggressive about me, but my Mal doesn't doubt for a moment that I am the leader. I have never even had to raise my voice. Your friend is the one who needs the education, not a board and train for the dog. He can do that, and get a well trained dog, but, it won't obey him when it gets home and he will spend thousands. He needs extensive education. Better yet, give up the dog to a GREAT home who WANTS this breed and knows it, and get a different type of dog. I hope he does that, for the sake of his dog. And thank you for helping and caring.

I am currently training the first time owners of a mal (When asked 'why a malinois?' they told me 'because they're cool and tough', I kid you not). I take the dog on a board and train once a week and it is a joy but the owners, though eager, are a lot more work. 👍

I have an American Dingo (Carolina Dog) pure. Beautiful dog, had him from eight weeks. This puppy was so much fun, love people. At about six months he started to develop over protective behavior with other dogs, he would keep other dogs away from me by nipping them. the older he got the worse it got. Now he is about five, he's calmed down but very protective of the family and the personal space of us. Yes we put him away when new people come over, it takes time for him to accept a new person. Ive learned about ten different barks from him, I know what is going on just by his bark.I was told he is over protective because I am over protective. He is out in public every day, he loves little dogs afraid of big dogs. Any way enough about my dog.

Thankyou for sharing, I've been doing the same with my dog he's a working line collie mix kelpie or Australian cattle dog, he 12mths old and as tough as nails. Most of his behaviour is fear based, he doesn't like to be told no, so he does some redirect on me which of course is a no no. Some days I have a battle on my hands and other days he's a beautiful dog nice to be around and enjoy training. But oh boy it's exhausting for us both.

I have one of these tough guys, getting more reactive at 10 months old and comes at me (maybe playing & trying to dominate) at times, when I tell him to do something he clearly does not want to do. If you give him an inch, he'll take a mile. Loves me dearly and I love him too, but he's a real bruiser!

If he's getting more reactive at 10 months, please, get professional help. He will only get worse. My Mal has been thousands of hours of work and training but worth it and the easiest dog to train, as he so clearly wants to please me, his leader. If yours is trying to dominate you, you are not the leader. he may love you, but he doesn't accept your role as leader.

My 9 yr old son gets this. He sees dogs as walking habits that get really locked into doing what they do most, good or bad. Stop their bad actions so they no longer repeat them asap, give them a job to suceed at, through good behaviors/trailing reward and they become good confident and dependable dogs.

I hear you. Unfortunately at this time I am not willing to share it for a number of reasons. The technique is very dangerous and I would hate for anyone to try it without knowing exactly what they are doing. But I wanted to make a point of clarification. The dog is sitting there with his tail tucked between his legs because before I even met the dog he was absolutely terrified of everything. So to clarify, I didn't make the dog scared of me or make him tuck his tail between his legs. Or personally do anything to him to make him scared of me or scared in general. He was scared out of his mind to begin with. "Fear based aggression". The worst kind of aggression. He just would always choose fight over flight. I convinced him that fighting is no longer an option and so then as you see in the video he resorts to flight a couple of other times. That is also no longer an option as we progress through the session. I just want to be clear as I can be I didn't cause the dog to be fearful of me. That's his genetics and lack of socialization. At the end of the training he learns to relax because in part neither fight nor flight is an option anymore. He understands that I am no longer a threat but I am also not going to put up with any of his BS. To try and better clarify, if he was truly a dominant aggressive dog he would not have been barking like a lunatic and the technique I used would not have made a dominant dog tuck his tail between his legs they would just stop the nonsense but very likely still be standing very confidently.

Alpha roll did not solve this dog's problem. I use it fairly rarely and use it as more of a gauge to see where the dog is at as you can see in the video. It's still a good tool for certain things but not my go to maneuver for aggressive dogs usually

Loved the video! What are some signs of a good breeder vs. a breeder to stay away from?

Thank you. Great question. First off, as in the case of this particular breeding it was a "backyard" breeder (which isn't always horrible) but in this case they let the puppy go home at 5 weeks instead of 8 weeks. Why? Well, because who wants to clean up after 6-8 barking chewing, pooping and peeing puppies for any longer than you have to. And...would you prefer to make your money today or wait another 3 weeks? Horrible of the breeders to do that. I see it A LOT! Backyard breeders are not setup or prepared to handle puppies for the full 2 months. Some other items of concern: Cleanliness, responsiveness, knowledge, experience, written guarantees, doing sports training, obedience training, or showing the dogs. Long list of happy clients and follow-up with those clients over the years. How deep of an interview they do with potential clients. For instance, not everyone should be buying a Malinois so they shouldn't just give it away to whoever comes asking for one and they shouldn't give any puppy of any breed away to any family that is not capable of responsibly caring for it for the life of the dog. There is so much to cover but as far as genetics go you should be able to meet and greet both parents of the puppies in question and you should be VERY happy with what you see. Not just the looks of the parents but the temperament. How many litters are they pumping out every year? Are they cranking out as many as they can or are they very purposeful and selective in their process. Are they a part of a small network of other breeders so they are bringing in genetics from other proven lines. It also shows they are respected in their industry if they are able to breed outside of their program with other respected breeders. And, when all else fails, what kind of reviews do they have on Google, etc. I think these are good starting points

@@dlea15 my Rottie breeder interviewed ME first!! A long questionnaire I had to complete. Then an extended phone call. Then we met in person. After that I was invited to a show where multiple people who owned her puppies were showing. And I basically got interviewed by all of them😁 Then she checked all my references. I finally got put on the potential owner list. 18 months later I got a call that the next litter she was planning might fit my needs, and was I interested? We spent another hour on the phone as she went through the entire pedigree, and how she saw this breeding would better the Rottweiler world. 4 months later, she picked my pup out of the litter. That pup went on to be an American and Canadian Ch, have obedience titles, be a therapy dog, pass his ATTS test and bring immense joy to my life for 13 yrs. The breeder and I are still in touch 16 yrs later

It would simply be amazing if he could actually train any dog of any breed to actually do anything of substance. He wouldn't even think of training any of the real dogs you listed to even walk on a leash. Let alone train one with aggression issues. He's not a trainer. He's an entertainer. I'm trying to think of a comparable example in a different line of work. It would be like trying to see a face off between Jocko Willink and Tom Cruise on who could better execute a tactical entry or hostage rescue on a terrorist cell. In real life only one of them will get the actual job done the other one wouldn't make it 1 foot inside the door before reality hit them in the face. But for entertainment purposes, Tom Cruise will make it look really exciting and entertain you and make huge money doing it even though he never actually did anything. Pure entertainment vs real life. I don't hate on Zak George for his entertainment skills and KZbin success. I hate on him for supposedly offering "reality dog training" or even pretending for a minute that he's an actual dog trainer. Just like I'm not mad at Tom Cruise for making millions entertaining us. However, he doesn't walk around pretending to be an actual CIA operative just because he played one in Mission Impossible. Lying for a living is maybe different than living a lie.

I’m the director of the Imminent Danger German Shepherd rescue and I can’t tell you how many dogs per month that we are being requested to take in with issues just like this. We have also rescued hundreds of MALINOIS, huskies, labs, Dutches and lots of mixes of the breeds mentioned. Most of these dogs end up being euthanized or dumped at public government run kill shelters who will ultimately euthanize these dogs if a rescue doesn’t step up to assist. Based off the numbers of request for aggressive dogs intake that we get the numbers are astronomical I can only imagine how it is all over the United States we’re talking Thousands of beautiful healthy dogs being destroyed because they’ve been pulled from the litter at five or six weeks of age not learning crucial social skills from their siblings and their mom the additional 2 to 3 weeks that are critical for them being a well socialized dog with other dogs. The dog in this video is clearly not socialized nor is he a happy dog. He is a extremely fearful dog. We see this all the time it’s not only heartbreaking but it disgust me all these backyard breeders who are selling these dogs with no socialization and shoving them out the door ultimately the end for the dog is a short life euthanized because the buyer or adopter cannot handle the dog. Kudos to this gentleman for reaching out to you to get help to save his dogs life. All of those whiny positive reinforcement people only who think that this type of training is not successful or not getting the emails and the text messages and Facebook messages regarding dogs going to be euthanized because of behaviors just like this. I will be happy to send you oodles of messages I get daily for aggressive dogs that The owners want to surrender the dog to me because they can’t handle the dog any longer.

My wife and I have two beautiful dogs from Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue, and I will be the first to tell anyone that these Shepherd breeds are definitely not for the average pet owner. I am blessed to have been a career United States Marine for a good confidence reinforcement when applying for these adoptions and I am well over 200 lbs. Our dogs have come along ways with my daily training but it isn't always easy, and it's those days when it's the most difficult that I must work even harder. It is pure discipline that brings these beautiful dogs to a comfortable trusting relationship with family, friends, and approved strangers. It practically brings me to tears to see the countless adoption posts on Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue Facebook page. If I had enough resources I would request to adopt every darn one. These dogs are so gorgeous and they don't deserve this horrific neglect and bad treatment.

Beautiful Dog, with a far better attitude. Can you share any video of how to stop puppies from ply biting? My 4 month German Shepard is playful not realizing she sinks those teeth into everyone including the kids. The kids are scared of her. I tried some of your tips on dominance and reward but she keeps doing.

My husband and I just got ourselves what we had thought a Shepard mix approximately 1 yr old all black. He had been a stray is what we were told and had gotten him from the humane society where we are. We now know he is a malinois or malinois mix. We are currently having an issue with him trying to be dominant or aggressive to other dogs. Nothing towards humans. We'd like to train him but are unsure of how to begin the training ourselves. He can sit, lay down, and shake with both paws. We have a German Shepard that is the only dog that he can't dominate, yet. Give us pointers on how to begin to stop this.

Malinois are very intelligent doggos and highly need to be worked and exercized. Giving them alot of training is essential and rewarding positive behaviors. The problems that i always see in most dog owners that i meet and know. They always want to treat their dogs as if they are human children or babies. 😂😂😂 Lazy dog owners who don't care to learn how to do the work to train their dogs. Chihuahua owners to Pit bull owners I've seen it all.

A dog is a predator, and a horse is a prey. So very different instincts. Hobbling a horse was often used when travelling so that the horse could eat grass but not walk too far off. The horse was always trained to use them so that they would not panic and hurt themselves when they wore hobbles. A sound horse was often the difference between survival or death for the traveller. I am not sure what hunny sacking is?

Viewers should not use these methods as they require high skill and experience. If You try to use them, You can get seriously bit if You lack the timing and the skill. Same as when training dangerous horses. Do not try this at home..

He's doing something referred to as "flooding" it speeds up the process although it doesn't build a huge bond, that's ok in this case though, he's just making sure he can handle the dog and the dog won't lash out, desensitization can take literal months in a normal environment, this man has three weeks to turn this around, he doesn't have the timeframe for that, that being said, the dog will likely calm down after he gets a few days in on a regular schedule watching other dogs as well.

@@bw040690 I don't know about the memory part, my Husky remembers the breeder he came from, remembered him right away when we bumped into the guy on a walk an d he hadn't seen him since being young pup. He also remembers the thermometer at the vet, now he doesn't even need to see it, if the vet says that word he immediately turns around and starts pawing at the door to get out.

What is the correction? Either its blurred or the screen goes black ..... Ive already begun using a prong collar for the walks and i man the change is night and day UNTIL a child, bike, or othr dog walks past and she goes bizzerk including biting me. So if anyone knows how he corrects that please tell me😩

I could be wrong but the dogs tail was constantly tucked for the first 5 minutes is the original owner abusing it or something he seemed afraid of that man. But the fear could only be caused by experience or is their something else that could cause that?… but I’m not a dog behaviorist so I could only wonder …

Ducked tail is a general expression of fear. A bit like the whale-eyes. Animals are highly emotional by nature, so they'll experience and express those emotions on a big scale. Difference is that if the trigger is gone, they can instantly shake it off and feel joy. Humans are screwed because we ruminate, even though the trigger is long gone

Looks like the breeder sold it as 8 weeks old, and the vet told the owner he was about 5 weeks when he got him. That is 3 very important weeks with socializing and discipline from mom and siblings lost. Hard to get those weeks back, so that could be the reason for his flight-fight behaviour. He switches between them very fast and lacks self control. So discipline is the start to teach this self control. It’s like we tell our kids: actions have consequences. Listen to me, and I will keep You safe.
