Hey Tom I’m from Colorado and I have to say these videos saved my dogs life, she was an extremely reactive and aggressive golden retriever pit mix, she was attacking anything that moved esp other dogs, after 6 months of training she’s almost entirely controllable now. She’s still a bit hyper but that’s just her personality. We went from her on the brink of being taken away and euthanized to more well trained than most dogs I know all thanks to you!!

What did the training include? I am in desperate need of help. My 5 and a half month old Saint Bernard acts just like this dog in the video, towards every single person except my bf and I. I can’t have anyone over to the house or take my dog anywhere. He knows basic obedience. He was in puppy classes when he was younger. He has always been very shy but at about the 3 and a half - 4 month mark it started changing to aggression and it’s gradually getting worse. He’s tried to bite 2 strangers twice now.

I’ve watched you since before I had a dog, but started watching even more once my dog became reactive. He was attacked twice, on two separate occasions and both attacks have left him reactive to all dogs and some people. I’m a small, 4’11”, young woman with a nearly 100lb dog and it’s scary to have people think he’s purely aggressive simply because of his size and them not knowing why he is reactive. Watching your videos gives me hope that with time and effort, he will get better and we can have the same experience we used to on walks, and in our everyday life.

Hey Tom, I think it would be really cool to see a video of a day-in-the-life of dog training. Something showing your dogs daily routine how often are you training a dog and what the training session layout looks like (do you practice one command so many times then move to the next, how often do you take your dog out in public and what commands/exercises do you do to build confidence in the public setting) I really wanna see a video going over a training session structure so I can learn how to ramp up my training and ensure that my dog is getting a great training experience. 😊 You videos are so helpful and I really love the content!

The local pet store won’t sell prong collars because they are “bad for the dog”. What I notice in these videos is that after even a very short session the dogs are calmer, happier and safer. I simply don’t see a downside at all and a huge upside. I also notice many times when Tom is handling a reactive dog at the end of the session the dog starts licking him or putting its paw in his hand. No way a fearful dog would do that. I have seen it multiple times. These dogs look grateful that someone is finally giving them direction. In most cases, like this one, the owners just didn’t know how to handle a strong high energy highly intelligent dog. It’s like buying a Ferrari. You need to know what you are doing or you will end up in the ditch.

Prong collars ARE BAD if people don'tuse them properly! I see people who let their dog pull them down the road on a prong collar. This is not ok (like driving with the parking brake on) and then they give the tool a bad name. Rather then owning it is their behaviour. Prong collars/ecollars Are GOOD when used with good timing and were the RELEASE is activly used to reward the dog. The problem as I see it is that pet owners and society in general have an avertion to holding to clear boundryies. People want live teddy bars / fur babies and forget that kids don't get to do whatever they want. Most good kids have boundaries (no bullining, No hitting, No running on the hyway, No stealing ....) its is part of learning to be part of the comunity.

I don’t blame the pet store owner. It’s the owner/handler who needs to be trained in its proper use. Too many times owners end up injuring a dog using a prong collar. Buy a prong collar only after consultation with a certified trainer.

@@TASIAawful1 I just not 15 minutes ago was talking to a lady who had a beautiful Shepard on a leash, with a muzzle on who was growling and barking like mad. I asked her a couple of questions about him and she said to me, ‘ why do you think he turned out this way’. I just said they can take a lot of training and can be hard if you don’t invest a lot of time with him. He was such a beautiful puppy, sad to see. They didn’t do any training at all.

I had a client the other day who said she’s having issues with her dog playing keep away. I asked how her basic obedience is, and she said “so-so”. So I told her basically what you told the client about getting off the bed. If your dog doesn’t sit when you tell them to, what makes you think they’ll give up their treasure? She understood that very well

It is truly heartbreaking to see a dog with so much potential live his life with such uncertainty/anxiety any time we leave the house. The irony of it all is I have worked with animals and have been in the Veterinary field for 15+ years. This is an issue that is definitely beyond my level of expertise. Behavior/training is so very important and so often ignored and forgotten about. You are truly amazing for all that you do, thank you!

From all the videos I watched, I would say he would change the tools you’re using. So if you are using a slip collar and thats how the dog reacts to the corrections, then try a prong collar. If not the prong, then the e-collar. As he would say “Change the stimulus”. There’s a great video with two 🐩poodles, one dog did great with a slip lead, the other got frustrated with the slip lead, so he tried the prong collar, and it did the job.

It's troubling to see that people don't understand that their is a Ying and yang with training. The Ying being a positive reinforcement and yang being a consequence and follow through. Too many people hear consequence and think, you're going to hurt them, but in reality you are settling boundaries. When setting the correction or boundary, you absolutely must follow through, otherwise the correction is fallen on deaf ears. Positive reinforcement only works if their are positive consequences that are available. Well done Tom, 👏 an outstanding job yet again. I especially enjoyed when you implied, mean what you say, and say what you mean.

My husband and I retired early and are at home all day, good for Lexi! I have been blessed with her, she is the sweetest natured dog who loves kids and people and just wants to play with other dogs. Not sure she would have turned out as well if I hadn't followed your rules of discipline and reward, she's 7 months now and just loves to learn new things, hoping I'm getting it right 😅 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤

I'm from Romania. I want to buy a Belgian Malinois and after initial impression it took me 3 weeks of just watching random trainings on KZbin to decide if I'm prepared to get one. I'll take one next weekend, hope for the best. Your videos really do help

Loved the reaction to the first correction. You have made such a difference in my training with my 2 year old Yorkie. She had so much reactivity but we make progress everyday! Thanks

Thank you. I appreciate a trainer who understands the 4 quadrants of dog training. A cookie and love doesn’t necessarily fix everything

I live in the Southern Cape South Africa, I am 71! I Inherited A 9 month GSD. His behavior was very similar to Dante, I now have a prong collar and he has improved hugely, I take him to training which he loves but still behaves badly around other dogs.... but were working on it, your videos have helped me a lot.

Interesting to see how they get so focused on correction they don't praise for the subsequent good behavior. Good thing the trainer is adding it 🥰

I’m Candace from Georgia! I have a German Shepherd named Georgia who’s going to be 5 in January. She’s the dog who taught me it all years ago and I couldn’t be more greatful for her. I just honestly love watching dog training as I feel like there something to always learn and improve myself. I also personally would love to get into dog training. I do help my friends with certain training but of corse I am not a professional and do walk around as if I am. However if I can educate someone on what they may not know as it can help! I also can’t forget about my rescue Boboskie who was dumped and the most well behaved stray dog I have met! They only thing we had to work on was resource guarding with food (don’t blame him as he had to fight for food after being dumped) but was an easy fix with hand feeding meals with a few simple obedience he didn’t know.

I am from Italy and absolutely LOVE your channel. This month I am looking after two dogs of an old man who cannot come back home because he's recently broken his femur on holiday. These dogs are relatively friendly to me, but they have never had a structured relationship with a human being. These videos help me understand a little bit more about what goes on in their minds and develop a healthier relationship with me. Thank you!

I just gotta say. This KZbin channel is my absolute favorite! I’ve been watching your channel since I got my GSD puppy at 12wks old and he is now 1 yr old! Every stage of his progression has been different and you’ve given such good training advice through all of his stages! I’m so grateful for the training being so different in every video because it teaches me something new and how to approach things differently every time! My boy was such a saint when he was little and so easy to train but as he’s gotten older I’ve had to adjust our relationship for his needs as an older male dog and your videos are my go to! I wouldn’t have known what I, as his handler, needed to change or how to correct unwanted behavior without you! So thank you!

Best explanation ever for the prong collar. I think this collar is a total game-changer if you know how to use it.
