We just got a dog from a shelter, he's 1 years old and a mix but most say he has some German shepherd. Anyway, starting to leash train him because he is very reactive(wanting to play with everything and everyone). Extremely smart. I Wish I had the means to join the club but I'm so happy you have free videos! Thank you!! He doesn't seem to be affected by the slip leash which makes it difficult.

I have two dogs who are reactive. They always want to meet all the other dogs. One of them remembers each and every house that has a dog and he always barks as we walk by. I'm taking notes and will try all of this with them. Thank you so much for this video.

Short durations, gradually lengthening with breaks and rewards. You got it. I’d maybe work on long lead first or “watch me” or anything to get good engagement if needed, I like to use watch me for eye contact personally.

If you don't think its possible it won't be. They read your emotions if you aren't believing you can they won't follow your lead.

@@beachlife4346 I raised and trained a Shepherd Doberman and 90 lb Pit mixed who walked off leash. This guy is totally different from them and their mind set. I think I have to get reactiveness under control first. He has it super bad!!

My dog is a perfect student in a class setting - amongst even dozens of other dogs. In the real world - such as if your dog lunged at the fence, or was acting up on his leash, or approached my dog (you can't control other people), it would be a totally different. Since he already knows no leash (prong, or otherwise) can dissuade him (that one moment of discomfort isn't even felt) - his reaction is to charge the dog - knowing I can't stop him - since he is as large and stronger than me.

I love your videos, Tom! I'm curious, my dog has cerebellar hypoplasia and is so excitable when meeting new dogs to the point of irritating the other dog, would I go about using this training the same way? He can't sit on command because of his condition.

The hermspenger collar was a game changer for all of my dogs. They all responded differently in their own time, but they make me look like i know what I'm doing because my dogs are usually very responsive while wearing them😂. All i dogs was stop and stand in front of my dog and the other dog on the trail, every time. I made him sit, paired with leave it, has made him non reactive to other dogs or people now and we don't usually have to stop anymore. I have 3 dogs that i walk at the same time... the one who wants to pull towards the distraction, the one who lays down and won't move because she's scared, and a teenager who does whatever she can get away with. So stopping was just the only way i could implement any training.

I watch most of your videos and I never see you work with smaller dogs. The training looks very easy when the dogs head is up by your waist. It is extremely hard bending down and holding food in front of my dog or giving many treats for a "good job". What is your training system with a smaller dog?

Does anybody know if the prong collars with the slip chain work better than the ones with the buckle closing? I am looking to buy a Herm Sprenger but there are so many to choose from
@sarahm36149 күн бұрын
It's barking dogs, cussing her out, that causes the reactivity. The quiet , calm dogs are not a problem.

Border collies are the hardest dog to maintain their attention span, all they are thinking about is how much they want to be hyper active. They want to be on speed dial all the time. Hard as heck to calm down . Seems their setting is “on or off.”
