This dog behaves EXACTLY like mine. She’s an utter angel around people, but the second another dog appears, it’s almost like she turns into a shark and I’ve got seconds to react before she tries to maul/kill. This is honest to god the most relieving thing I’ve ever seen since adopting her. I can’t tell you how much I needed both the information in this video and the situation. In one of your other videos you had mentioned that people say you talk too much, and I feel like that's a horrible thing to say. You don't just jump into dog training and say look here's your dog do this. You analyze and explain in detail what the dog is doing and what the owner needs to do and how they need to work together to change the behavior. I've learned so much from watching your videos just in working with my own dogs and it's been incredibly helpful. So please keep up the good work!

I guess it depends on how the clients learn. For example, I fall asleep in lectures, but make it a lab class and I'm fully engaged.
@dolledupyoongi4 жыл бұрын
@@aaronjohnmaughan The problem is that in the dog training world, you don't always have the chance to learn purely by watching or doing. If I handed someone who had never seen a prong collar before a Herm Sprenger, I can't trust that they have any idea what to do with it. If they see someone else pop the leash on one, do they know why the handler does that or when? I understand the complaint that "he talks too much" as sometimes it drags on, but the way he explains things leaves little room for misunderstanding what he is saying. I'd rather know more than less. I learn more by reading and experiencing things but he said it well enough for me to understand 🙂

Wow Tom I've been working with dogs for a long time and you're very no-nonsense, logical and rational when you explain this to people. I have a dog who is reactive and its a puppy-behavior that I am trying to break before he's too old. I recognize this video is a bit older but its very helpful. I work at a daycare and I deeply understand dog behavior but I have never had to use an e-collar. My dog is the third to my pack and he is certainly reactive. It's something I have not dealt with, with my breed specifically. I have been using the e collar more and more and your videos help me know that what I'm doing is the right path for him.

I am fostering a German Shepard mix. She was found in the desert. She didn't know any commands and I taught her sit, paw, and down with the clicker very easily. I have 3 other dogs. Have never been aggressive with them. Not even my Yorkie who is deeply annoyed with her. However, when we're on a leash outside she turns into Cujo at the sight of other dogs. No dogs? She's great, jogs with me. Is terrified of cars. Any who, I'm determined to correct it or she'll never stand a chance at getting adopted. She has deep anxiety issues that I've been able to work with. I'm sure its the breed and being alone for over 4 months. She looks very intimidating and it's embarrassing in public when she goes buzerk. I just ordered an e collar. This video was great! Ive been watching a lot of your videos on e collar usage. This one in particular hit home. Thx!!

I would love to see a follow up with this dog a little while later presented with new dogs and people to see how much hes generalising and proofing stuff. This was very interesting and normally I would never advocate for using aversives with with a dog who's growling so I feel very torn. On the one hand I've always tried to avoid punishing out the warning system because a growl is the dog making an effort to communicate he wants space without using aggression. On the other hand, the dog's issue is so severe and it sounds like the owners are about to give up trying to train him so if you can flood and just teach him complete avoidance of stuff hes to be reactive to I can understand how That could save the dog's life even though it's not ideal and then overtime could bounce back from that flooding/ punishment to choose to avoid reactivity but not in a super aversive way. Anyways, this was really interesting.

5 years later and people are still watching and learning! Question... what level do you have the e collar set to? Just a low buzz? Or higher for correction? And does it depend on each dogs situation for how high you have it, or is it generally the same level across the board?

Great video. We are at that point with our dog, whose about 3 times bigger than this dog in the vid (Anatolian Shepard mix). He’s aggressive towards most dogs and hard to walk because of it. I’ve even had to do P.T. on my shoulder from his puppy pulling on the leash phase. Trainers have said he seems generally anxious (doesn’t like most other dogs and men). He’s been in a prong collar but it’s barely helping now. Like he can’t stop himself from lunging. We will try an e-collar as our last attempt. He’s super calm with us at home. Not aggressive to us.

My dog is very much like Doodle. A previous trainer said that when Rumple wants to go over to an animal/person/car/bike/whatever object it is, and then when I try to correct him, he turns around and jumps/tries to bite me. Their response was to teach my dog that I am the "alpha" through practices at home, and to just body block while he is muzzled on walks. Needless to say, two years later, it didn't work. In fact, I think it is worse than when I had first started: he does it more frequently and has grown quite a bit since we first met the trainer.

@kazzelina65113 жыл бұрын
My dog exactly, a 2nd-hand rescue. She goes into total prey drive toward anything that moves. Barking, lunging, snarling. Cars, dogs, bikes, sliding glass doors. It's like she can't check herself, she enters a different state of mind. The prong collar makes her yelp but she keeps on driving forward with hostility. Same with the top level on the e-collar. She either totally ignores the stim, or redirects her aggression towards ME. Even without such distractions, she has no respect for my leadership. If I have treats, she can perform about 20 different commands, no hesitation (she's very smart, and learns quickly). But no treats, and I'm invisible to her. Not sure anything is going to work at this point, and it's not safe to keep a dog in this condition. Best alternative may be to put her down.

I have two dogs that used to be great and super well trained but where attacked by other dogs and are becoming aggressive due to fear, almost like PTSD. Both get 2-3 hours of structured exercise a day + snuff mats and lick pads for stimulation. I need help and honestly don’t know where to start. It isn’t regular and consistent behavior but sporadic.

Super interesting video! You really understand what a dog like Doodle needs. The E-collar is such a perfect tool for him! And oh man your new trainee Mal is such a sweet sissy boy haha, I adore his personality.

I adopted a 1.5 year old male Pit rescue from another state. They told me he was only a bit dog aggressive. I knew I could work with that. HOWEVER "Ginger's Pet Rescue" did not and I hear DOES not properly vet their dogs. I found the dog to be extremely fearful of most things and new people. I sent him to a trainer and it helped, yet he still is fearful which turns into aggression very quickly. Anyone who has been around him thinks he also has vision issues. He tries to attack bags, tree stumps etc. I think he needs glasses. I use a prong collar which is my first time ever needing one with any of the Pits I've had. It helps a lot, yet I need another tool. I was considering an e-collar yet I read you can't use on an aggressive dog (per the companies insert) What in the heck? So glad I was able to find that this amazing guy, along with Cesar Millan says you can. I wish this trainer were closer to me. I love reading all the comments. Thank you for all you do.

My dog when he met my son’s dog didn’t growl or anything he just attacked! He is Plott hound. I got him from shelter and he is sweet and lazy till he gets lose then he runs and runs! I am scared he will get lose and eat my neighbor dog who is little. I also will be babysitting my grandbaby soon. I need advice for how to read this dog. I don’t want to take him back. But honestly I need to teach him not to escape the fence, and if he meets a new small dog, it isn’t prey. I know it must be instinct so how to deal with that? I walk him, I love him, he gets along well with my dog who is small. I need to make sure he won’t hurt the grand baby if she starts crawling or if I lay her on the couch, that type of thing. I have a husband who is ill, so it’s hard for him to do much to help. Any one give me suggestions? I have e colar I use on vibrate to train him to come to me. So far that is how far we have come. My son taught him to sit and give his paw. He is smart. He is trainable but once instinct grabs idk. The dog he attack had just got back from dog groomers maybe his perfume? Or his breath smells bad. Maybe he smelt that and that raw breath made him think of prey? I don’t know.

My dog will bite anybody but me . He doesent like anybody but me. and he gives no rattlesnake alert he will attack and has no body language of any kind to indicate nervousness or anything. I cant even correct him because the only way to address it would involve having another person around him and for obvious reasons nobody can be around him. Any suggestions on how to deal with him he has accedently got out recently and bit a neighbor but it wasent untill the neighbor came to my door to let me know that marty bit him thank got it was not a bad bite.

Muzzle it, and start socialisation. Use Corrective tools before or when shes about to attack.
