I can't believe that the French fell for that port start strategy after watching boat after boat get rolled by the Brits on the same maneuver. Ineos has proven quick and they had and extra two knots at the start. He also tacked out of a strong advantage on starboard on the first leg when he was gaining back his loss... and had to tack the wrong way around the pin. He lost 600 metres. All downhill from there. Quentin is usually smarter than that.

Baffling start strategy by the French - they sealed their doom right there. What a brutal format. They have invested over $50,000,000 and employed 120 people, and they only get 8 competitive races. That's over $6,000,000 per race! Not too enticing for future sponsors... Still, it's a foundation for future campaigns. They'll doubtless be back.

Nah, it’s all about tuning with these things. The crew as well as the boat, her rig and her foils. Starting tactics are vital, too, because it’s difficult to get past a boat, once she’s clear ahead.
