So glad you were finally able to visit such an amazing place. The coastal redwoods are so very dear to me as they served as my classroom for 26 wonderful years. So fun to see the two of you walk amongst the gentle giants. One of my favorite facts to share with folks is that while they can grow nearly 300+ feet tall their roots only go down 6-12 feet. One would assume they would then easily fall over due to the obvious imbalance. However, while they don't grow deep down they spread out quite wide and intertwine their roots with other trees and thus support each other. As should we all :) Thanks for sharing and much love

Hey Jymn, that is such an amazing story regarding their roots. I too have used it on a few occasions as a sermon illustration regarding the strength of unity!

Glad you finally got to explore it this time around! I know timed entrances can be controversial, but with how packed some of these places can get, it does make for a less stressful experience. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures this year.

I was there last September with my nephew. We walked part of the fern creek trail starting at bridge 4. We saw so many seniors, disabled and families with young children in Muir Woods, which I think makes this park special, accessible to everyone. We also went to Ft. Point NHS, mainly due to your video back in 2017. I didn't know about Ft. Point until I viewed it.

Randy, believe it or not, when I came here around 40 years ago, there was no need for reservations, maybe because it was before the advent of smartphones and their cameras, whereby a picture can be instantly sent to 50 of your closest friends. Still a beautiful place to be, especially if you can't be way up in northern CA. Thank the Lord for a man like John Muir, who was able to convince the powers that be at the time to save this land, as well as many others around this country via the National Park system, and the general conservation mindset. It makes me wonder how many national park worthy places around the world were destroyed via a myriad of methods in the majority of the world which have been heavily settled for hundreds/thousands of years. It almost happened here.

Great job! I live nearby; so, I've been to Muir Woods at least 20 times. Prior to the pandemic, I noticed that uptick in the number of people visiting. In the past, we could drive right up to the entrance. Now, you have to make your parking reservation. Even with the reservations, it's still much more crowded than it was when I was just starting college. Back then, you could park near the entrance and always find a spot. You'd only see a handful of people on the trails. Still, even with more people, it's worth the trip! The trees are beautiful!

Looks like a beautiful park and worthy addition to the national park system. Glad you were able to experience this park and make up for your previous attempt. I haven’t made it to coastal CA yet. It’s high on the list but just hasn’t been in the cards. There was a chance maybe this year but didn’t win any of the coveted permits this year.

I went to Muir woods this last end of July 2023, escaping the heat where I live, enjoyed the nice cool weather of the CA coast. Muir Woods is truly refreshing from visiting San Francisco CA. Perhaps a video of Point Reyes next, since it is so close to Muir Woods. Coastal trip along CA in the summer it a great adventure to do. The problem I ran into was no room for camping sites for last minute bookings for my trip. Randy and Julie what a spectacular couple. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a56rpYGdgbWcopY John Muir Woods N.M. - No Parking

Looks gorgeous but I’m confused because you say there’s crowds yet there’s no one in your scenes. Why get away from crowds when there appears to be none?
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 7 ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely crowds at Muir Woods as it is just outside of SF. When we went in 2017 (before the parking permits) we never got in. Fair question.. usually when I film I try to get the shots without people being around to show more nature and trouble people less who feel uncomfortable of being on video.
